The Legend of the Condor Heroes: From Being Expelled from Peach Blossom Island
Chapter 175: Rest in peace
Chapter 175: Rest in peace
Wu Chengyu placed the pheasant at the entrance of the cave and went inside. He immediately saw the flowers on the bald eagle's head and was instantly pleased. He had previously thought the eagle was too ugly and forced it to tie a few flowers to its fleshy growth. The bald eagle's lifeless expression at that time was truly vivid.
"Come on, Dalang, drink this bowl of medicine and get better quickly. I know you definitely want to beat me up again after you get better. Don't worry, you definitely won't be able to find me then."
There was still a lot of the medicinal wine left from soaking the snake gallbladders. Wu Chengyu soaked other snake gallbladders in it to neutralize the toxicity and fed it to the snake. This was the best tonic for the snake that had suffered external injuries.
The medicinal wine also contains his specially made detoxifying powder, which can gradually remove the toxins accumulated in the body of the bald eagle.
"Even though I tricked you, I'm still toying with you now. Don't move, your hair is crooked, let me straighten it for you."
But I truly wanted to save you. The medicine I gave you was the best and most effective. Look, the bald patches on your body that used to look like dog skin plasters are now starting to grow fine down. In that respect, I've done you a great favor.
Unfortunately, Wu Chengyu, who had a negative affinity for animals, couldn't get the slightest bit of gratitude from the bald eagle, no matter how carefully he took care of it. The bald eagle was practically spitting fire in its eyes at him, but the more it acted like that, the happier Wu Chengyu became.
I love how it desperately wants to kill itself, yet is powerless to do anything about it.
After feeding the eagle medicine, the bald eagle became drowsy under the influence of the alcohol. Wu Chengyu turned around and went to the cave entrance, set up a campfire, and roasted the pheasant over the fire, sprinkling seasoning on it from time to time. He was in a great mood.
While waiting for the food to bake, Wu Chengyu turned to look at the stone tomb of Dugu Qiubai in the corner of the cave, and a thought struck him.
He walked to the stone tomb, and the eagle beside him became excited and struggled to get up, but unfortunately he couldn't muster any strength.
"Don't worry, I have no ill intentions towards Dugu Qiubai."
However, his grave was really poorly built. It's not your fault; what would a bird like you know?
The most important thing when someone dies is to be buried in the ground so that they can rest in peace. If you pile a bunch of stones on their bones, it's no different from leaving their body exposed in the wilderness.
Out of respect for Dugu Qiubai, a respected elder, I personally oversaw his burial.
Wu Chengyu meant well, but he was mostly curious. While the eagle was unconscious, he took the opportunity to thoroughly examine the cave, the surrounding valley, and the sword tomb, but he couldn't find any secret manuals at all.
The only possibility is this stone tomb that has never been moved.
He wasn't so eager for the Dugu Nine Swords; he was more interested in verifying an idea: who created the Dugu Nine Swords?
Wu Chengyu first moved the stones off the stone grave one by one and put them aside. There were no more than a hundred stones in total. Soon, a skeleton appeared in front of Wu Chengyu. The clothes on the skeleton were completely rotten, but the skeleton was very intact.
Wu Chengyu roughly estimated that, based on the length of the skeleton, Dugu Qiubai should have been about 1.8 meters tall in life, which would have been considered a tall man in ancient times. However, the bones of his arms were very long, with an arm span of nearly two meters.
With such a long wingspan, it's a real waste that he didn't play basketball but went to practice swordsmanship. However, having a long wingspan does give him an advantage when using a sword.
As you can see, Liu Bei, the Imperial Uncle, dared to wield a sword while charging into battle on horseback. He did this simply because he had long arms and could use a short weapon as if it were a long one.
Apart from that, nothing else was found in the entire stone tomb, and the legendary Dugu Nine Swords did not appear.
Wu Chengyu shook his head. It seemed that the Dugu Nine Swords were ultimately not meant for him. Fortunately, he didn't practice swordsmanship much anyway.
Therefore, it seems that the Dugu Nine Swords passed down to Feng Qingyang in later generations was created by a later generation, most likely Yang Guo, as later readers speculated. Few people knew of Dugu Qiubai, and no one sought to make him famous. After all, the sword principles of the Dugu Nine Swords do not align with those of Dugu Qiubai; there is no heavy sword without an edge, no great skill without artifice, and no sword that transcends all things, where grass, trees, mountains, and rocks can all be used as swords.
The Dugu Nine Swords emphasizes the principle of defeating opponents with moves, focusing on techniques and exploiting weaknesses, which is at most consistent with the concept of the first level of Dugu Qiubai's sword.
Wu Chengyu turned back to the shelter and took the bronze cauldron that had been used to hold the snake soup. After the battle with the snake eagle, he put the bronze cauldron back.
Wu Chengyu placed Dugu Qiubai's remains into a bronze cauldron, then sealed it with a stone slab. He then dug a large pit in the original location of the stone tomb, placed the bronze cauldron into the pit, and covered it with soil and stones, finally forming a small mound.
Then he found a stone slab and carved eight large characters on it with his Qingfeng sword: "Tomb of the Sword Demon Dugu Qiubai". He then placed the stone slab in front of the tomb.
The giant eagle beside him watched Wu Chengyu lay a hand on the stone tomb. At first, it was filled with rage and struggled incessantly. But after seeing that Wu Chengyu had truly laid Dugu Qiubai to rest in peace, it gradually calmed down and looked at Wu Chengyu with a hint of gratitude, though the gratitude was rather limited.
After Wu Chengyu finished everything, he felt that Dugu Qiubai's burial place, apart from the few dozen words on the stone wall, lacked the Dugu Nine Swords and was indeed missing something.
He picked up the Qingfeng sword and wrote on the wall beside him: "The junior Hu Lianwang, after paying homage to the Sword Demon senior, specially left the Great Field Sword Technique to comfort the sage above and entertain the younger generation below."
The Great Field Sword Technique: A swordsman must first be sincere with the sword and have the sword in his heart. One who has a sword in his hand but not in his heart is not a swordsman.
Therefore, one must first obtain the sword. To obtain the sword, one must have high cohesion, low coupling, align the granularity in one's mind, and increase retention rate. Only in this way can one become a swordsman.
However, acquiring the sword is merely the foundation. One must have the sword in one's heart, and then forget the sword, in order to use all things as a sword. Thus, it is necessary to achieve the existing quantity dimension, and then engage in incremental game and gray-scale release.
To acquire a sword and then forget it, thus completing the cycle, is the mark of a top swordsman in the world.
Above the swordsman is the sword saint. A swordsman is not one who is heartless and ruthless; one must first have feelings. Only by reaching the pinnacle of feelings can one reach the pinnacle of swordsmanship. Having feelings for heaven and earth, for all living beings, and for oneself is the only way to empower and enhance one's abilities, and to reach the supreme realm of swordsmanship.
After all that rambling, the swordplay that follows is actually quite serious.
Wu Chengyu renamed the Murong family's Dragon City Sword Technique and carved it on the stone wall.
The Dragon City Sword Technique is considered a top-tier sword technique, but it's not outstanding. Even members of the Murong family can only use it to a limited extent. Murong Fu used it during the battle at Shaolin Temple, but was then severely beaten by Duan Yu's Six Meridian Divine Sword.
For this reason, Wu Chengyu's impression of the Longcheng Sword Technique was greatly reduced. He had practiced it before, but he could hardly be considered proficient. Fortunately, he still remembered it at this moment.
The Dragon City Sword Technique is considered a unique skill even in Tianlong Babu. If this sword technique were placed in The Smiling, Proud Wanderer, it would probably be considered a top-tier sword technique.
However, Wu Chengyu did not miss any of the sword techniques, but sword manuals usually have illustrations. Wu Chengyu had never studied painting, so he could only try to recreate the techniques as much as possible based on what he remembered. The result was that the more he drew, the more it looked like a stick figure.
With the nonsensical ramblings in the previous sword manual, plus these messy illustrations, I wonder what later generations would think if they saw this sword technique, and whether they would practice it to the point of going mad.
This chapter is a little bit of a parody, please don't mind.
