Chapter 357 Capturing the Evil Spirit
Chapter 357 Capturing the Evil Spirit
As always, New York City was brightly lit at night. Peter arrived outside Ned's apartment, intending to climb in through the window to scout the situation, hoping to catch him before he could put on his gear.
"Let me scan. There's a pumpkin bomb planted in the window. It will detonate as soon as I open the window."
Peter shrugged. This level of trap had no effect on the spider senses. He controlled the spider robot to disarm the pumpkin bomb. Thanks to Osborn's technical support, he was able to directly deactivate the pumpkin bomb's fuse.
"All done. Let's check again. Nothing's wrong. Perfect."
Peter ran into Ned's house as he spoke, scanning the equipment. He disarmed all the pumpkin bombs in the closet, then used the program he had left behind to hack Ned's glider and exoskeleton armor. Finally—
"Give me something DC-style, buddy."
Venom immediately donned an all-black suit, while Peter sat quietly, waiting for Ned to return home.
After a busy day, Ned Lids returned home, feeling as if he had forgotten something, yet also as if he hadn't. He had been in very poor condition for the past two days, feeling dazed, to the point that even Jonah Jameson thought he needed a rest.
Should I really ask for leave?
Ned anxiously opened his bedroom door, but before he could turn on the light, he heard a low, hoarse voice ask him, "Ned Lids, do you know what you've done?"
Me? What did I do?
Ned was extremely flustered and began to wonder if he had offended someone, while the hushed voice continued to press him: "You went to that restaurant and found some pieces on the floor, didn't you?"
In an instant, Ned felt as if he had been electrocuted, and he suddenly realized what he had forgotten.
He remembered, he wasn't a journalist named Ned Lids, he was...
"Calm down, Ned."
A sharp shout interrupted his inner turmoil, and Ned, regaining his composure, began to speak with a look of shock.
"You...you are...you are Batman?!"
"No! I'm Spider-Man!"
Are you not cosplaying Batman?
I'm cosplaying Batman, but I'm actually Spider-Man.
"Where did you get all this equipment? Especially the bomb that looks like the one used to create the tourist bombing?!"
"me……"
Ned was overwhelmed with thoughts. Veins began to bulge beneath his skin, and his complexion gradually turned gray. Peter immediately noticed this and grabbed his arm: "Did someone inject you with the serum? Or did you inject yourself?"
"I am! The demon!"
With his skin completely grayed, Ned strained to throw Spider-Man against the wall, then flew backward himself, crashing into the wall and getting stuck in Spider-Man's web. "Spider-Man, I'm going to..."
“Listen, Ned, you are not the real evil spirit. Someone has framed you, falsely accused you, and indoctrinated you with the wrong ideas. You must fight back and prove that you are not their puppet. Tell me, what did you see? Who is the real evil spirit?”
Ned's eyes flickered, as if he remembered something, but then his eyes became panicked.
Even if the other party didn't say anything, Peter knew he was in trouble because his spider sense was beeping non-stop, which could only prove one thing.
He quickly turned around and used a spider web bomb to block the pumpkin bomb that had smashed the window. The bomb was thus stopped and fell to the side of the window, where it detonated instantly. The flames illuminated the night. Peter looked outside and saw a man on a glider, wearing an exoskeleton power armor, standing in front of him.
"Hello, Spider-Man, I heard you were looking for me?"
Beneath the flames, the man let out a sinister laugh. Peter looked around, apologized, and then used his spider silk to stick a chair to him, throwing it at the man outside. The man then quickly escaped on a glider. Peter gave chase, and his spider-sense immediately activated. The man threw a pumpkin bomb in the direction Peter had fled.
The flames surged instantly, and Spider-Man leaped out of them, looking into the darkness at the demon piloting the glider, who had even turned towards him and paused. The demon let out a strange laugh and then immediately left, with Peter instantly giving chase.
"You know what? Spider-Man, I've always known you well. I know you're incredibly smart, so I prepared a special gift for you, Ned Liz. Isn't that great? You fell for it right away! You couldn't wait to rush in and ended up in the trap!"
"A trap? You mean your Halloween costume, or your poor little pumpkin? Sorry, but Halloween was over two months ago!"
Peter fired his spider silk at the demon, but the demon seemed to have anticipated this and dodged the attack. Then, it threw a pumpkin bomb at him. Peter instinctively dodged it but then realized something was wrong: his spider senses weren't working properly!
The enemy threw their pumpkin bombs at the crowd below!
A spider web instantly stuck to the pumpkin bomb and threw it at the demon. The demon retaliated with another pumpkin bomb. The two bombs detonated in mid-air. Amidst the intense heat, throwing knives were launched from the sides of the flying skateboard and thrown at Spider-Man.
"So, that's all you can do? Throw bombs at people, or throw knives?"
Two throwing knives struck the demon with pinpoint accuracy, hitting its body but not fatally. Peter landed on his skateboard, punched the demon, and then angrily shouted, "Is that all you've got?"
"Hahaha, hahaha, of course not, Spider-Man, hahahaha."
The demon that Peter punched suddenly burst into inexplicable laughter. In his anger and confusion, Peter saw the demon's mask.
The other person's mask had hollowed-out eyes, and Peter could see the terror in the person's eyes beneath the mask, with tears streaming down their face.
"You are not an evil spirit, no, you are not an evil spirit!"
"That's definitely a demon, Spider-Man. Arnold Donovan is destined to become a demon, just like Ned Liz!"
Despite the terror in the other person's eyes, the voice beneath the mask was mocking: "The Fairy King greets you, Spider-Man. Are you ready?"
"These demons aren't ordinary people riding gliders and wearing costumes; they're corrupted Green Goblins!"
As a punch was thrown at Spider-Man, which was then caught by the latter, the two of them fell from the sky at the same time, crashing onto the roof of a building.
