Chapter 274 Inheritance
That night, Wu Chengyu did not return to his guest room at Chongyang Palace to rest, but instead stayed at Zhenxiang's undeveloped Taoist temple.

There was only one bed, and the old Taoist priest took it without hesitation, sleeping soundly. Wu Chengyu simply sat in a corner meditating and regulating his breathing.

The next day, Wu Chengyu went down the mountain again to buy things for the old Taoist priest. This time he brought even more things, including all the kitchen utensils for the wild Taoist temple.

The old Taoist priest didn't lecture Wu Chengyu anymore. Instead, he kept urging Wu Chengyu to cook delicious food for him, making sure it wasn't the same as the previous dishes, that it didn't suit his taste, and that it wasn't bland vegetarian food.

At the same time, the old Taoist priest also demanded that he not practice martial arts or read books, but only work for him.

Although Wu Chengyu swore he would never take another master in this life, he also tacitly acknowledged that he was a descendant of Mo Laodao's lineage, and that Zhenxiang Laodao was indeed his ancestor. So although serving others was certainly uncomfortable, he was willing to do it.

Thus, Wu Chengyu stayed in the Taoist temple for a month. During this month, the Taoist scriptures he had read before were no longer in his mind. He would no longer inexplicably recall that famous Taoist quote and then think he had made progress and become complacent.

Apart from meditating at night, he didn't practice martial arts for another day. Gradually, he seemed to forget that he was a martial arts master. At most, he was strong and could chop wood without an axe, just breaking it with his hands.

A month later, the old Taoist priest Zhenxiang called him to his side again, looked him up and down, and nodded.

"Fortunately, you're actually dumber than I thought. I'm increasingly convinced that you shouldn't have such a high level of cultivation, but that's your secret, and I'm too lazy to ask."

However, I did discover one of your strengths: you are actually a good listener. You can do whatever I ask you to do, which is quite unusual.

However, this month hasn't been without its benefits; your hostility has finally dissipated.

Wu Chengyu didn't know what the resentment in his body was, but this past month had made him feel like he was working for someone else in his previous life, especially when he first joined the company. He listened to his superiors and did whatever they asked, willingly serving as a beast of burden.

Now he cooks and serves the old Taoist priest every day, isn't that just like when he was working at a company? It's all about bowing your head and putting in the effort.

This is perhaps what the old Taoist priest found strange. A super master like Wu Chengyu, a rich young master, shouldn't be able to do these things. He didn't know about Wu Chengyu's past experiences.

However, being a cow or horse breeds resentment, but serving the old Taoist priest here did bring a lot of peace of mind.

"Let me ask you, are you happy when you cook for me? I asked you to cook a different dish every day for a month, and you actually did it. You actually studied the recipes and devoted yourself to it wholeheartedly."

Wu Chengyu nodded. Actually, it wasn't difficult. He had seen at least several thousand dishes in his later years. Cooking for this old Taoist priest would involve at most two dishes per meal, and a total of only sixty dishes per month. Any slightly larger restaurant would have more than that on its menu.

But he never showed any impatience. He would get up every morning and carefully plan what he would do differently that day. This kind of patience has become increasingly rare in the last two years, especially after he felt that his martial arts skills had greatly improved.

"Since you are a martial arts master and come from a wealthy family, why are you so good at cooking?"

Wu Chengyu thought for a moment and replied, "It's probably because I'm greedy."

Generally speaking, people who have a sweet tooth tend to be good cooks, but Wu Chengyu's current culinary skills are due to the bamboo slips, which allowed him to take a shortcut.

“Very good. We, the Quanxing people, believe that all six desires should be properly satisfied. Human desires are an integral part of the body and cannot be discarded.”

The ears crave sound, the eyes crave color, the nose craves fragrance, and the mouth craves flavor. If even these desires are gone, one is no longer human and might as well dig a hole and bury oneself.

Because of your love for delicious food, you've developed excellent culinary skills. Having desires leads to having the means to satisfy them, and these means don't come from external exploitation or plunder, but entirely from internal seeking. This is the Tao that Quanxing pursues.

The Quanxing sect is never selfish as outsiders claim; in fact, they prefer self-sufficiency.

"Let me ask you again, when you see a beautiful young woman, do you like her? Do you ever think about sleeping with her?"

Wu Chengyu nodded: "I have thought about it, I've always thought about it, and sometimes I'm even impulsive about it."

Wu Chengyu has seen relatively few women in this life, but in his previous life, he was overwhelmed with them. Every day when he went out, he would encounter many beautiful women, or watch videos and you could hardly find anyone who wasn't good-looking. As for his thoughts after seeing them, he would definitely have all sorts of fantasies, and he had too many successful examples of this.

"That's right. We're men, so of course we're attracted to beautiful women. We're not just attracted, we want to take action. Sexual desire is also a pursuit in life."

To be honest, back in the day I frequented every brothel and entertainment venue in the Song Dynasty. If it weren't for the fact that I can't actually have sex with anyone now, I would still go.

I asked Wang Chongyang the same question back then, and Wang Chongyang's choice was to abandon love and affection, not to look at it, not to think about it, and not to be moved. From that day on, I knew that he was not Quanxing.

Not looking is possible, but can one truly remain unmoved and unaffected? Forcing oneself to restrain oneself will only backfire, but Wang Chongyang simply refused to listen.

I could tell you came with a murderous aura, so you must have killed a lot of people. I won't ask whether the people you killed were good or evil. If you have anger in your heart and can't control it, killing people in a fit of rage is also a way to satisfy your desires.

So, Wu Chengyu, you're actually a true Quanxing (a sect of Confucian scholars) through and through. You have all sorts of desires, and deep down you believe they're all right, never resisting them, without the hypocrisy of those moral guardians. Mo Guisheng's judgment is better than mine; he's truly found the right successor.”

This may be the source of the conflict between people from later generations and people from this era in many concepts. In fact, if the old Taoist priest had asked other time travelers from later generations, he would have gotten the same answer. But it is impossible to say that people from later generations are all Quanxing.

However, Wu Chengyu would not correct this point, because he could not find a reason to refute it.

At this point, the old Taoist priest turned around and walked to the cabinet, taking out a wooden box from it. The box was rotten and covered in dust, and it was unclear how long the old Taoist priest had kept it there.

The old Taoist priest placed the wooden box in front of Wu Chengyu and said, "Actually, you have come at just the right time. I was born during the reign of Emperor Zhezong. At that time, Emperor Huizong, that spendthrift son, had not yet been born. I am now over a hundred years old, and I don't know exactly how long I have been alive."

"Don't worry, I won't die anytime soon. There's no such thing as entrusting someone to me on my deathbed. However, after me, you're the only one left who truly carries on the Quanxing lineage."

Wu Chengyu took the wooden box, opened it, and was somewhat surprised. Inside was a bronze mirror, similar to the one left to him by Master Mo, except that the shape of the button on the back of the mirror was slightly different.

"This mirror is a symbol of the Quanxing sect. Its origin is unknown, and its purpose is also unknown. There are two mirrors in total. The one that Mo Guisheng is keeping should be with you."

Now that I've given you this side of myself, you are now the most genuine successor of the Quanxing Sect. I, the old Taoist, will be leaving here tomorrow. I don't know where I'm going, but I have no regrets. Maybe I'll die in a beautiful place someday.

I don't ask you to inherit the Quanzhen School. I tried back then, but failed. Instead, I created the Quanzhen School.

The doctrines of Quanxing have long been integrated into various Taoist sects, so why should you inherit them? The reason I gave them to you is just to leave you with a memento.

"Go on your way. Our bond has ended. It's a pity I won't have the chance to see what you'll be like in the future."
