Chapter 405 Arrival in Taranto
Chapter 405 Arrival in Taranto
As the cargo ship from Valencia slowly sailed toward Naples, Peter and his group quietly left. Instead of heading to Naples, they traveled directly to Taranto, a small town in southeastern Italy, aboard a Wildfighting Group transport plane.
Taranto is a very inconspicuous small city. This is partly because the economy in the south of Italy is generally worse than in the north, so southern towns tend to look more dilapidated. It's also because Taranto is indeed quite small; as the regional capital and an important port on the Adriatic Sea, its population is only 20.
The city is perhaps best known for the Taranto raid in 1940, in which the British Navy stormed the port of Taranto and seized control of the Mediterranean. Apart from that, the small city has almost nothing else to boast about.
"I'm wondering if the person who helped my father could be Mrs. Spider?"
After Peter asked the question, Cindy tilted her head, because she had never actually met Mrs. Spider, only heard of her. So even if Peter told her about it, she didn't know how to answer.
As for Felicia, the mangy cat appears to be breathing on the silver sable.
She didn't quite understand why this operation needed to include these "armed personnel." Obviously, the larger the target, the higher the risk of exposure. So she glared at Sylvia, who was dressed in combat gear, with a rather unfriendly expression. Sylvia, of course, didn't care about her gaze at all, and even almost laughed.
As for Peter… Peter didn’t actually mind Sylvia coming. In fact, he knew very well that Nick Fury wanted to use the fact that Peter Parker was Richard Parker’s son to attract Hydra’s attention. As long as Peter went to look for his father’s traces, Hydra would definitely find out.
As for who Nick Fury actually sent out to investigate, and where they went, Peter didn't care much about that.
“We’re almost at Taranto. I don’t know what you’re looking for, and I won’t interfere with your plans. But since Fury asked me to stay with you, I’ll be there for you no matter what you’re doing. Just call me if you need anything.”
As Sylvia spoke, she directed the transport plane to land on the outskirts of Taranto, then tossed out a communicator. Peter caught the communicator and stepped off the plane first, then turned to look at it and said, "I bet she's watching us from not far away."
"Yeah, just like Nick Fury's lackeys."
Felicia spoke with a hint of displeasure, but the truth was that everyone shared the same sentiment: nobody liked Nick Fury. Only after the transport plane took off without any intention of staying did she ask Peter the question she hadn't asked before.
"Could it be that your parents died for the same reason as my father? In reality, my father didn't die from the super soldier serum, but rather because he discovered some more terrifying secret?"
I think the mere fact that Walter Hardy discovered Hydra still existed was enough to make Hydra take action. Peter didn't say this, but just nodded absentmindedly, then took out the notebook and wrote down what Fury had told him about where his parents lived when they arrived in Taranto.
It was just an ordinary hotel, nothing special. He breathed a sigh of relief and began searching for the hotel. As it turned out, finding it in a small town wasn't difficult. Peter quickly found the hotel's location on his phone and went inside.
The hotel receptionist was an elderly woman. Peter suddenly felt that he might actually be able to learn something about the past from her, so he went to the front desk. When the old woman saw the three young men approaching, she asked, "How many rooms would you like to book?"
“I’d like to ask you something, Grandma. Do you remember a couple named Parker who booked a room here a few years ago?” Peter added, worried that the old lady might not remember, “They came here looking for the local Taranto tarantula.” “Oh, yes, I remember. A scientist couple came looking for spiders. I even warned them to be careful of spider diseases, but they just laughed and said it wasn’t true.”
The old woman stared at Peter for a while, then considered his age: "You're their child, aren't you? Didn't they tell you anything about this?"
“They passed away a few years ago. I’m here to see one of their friends, who supposedly helped find the right spider. Do you know who that is?”
The old lady muttered a couple of things. She might recognize some of the more memorable guests, but otherwise, she really didn't know anything. So, Peter booked three rooms, somewhat disappointed.
Following the normal line of thought, the next step should be to do what his parents did: search for the Taranto Spider, inquire about it from the locals, and perhaps make contact with that person. However, S.H.I.E.L.D. has certainly tried this method before, and Peter isn't sure if he can make any breakthroughs.
And perhaps... Hydra has also been here.

"The situation was similar when we came to Italy last time!"
On a mountain road in southern Italy, two motorcycles were speeding along. The captain, riding his beloved Harley, asked Logan, "Do you remember?"
"Not at all."
Logan squinted, feeling the wind pressure from the high-speed journey. If it weren't for the captain, he wouldn't have known that his full name was "James Logan Howlett," that the name on his soldier's dog tag was just his middle name, or that he, like his old rival Sabretooth, had survived from World War II or even earlier.
But when Logan heard the captain tell their stories from World War II, he couldn't help but immerse himself in them. He had a feeling that the captain was talking about his own experiences, not those of others.
"Where is that place we're going to? Have we been there before?"
"No, we've never been to Taranto. Hydra doesn't have any base there. We fought our way north, and we were fighting Hydra in Italy until Normandy."
Captain America was riding his motorcycle when a message came through his earpiece. He then spoke to Logan: "Furry said Spider-Man is in Taranto. He told us not to reveal our identities and to avoid being discovered by the enemy."
"uh-huh?"
The Skrulls in this book are not refugees, but rather belong to their own Skrull Empire, which is currently at war with the Kree. Therefore, Nick Fury's wife is not a Skrull either.
