Chapter 125 Recruiting! Join the group!
Peter woke up the next morning to bad news: Captain America and the others wouldn't be able to return for the time being. A group of supervillains calling themselves Master Evil had suddenly appeared in Southeast Asia, waging a guerrilla war against the Avengers. This group of supervillains, who appeared out of nowhere without any prior record, had caused enormous destruction. It was estimated that the Avengers wouldn't be able to return anytime soon.

This is quite a coincidence, because Luke Cage had only escaped a few days ago, and the successful experiment meant that the US military's human experimentation program was progressing rapidly, perhaps reaching a crucial final stage. At this time, the Avengers were unable to return, making it hard not to draw parallels.

The test tube Felicia handed over suggests that Hydra may have infiltrated the US military's super-soldier program. Hydra first used Soviet resources to develop the super-soldier serum for the Winter Soldier, and then, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, used a seemingly legitimate and foolproof method to transfer the Soviet research results to the United States for continued research. This organization is more like a parasite than Hydra, relying on parasitizing other countries to grow its power; without others, it is utterly useless.

The problem now is that the Avengers are once again too busy to deal with this, so the burden falls on Peter again. And Peter? He's not entirely alone. Black Cat knows some things, but has no direction in New York, while Matt and his friends probably have a direction, but they don't know many things.

We need to gather all these people together and get them working together to find the illegal experimenters and Hydra agents hiding in the shadows. So Peter sent Matt a message, hoping to find a place for all the participants to gather. Matt quickly replied that he would pick a place; it's a mystery how a blind man could understand Peter's message and reply so quickly.

As for S.H.I.E.L.D....

In this matter, S.H.I.E.L.D. is actually the least trustworthy. Peter suspects that if Cindy reports this to Hydra, it will only exacerbate the tense atmosphere within Hydra. So it's better not to tell S.H.I.E.L.D. Before Hydra is completely eradicated, S.H.I.E.L.D.'s role may be negative.

When Hydra is completely eradicated, then S.H.I.E.L.D. will cease to exist altogether.

The X-Men are also a bit of a problem. Spider-Man finding the X-Men might attract attention, but Daredevil and his group, because they've been causing trouble on a small scale, won't get much attention.

Then there's Felicia, who definitely knows more. For example, how could she be so sure that the U.S. military is now also implementing the Super Soldier Serum program, and to the point that she needs to stop it—though it sounds strange, Peter is genuinely curious why Black Cat is now starting to stop all of this.

There has to be a reason, right? Hopefully, Felicia will reveal more information today.

Seeing Matt's unexpected reply about the meeting place, Peter put away his phone and went downstairs. Uncle Ben and Aunt May were already waiting at the dining table, chatting about the news of the past few days. New York seemed to have become quite turbulent recently. The Avengers' busy overseas missions and Kingpin's imprisonment had led to a surge in New York's general crime rate. In this area that neither S.H.I.E.L.D. nor the Avengers looked down upon, things were getting worse.

"That doesn't sound good. How's the banquet going, Aunt Mei?"

“There’s been a noticeable increase in people coming to us for help lately, and more and more people are becoming homeless.” Aunt May’s brow furrowed with worry, and it was clear that the situation in New York was indeed dire. Peter could only offer words of comfort, saying, “Things will get better,” before finishing his breakfast and heading off to school.

Late September at Midtown High School was uneventful. After the homecoming festival, the entire school temporarily returned to the same atmosphere. No one cared that this school actually harbored hidden talents; after all, it was just a public high school.

Peter put his bag away as usual and returned to his seat. Cindy was already sitting down, just as usual. As soon as Peter sat down, he heard her ask, "Why were you out so late last night?"

Peter now understood Black Cat's feelings from yesterday. "I received top-secret intelligence that I need to address." After giving Cindy a perfunctory answer, Peter remembered something and added, "Don't tell S.H.I.E.L.D. yet. I suspect... S.H.I.E.L.D. might not be safe either."

"I understand."

Without needing much explanation, Cindy nodded in agreement, adding, "I'm always here if you need me."

"Thank you."

The next challenge was how to contact Felicia. After all, there weren't any detective club activities scheduled for today, and since they weren't in the same grade, Peter had no idea about her class schedule. But surprisingly, the problem was incredibly...simple.

"Hey, you know what? That senior from yesterday, Felicia Hardy, she's a member of the school basketball team."

Harry, true to form, immediately provided Peter with valuable information. Peter glanced at him and asked with a strange expression, "How do you know so much?"

“I asked Liz. You could ask Cindy too… well, even if she doesn’t know, you could ask Gwen or MJ.”

Peter gave Harry another strange look, but he did know where to find Felicia after school.
-
In the gymnasium after school, Felicia, who was warming up, was greeted by a not-so-unexpected guest. She saw Peter Parker not far away, apologized to her teammates, and jogged over to Peter.

"Is there anything I can help you with, little boy? Was the homework Jessica gave you too difficult?"

“Perhaps, after all, who would have thought the murderer was the detective?” Peter smiled knowingly, looking at Felicia’s silent smile, and extended an invitation: “I have a, uh, masquerade ball going on, some like-minded friends will be attending. I can’t find any friends who can come along, so, may I invite you?”

"Hmm, can't find anyone?"

Felicia gave Peter a deep look, then smiled. "Okay, but you have to tell me where you are first. Let's exchange contact addresses, kid."

"I'm not much younger than you," Peter thought to himself as he exchanged numbers with Felicia and then sent her the meeting place for that evening: the rooftop of the Charity House in Manhattan.
