Chapter 279 Removing the Mask
[Spider-Man Recap: Electro, who raided Osborn Technologies and stole the genetically modified electric eel, may be heading to Kenosha to team up with Mister Sinister to further enhance himself, while also avoiding the trouble caused by Gwen and Cindy's previous date. Peter Parker decides to travel to Kenosha with the X-Men—or rather, the New Mutants—to investigate Electro. Along the way, Kitty Pryde keeps trying to chat with him.]

[This isn't the end. To reverse the international reputation of the mutant community and Kenosha, Magneto wants Spider-Man to have a good time visiting Kenosha, the first non-mutant visitor with significant influence since the nation's founding. Magneto hopes he can prove to the world that Kenosha is a harmonious and friendly country, and recommends a guide for him: his daughter Wanda Maximoff, who is about the same age as Peter—another young and beautiful girl. Good luck, Peter!]

Thank you so much, Venom!

You're welcome, buddy.

Ignoring Venom's internal monologue, Wanda watched Logan and Magneto leave, scratching the back of her head. Seeing Spider-Man doing the same thing, Wanda immediately relaxed. She had initially thought the Avengers, as the world's most powerful hero team, would be a formidable group. But now it seemed Spider-Man was at least a very ordinary…person?

Thinking of the scenes on TV of a giant Spider-Man fighting a dragon, Wanda became uncertain.

“I’m sorry my father didn’t give you much of a choice, Spider-Man.” Wanda began by apologizing: “Although he’s always denied it, I can tell he’s been incredibly tired. He’s practically taken the future of all mutants as his own responsibility. He was so excited when he learned that an Avenger was coming, so…”

"Yes, I understand."

Can't you understand? I've already seen a Magneto who stabbed you to death for the future of mutants, and I've also seen a Magneto who let zombies in for the future of mutants. That's really too much for mutants.

Peter mentally grumbled as he looked at Wanda: "As long as we can ensure the safety of the gene-editing device and catch the person, I think it's alright. Maybe we can find the target by wandering around the city."

So...you dressed like this?

Peter paused for a moment.

“You’re here to find someone. If you’re wearing your own costume, wouldn’t that be like telling everyone that Spider-Man is here?” Wanda explained. “Maybe you wear a mask to conceal your identity and ensure your family’s safety. But here, even if you take off your mask, no one will know who’s behind it. If you just walk down the street like this, no one will think you’re Spider-Man.”

Peter paused for a moment, then remained silent for a while before scratching his head.

You think she's right.

Yes, nobody here knows Peter Parker, and if Peter Parker walked down the street, nobody would associate him with Spider-Man, so there's only one problem.

"Can I trust you?"

If Spider-Man were to remove his mask and go out in civilian clothes, aside from Logan who already knows his identity, only Wanda would see who is behind the mask. Peter knows, of course, that Wanda can be trusted, but he still intends to ask and hear the judgment given by his spider-sense.

"It's really hard for me to convince you of someone you've just met..."

Peter took a step back, retreating into the shadows of Magneto's palace entrance. After confirming that no one else was nearby, he allowed the venom to dissipate and removed his suit. Wanda, seeing Peter back in civilian clothes, stopped speaking in surprise, then smiled incredulously.

“Spider-Man… is about my age?” “That’s a bit strange, isn’t it?” Peter felt a sense of relief. “You can call me Peter.”

“Thank you for your trust. To be honest, I’m really surprised.” Wanda didn’t know how to respond for a moment, so she introduced herself again: “Same here, you can call me Wanda.”

“Let me make this clear first, I’m not exactly good at traveling. Every time I think everything is over and I can finally rest, trouble comes one after another, it just won’t stop.” Peter warned Wanda, “If I run into the person I’m looking for or something else happens on the road, don’t blame me.”

"If that's really the case, I'm quite looking forward to what will happen."

Port Hammer International Airport.

A man in a brown trench coat slipped in with practiced ease, skillfully bypassing all the guards. He had impressive eyes, not only because of his red pupils, but also because of his black sclera.

"So, this is it."

He walked up to the Blackbird fighter jet, a deck of cards in his hand, a smile on his face, then took out something the size of a coin and placed it on the cockpit door. A few seconds later, the door opened, and he strolled in, placing a small metal cube on the aircraft's control panel.

A holographic projection of Otto Octavia's head appeared on it.

“Very good, Mr. Remy LeBeau. I was initially somewhat skeptical of the methods of the so-called Thieves' Guild, but now it is clear that you are indeed world-class thieves.”

“Haha, I love hearing generous employers say things like that.” Remy continued, cutting the cards as he asked, “You kept your word, didn’t you? No killing, no vandalism. It’s rare to find a place that doesn’t mind my eyes, and I don’t want to be kicked out.”

"Don't worry, Mr. LeBron. All you have to do is transfer my data to the Blackbird fighter jet. As I said, I have no ill intentions towards the X-Men; I just want to steal some things."

"Then you can always come to me."

Remy spoke nonchalantly as he watched the small cube emit a faint green glow, while Doctor Octopus chuckled on the other side. He didn't trust these paid thieves; he couldn't let them know what he was going to steal from Xavier's Academy.

Fortunately, as a professional thief in the Thieves Guild, Remy didn't care about this.

"Alright, all done, that's a wrap."

"Wolverine can smell your scent, so don't forget to deal with him."

"Haha, then don't trouble yourself, after all, this is within our scope of work." Remy smiled and waved to Doctor Octopus. "By the way, if you want to do similar business again, you don't need to go through the guild, just come directly to me, Gambit."
