Chapter 165 A Chance Encounter in the Night

Chapter 165 A Chance Encounter in the Night
Peter was unaware that the future "Vulture" Adrian had been driven away by Norman, nor did he know that "Hunter Craven" from Russia had arrived in New York. For him, it was simply a leisurely October—as leisurely as could be.

"Based on old NYPD files on Kingpin's arrest, Fisker's financial flows, and the Avengers' records, we can be fairly certain that the Fisker-sponsored natural history museum was actually a transit point and laundering center for smuggled illegal wildlife products. Fisker used methods to package various smuggled products as centuries-old works of art and then sold them to people who wanted to buy them."

Harry's voice rang in Peter's ears. This was the Spider-Team's first joint operation since the establishment of the Web Site—Harry and Amadeus were responsible for external support, while Peter was in charge of the operation. Their goal was to stop Kingpin's series of asset transfers and laundering operations after his imprisonment. After Fisk's imprisonment, his power inevitably underwent a strategic contraction. In the process, many illegal businesses that were previously impossible to investigate would be exposed. The NYPD would have almost no chance of catching Fisk's companies in time, so naturally, Spider-Man came to their aid.

Peter activated his stealth mode and crept into the museum. His main goal was to find evidence that the artworks inside were not artifacts but luxury goods, and ideally, he could find some kind of bill. The Fisk Building was still empty. Because of Fisk's surrender, the police had no reason to search the Fisk Building. On the contrary, he had already confessed a lot and was protected.

"I'm in."

Invisibility doesn't hide sound, so Peter chose to crawl on the ceiling to avoid making noise. It's past 10 p.m., and he should theoretically be in bed, but he's actually out here playing Spider-Man and fighting crime.

"Okay, according to the museum design drawings submitted to the city government, you should be going to..."

"Wait, there are people inside the museum."

Peter's sudden message startled Harry. There were still people here at this hour? Who could be in the museum at this hour? Were they about to witness a dark deal?

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem so, at least not on the surface.

Peter lay motionless on the ceiling, waiting for the other person to approach. The person approaching was a Slavic man in a suit, but unexpectedly, the man spoke English without any Slavic accent; instead, he spoke fluent American English.

"Is this a West African craft?"

Standing in front of the ivory artifacts displayed in the showcase, the guest smiled and asked a question. The guide smiled and nodded: "Yes, Mr. Kravnov, this is a craft from Ghana in West Africa. It depicts the great epic of Anansi, the god of stories, bringing the tale to humankind."

That damn Anansi is still chasing me.

Peter muttered a curse under his breath about Anansi, then scanned the man's face with his eyepiece and began data analysis. Harry then gave him a name that shocked Peter considerably.

"This man is Sergei Kravinov, a member of the Russian State Duma, a big shot. He grew up in New York and returned to Russia at the age of 18, and is now 39."

Hunter Kraven!
Why is he here?
Peter, realizing that yet another Spider-Man villain had appeared, remained silent, watching the hunter Kraven a few dozen meters away. Meanwhile, Harry pulled up more information about the man: "Wait, he's also a member of a hunting club, known as the greatest hunter of the 21st century. He has ventured alone into the African continent many times to hunt various wild beasts, and therefore often receives complaints from various animal protection organizations. However, he is Russian."

Russia doesn't have that many messy NGOs, nor does it care about them, so it's only natural that they're here.

“Hey Peter, we might have found a smuggling route, a hunter who frequently goes to West Africa to hunt animals, and some illegally smuggled expensive animal artifacts…” “Yeah, I know, but we have no proof.”

Amadeus, who had been keeping his presence hidden, looked at the various data being fed back and couldn't help but ask, "Then why doesn't Jin just go directly to Africans for smuggling?"

"Then he is the buyer."

Peter didn't care about that. He just watched as Craven asked the guide questions about a rhinoceros horn artwork. He quietly left. Now was not the time to investigate Craven's relationship with Kingpin, and he didn't intend to clash with him here. The more important thing here was to find evidence of Kingpin's crimes.

So Peter slipped into the ventilation duct and headed toward the more secluded office.

Meanwhile, Cravin, who was listening to the explanation, heard some subtle noises. He frowned and listened carefully for a while. The guide asked in confusion, "Mr. Cravinov?"

"Oh, it's nothing, you can continue."

Peter kept moving forward, and soon he discovered a secret room area inside the museum that wasn't on the blueprints. The problem now was how to open this secret room. This space wasn't connected to the ventilation ducts. Peter quickly started thinking and then landed in the office next to it.

"How's the situation outside?"

“We’ve hacked into their surveillance system.” Amadeus finished his work in a flash. Harry took the monitor and began to observe: “There are no staff members nearby, Peter, can you open it?”

"Haha, tearing down the wall wouldn't be difficult, but that wouldn't be the point of infiltration." Peter muttered to himself as he searched for a way to enter the secret room. If there was a secret room, then there must be a way to enter the adjacent room. Peter observed the surroundings for any hidden mechanisms or entrances.

"There are no electrical facilities around, so the opening of this secret room must have used some kind of very simple linkage mechanism, which is both simple and unexpected by others..."

Peter glanced around the office and finally settled on the chair. The chair seemed a little out of place. Normally, if someone got up, the chair would push back, and if it were folded up, it wouldn't be folded up like this.

The chair in front of the desk seemed to be deliberately positioned at a comfortable distance, just right for someone to sit on. Peter moved the chair as he spoke, and then the wall next to him spun around, leading him into a secret room containing a list of recent transactions.

“This is too easy.”
