Chapter 257 I, Gwen, a Superpowered Person

"In the end, the Kovac incident was basically resolved peacefully, and we gained nothing except that Kang would launch an invasion against us in the future."

Back in New York, Reed and Tony talked about it. They couldn't discuss this with the Captain; the old man was already overwhelmed by the world seventy years in the future, let alone a thousand. This kind of scenario involving future invasion could only be left to Tony and Hank.

Everyone knew that when Kang came next time, he wouldn't be alone. He was an emperor of an empire, not a reckless lone wolf.

“Ha, so after experiencing two alien invasions, we’re now facing a future invasion.” Tony laughed helplessly. “You know what the biggest problem is, Reed? No matter what preparations we make, that guy can see it in the future. We’re practically doing nothing.”

“But we can’t just do nothing. My multiverse shuttle is almost finished. It will be completed in about half a month. Then we can seek help from other multiverses.” Reed sighed helplessly. “What about the Avengers? What are they planning to do?”

"Hank believes that transforming Ultron or Jarvis into an autonomously evolving AI could counter Kang, but we have other concerns."

The information coming from the multiverse made Tony uneasy. Was it really appropriate to trigger an Age of Ultron in order to fight against a possible future Kang dynasty?

Where are the Guardians of the Galaxy?

"They said they're responsible for galactic issues and can't concern themselves with Earth's affairs." Reed felt the Guardians of the Galaxy simply didn't want to get involved here. Of course, they also had some personal matters to attend to; Star-Lord had to visit family, having just learned his grandfather was still alive. Rocket finally realized he was a raccoon, and that the damned Supreme Evolution was actually a human. He now desperately wanted to gather enough intelligence to give that damned Supreme Evolution a good beating.

However, in conclusion, it was unrealistic to expect these alien friends to provide timely assistance when the Conquerors launched a full-scale invasion.

"Okay, how's that U.S. Air Force colonel doing?"

“She has become a super… battery, able to absorb energy to strengthen her cells and enhance her physical abilities, or she can project that energy.” Reed shrugged helplessly: “I’m still researching her specific physical strength, but it shouldn’t be too strong.”

"Well, hopefully no more superpowered individuals will appear." Tony sighed helplessly, feeling a headache coming on. "If a U.S. Army colonel gets superpowers, General Ross of the Pentagon will be overjoyed."

In fact, the next superpowered person emerged very quickly.

Peter Parker was enjoying his time off, sitting in the entertainment area on the middle floor of the hotel, playing on his phone, when his spider-sense suddenly malfunctioned slightly. He reached behind him and grabbed someone's wrist.

He tilted his head back and saw a rather unexpected person.

“Gwen? You… I didn’t hear your footsteps.”

Peter released his hand, and Gwen rubbed her wrist before happily sitting down next to him: "See? Even you need me to get really close to notice me, right?"

"...So? Did you learn any stealth footwork techniques?"

“Not this one.” Gwen looked tense and urged, “Turn around first, turn your head around.”

Peter did as instructed, then, as if remembering something, continued scrolling through his phone. Wait, something seems off.

Did someone just call me?
Peter looked around blankly, then finally saw Gwen sitting next to him and suddenly realized: "Wait, you... you've awakened superpowers?"

“Yes, I’ve discovered that if I want to, anyone who can’t see me will think I don’t exist. It’s been like this since I came out of the Soul Stone—no, since Kovac left.” Gwen laughed heartily. The Cosmic Cube has the ability to alter reality, and as the first person to see Kovac, it seems that Kovac has a deep memory of Gwen.

He told Gwen that she was also a Spider-Man, but when Kovak left, his energy didn't turn Gwen into Spider-Man; instead, it gave her another ability.

“If you hadn’t looked at me, that Gwen Stacy wouldn’t exist. You wouldn’t remember me, you wouldn’t know what I’ve done or what I’m doing.”

Compared to the incredibly excited Gwen, Peter was more concerned about something else: "Is this ability passive, or..."

"It has to be proactive; if it were something we had to do passively, that would be too troublesome."

Peter breathed a sigh of relief. He knew of similar abilities; for example, Forget-Me-Not, a lesser-known X-Men character, had the ability to forget everything upon turning his head. Silence, the classic villain from Doctor Who, also possessed the same power. If this ability caused trouble in daily life, that was a minor issue. The real problem was if the ability went out of control and the whole world forgot about Gwen—that would be a huge mess.

Because he was forgotten, Forget-Me-Not from the X-Men wasn't even resurrected during the K Island arc.

"So, what codename should I choose? Ghost?"

"Some people have already called it a ghost, so I don't think it's a good idea."

Peter initially rejected Gwen's idea. If Gwen were to gain spider-like abilities now, she would truly be a "Ghost Spider," a Spider-Woman no one would remember—that would be terrifying. As for now…

"First, we need to determine that your ability comes from Kovac and not from anything else, such as the X gene."

Peter looked at Gwen very seriously, and Gwen stuck out her tongue, waiting for Peter to continue.

"What's next?"

"...I don't think your abilities are suited to be a superhero, since nobody remembers what you've done. S.H.I.E.L.D. might be interested in you, but believe me, that's not the place for you, so you'd better, uh, stay out of it?" Peter said, not even believing it himself. It was impossible for Gwen not to get involved.

The most convenient use of this ability is for infiltration and surprise attacks. For surprise attacks, Gwen's physical abilities may not be effective. For infiltration, perhaps we should talk to Felicia.
While Peter was still racking his brains over this matter, Gwen seemed to have thought of something and interrupted Peter, who was about to continue, saying, "Okay, let's put this aside for now. Actually, I have something else to talk to you about, something very important."

Peter sat up straight and looked at Gwen, wondering what she was going to say.

"It's about my...perfect world."

It's normal for Carol Danvers to be controversial; she wasn't well-liked in the comics or movies during the Captain Marvel era, and there was no intention to make her Captain Marvel. But the main reason is that a character is needed to connect the Kree storyline and S.W.O.R.D., and no one is more suitable than Ms. Marvel.
