Chapter 29: Events Escalate
"Rookie! I heard gunshots! Where is this place?"

Eric's sudden words startled Annie. She quickly looked outside but couldn't find anything familiar.

"Although I know I'm handsome, my cheeky face can't block your extremely stupid gaze." Eric said.

"So every time I turn a corner, you have to look at the road signs for me and know where we are at all times, instead of just staring at me."

Annie opened her mouth. Although she knew that what Eric said was right, she didn't know why this guy was so irritating. She didn't know if she was annoyed by Eric's tone or because Eric thought she was stupid.

Eric said, "Didn't you hear what I said?"

Annie stood up and said, "Yes! Sir!"

Eric said, "I didn't hear what you said. Didn't you eat just now? Do you want me to buy you something to eat now?"

Annie gritted her teeth and shouted, "Yes! Sir!"

Eric turned an intersection and sped towards his destination: "So where are we now?"

"No. 23, Watts East." Annie said loudly, looking at the passing sign.

Eric said, "So we're almost there, rookie, be alert. This incident is very likely a shooting."

Annie was now alerted by Eric. Without any other thoughts in her mind, she immediately responded loudly:
"Yes! Sir!"

As Annie finished her words, the police radio began to sound.

"10-Adam (two-man patrol unit) -11! 39th East of Watts, command changed, Code 3 (emergency, lights and sirens required). Another caller claims a neighbor just pointed a gun at her and her boyfriend and fired multiple shots. It's been verified to be the same incident."

This was originally a Code 2-HIGH command, but it suddenly changed to a suspected shooting case.

Eric pursed his lips, picked up the intercom and said, "10-Adam-11! Copy that. We're arriving on the scene soon. Map please."

As the voice fell, a relevant map appeared on the police computer. Eric put down the walkie-talkie and looked at the map given by the dispatch center on the computer, and he understood.

In this parallel world, the police computers currently deployed by the Los Angeles Police Department are very advanced. Basically, this thing is like an all-in-one app.

Not only can it query information related to license plates, but it can also query other things, and even swipe cards, investigate the identity of criminal suspects, and many other functions. This is exactly the same as Baidu in the previous life.

In the event of a shooting, the map can also show the address involved in the case, where the shooting took place, and how many shots were fired.

In addition, it can naturally display the icons of nearby patrol units, allowing them to provide timely support.

In the current map, only his icon is closest to the destination, and the icons of the remaining three response units are relatively far away.

"It seems like we are the only ones who have arrived at the scene first." Eric said, looking at Annie who was nervous because it was a shooting case.

"Before we reach our destination, I want you to obey my instructions. I won't allow you to go east, west, south, or north. You must stand still. Do you understand?"

Annie nodded obediently.

"You're unlucky. You've encountered two Code 3 instructions on your first day of internship." Eric suddenly laughed.

Annie's mouth twitched. She also felt that she was quite unlucky. Seeing Eric's changing eyes, she acted immediately, turned on the siren, and adjusted the police lights to the maximum frequency.

Next, grab the safety handrail by the door immediately.

Unconsciously, she seemed to have become familiar with some of the business through Eric's training.

The next second, Eric stepped on the accelerator, and the fierce push on her back made Annie lean back with her eyes wide open.

"here we go again!!!!"

With the Code 3 instruction, Eric didn't bother to care about the traffic rules and regulations and sped forward at the fastest speed. The vehicles in front also heard the sirens and saw through the rearview mirrors that the police car seemed to be about to hit them, so they all made way for the aggressive police car.

This also caused the drivers who gave way to watch the police car rushing by fiercely, trembling in their hearts and cursing "Fuck!", and they all wanted to complain fiercely. But Eric didn't care about such things. He had been complained about so many times that he had reached the point where he was indifferent and had no regrets.

Because of this, he arrived at the scene at a fairly fast speed.

Watts East 39th.

The surrounding area is full of single-family houses with lawns. The environment here belongs to an ordinary residential area. According to the assessment of the environment, Eric judged that the level here is probably between medium and lower medium.

"10-Adam-11 calling dispatch, we've arrived at the scene. Code 6-A is out investigating. Nearby units need attention."

Dispatch Center: "Received!"

Eric parked the police car on the side of the street, looked at a man and a woman coming towards him from a residential building in front, unbuckled his seat belts and looked at Annie.

"First, take the M870 shotgun and the M4 in the trunk. I'll go see what's going on."

"Okay!" Annie did as she was told and unlocked the safety buckle on the M870 shotgun.

Eric got out of the car, his right hand naturally resting on the holster, looking at the man and woman who came to greet him, and said loudly.

"What's going on? Are you calling the police?"

He didn't hear any gunshots, which seemed to indicate that the matter was on the verge of ending.

"I called the police! Officer! Because I heard gunshots." The man's voice was a little panicked.

"Then I came out and saw the gunshots were coming from the Cooper house!"

Hearing this, Eric immediately figured out that the two reports were about the same incident. The man was the first to call the police, but he was not the person involved. So according to this man, the second person to call the police should be Cooper, the person involved.

But the situation is a bit strange. Is the person involved still alive?

"Where is the Cooper family?" Eric asked.

The man immediately pointed to a house about ten meters away.

"Officer, that's Cooper's home! My wife and I escaped, and I really don't know the specific circumstances."

At this time, Annie came behind him with an M870 shotgun and an M4 in one hand.

"Sir."

Eric nodded, took the M4 from her hand, checked it briefly, and said to the man and woman in front of him.

"You hide here and don't come near."

Seeing the man and woman nod, Eric checked the M4 in his hand and then spoke calmly to Annie behind him.

"Rookie, you stay here and watch them too. If anything unexpected happens, shoot decisively to protect yourself."

Annie wanted to say something, but Eric had already placed the butt of the M4 against his shoulder, with his gunhand raised above his support hand and the muzzle down in a low ready position, moving quickly towards the target house in front.

He was too lazy to let a rookie who had just started patrolling on his first day participate in such a dangerous case, because the rookie was not only a burden but also the source of some accidents.

Moreover, this girl's identity was too sensitive, and Daves had specifically reminded him of this.

This thought flashed through his mind, and Eric stared at the target house which was only seven or eight meters away. He slowed down his pace and his eyes became more alert. He began to raise the M4 with his finger lightly on the trigger, his eyes constantly scanning the surroundings, and slowly moved forward along the wall of the house on the street.

Something is wrong! Something is wrong. Why are the leaders so quiet?
