Chapter 576 Perhaps Spider-Man Has No Daily Life
After finishing his call with Lightning, Peter, now invisible, arrived at the appropriate location, then slipped into a public restroom, found a stall, deactivated his invisibility, and put away his anti-Venom suit.
There's no other way; compared to the traffic in New York, it's much easier to get around by swinging on spider webs.
Jonah Jameson's voice was still playing on the radio, but this time, he didn't insult Spider-Man or anyone else. Even more unusually, Jonah didn't comment on any social news, but instead introduced something else entirely.
"I am very pleased to announce that NASA will be conducting a crewed space mission at the end of this month. Of course, this is not a very big deal for our society, but it is the first time in human history that a spacecraft has been sent to explore Earth's orbit! We will launch the spacecraft to an unprecedented distance!"
At this point, Peter even managed a rare, slightly shy smile from Jonah: "I am very honored to announce that my son, John Jonah Jameson III, will be one of the three astronauts on this mission. I must admit that I am reporting this news with pride and personal motives, but shouldn't a father feel honored for his child's outstanding growth and achievements?"
"All I remember is that your son turned into a werewolf after going to space, Jonah. Thank goodness for the Spider-Sense to be able to foresee the future now, otherwise I'd have to come up with a better reason for the Avengers."
Peter doesn't have many memories of JJJ's son. The most memorable thing is that his son turned into a werewolf after going to space. So Peter sent a message to the Avengers, hoping they could persuade NASA to abandon the launch mission and instead send an unmanned spacecraft to investigate the mission site.
After finishing this trivial matter, Peter went to the coffee shop where he had arranged to meet Cindy. He checked and found that Cindy hadn't arrived yet, so he sat down first, ordered coffee for himself and Cindy, and then started scrolling through his phone while waiting for Cindy.
Then, he came across a news article about Osborn Technologies' stock price plummeting.
The mastermind behind all this was Otto Octavia. As Osborn's lifelong enemy, Otto left Norman a great gift before his death—information involving a large amount of dirt on Osborn Technologies, most of which was related to the illegal appropriation and preemptive registration of patents.
In the less than 48 hours he had been in control of New York, Otto devoted all his free time to harassing Norman. The result was that, although Otto was certainly dead, he caused Osborn Technologies enormous trouble.
To be fair, Norman Osborn's memories of the past month are remarkably normal... Although he was beaten up by Otto and hung on Avengers Tower for a day, based on everything he experienced, he believed he was quickly rescued by Spider-Man and taken home.
Norman then spent the next month dealing with company matters, the most direct way being to smear Otto, claiming that information spread by a terrorist and criminal was not trustworthy. However, this did not seem to stop Osborne Technologies' market value from shrinking—though it did not appear to be bankrupt.
As Peter continued scrolling through the news, he heard hurried footsteps. Looking up, he saw Cindy in a black dress, who slowed her pace apologetically: "Sorry I'm late..."
"No, no, absolutely not. I just have a habit of arriving early for everything."
Peter quickly interrupted Cindy. He had roughly guessed her thoughts and actions; after sensing that Peter had probably arrived at the location, she had likely rushed over. Actually, it wasn't necessary. As Peter himself said, he was used to leaving early to wait for others, and even before he gained his spider abilities, he would arrive an hour or two early for middle school activities to avoid traffic jams.
If that situation were to actually occur, it would be even more awkward.
The two sat down together, and the waiter, quite perceptively, brought them coffee and snacks at that moment. After the waiter left, Peter opened his mouth, and then, quite naturally, he found himself unable to find a topic to talk about. Cindy seemed to feel the same way.
After holding it in for a while, Peter's first question was: "Um, how's S.H.I.E.L.D. lately?"
Well, Peter Parker, you've got some serious skills, asking S.H.I.E.L.D. the first question on our date. Hopefully, Cindy won't turn around and ask me how things are going with the Avengers. Peter glanced around, and after confirming the distance to the other guests, he breathed a sigh of relief.
"Fortunately, the amount of training has decreased recently, and the number of missions... it seems like I haven't had any missions since I joined S.H.I.E.L.D."
Cindy stirred her coffee with latte art as she spoke, her task seemingly limited to watching Spider-Man, nothing more. She paused before asking a question in return.
"Do you have any other plans for summer vacation? If you don't have anything to do these next couple of days, we could actually go to—"
Before the two could exchange more than a few words, a violent commotion erupted outside. Peter's spider-sense, though silent, helped him anticipate what would happen in the next few seconds: a large truck roared across the road, followed by several police cars in a high-speed chase.
No, that's not right. They could already hear faint sirens in the distance. Peter instinctively stood up, then looked at Cindy somewhat awkwardly and gave an embarrassed smile.
"I guess if we leave now, we'll probably have to pay the money first, or we'll have to wait for that big truck to come crashing down on us."
"You wouldn't choose that."
Peter smiled helplessly, hurriedly called the waiter to pay the bill, and then rushed out of the coffee shop. Cindy followed behind him. As soon as they stepped outside, they could see the large black truck rushing towards them in the distance.
“This really is a perfect date for Spider-Man… what you'd call Parker-style luck.” Peter looked at Cindy, the Spider-Man agent whose date had been interrupted was undoubtedly seething with anger, ready to vent at any moment.
However, she held back and looked at Peter first.
“Okay, it looks like our date is going to change a bit.” Peter said, glancing around as he looked for a place to change into his anti-Venom suit—the advantage of the symbiote suit was that he never needed to find a phone booth to change.
There probably weren't that many phone booths in New York in 2013 that offered people red and blue uniforms.
As he thought this, he glanced at the large truck in the distance and asked Cindy with a smile, "Want to come along?"
