Being a knight is not easy
Chapter 280 Training
Chapter 280 Training
Robin surveyed the area, already having a preliminary plan in mind. He said to Wind Chime, "Let's first scout out the surrounding terrain to see where the monsters usually appear, so we can build a more targeted defense."
Wind Chime nodded in agreement. She waved her wand, releasing some detection magic elements that flew towards the forest like tiny sprites.
Soon, the wind chimes received some feedback.
“Robin, according to magical detection, there are several monster lairs in this forest, among which the one in the northeast is the most active, and monsters often come out from there to hunt,” Wind Chime said.
After a moment of contemplation, Robin said, "Then let's start building the defense line from that direction."
I think we can start by setting some simple traps, such as digging some deep pits, inserting sharp wooden stakes at the bottom, and then covering them with branches and leaves.
"Then set up some magical alarm devices around the area so we can detect any approaching magical beasts in time."
Following Robin's plan, Wind Chime began to act, using magic to make the surrounding trees bend and grow, forming natural barriers.
Robin, carrying some tools, began digging deep pits. His movements were swift and powerful, and he soon dug several large pits.
While they were busy, some serfs watched curiously from a distance.
They couldn't understand why these two newcomers were working so diligently for the village, since in their experience, no one had ever cared about their safety like Robin and Wind Chime.
William was among them, his eyes filled with doubt, but also with a growing respect for Robin and Wind Chime.
To ensure the safety of the village, Sheriff Willich specially assigned ten slave soldiers to assist the two.
The ten slave soldiers stood in a row, each one emaciated and pale, their eyes filled with numbness and fear.
They wore tattered clothes and carried crude weapons, including rusty swords and some just rough wooden sticks.
"If you encounter an insurmountable danger, you just need to retreat first," Willich said casually. He didn't care much about the lives of these slave soldiers. In his view, as long as the safety of the village could be guaranteed, sacrificing a few slave soldiers was nothing.
Robin was not surprised by Willich's words.
Robin knew that in this rigidly hierarchical society, the lives of slave soldiers were as worthless as grass.
He looked at these slave soldiers and felt a pang of sympathy, but he also knew that now was not the time to change anything.
Besides assisting them, these slave soldiers can be thrown out as food for monsters in critical moments. As long as they don't encounter monsters moving in groups, these slave soldiers are enough to feed the monsters.
Robin frowned. He knew it was a harsh reality, but he was determined to change it. He turned to the slave soldiers and said, "Don't worry, I won't use you as bait easily. As long as you follow my orders, I will do my best to ensure your safety."
Upon hearing Robin's words, the slave soldiers' eyes flashed with surprise and doubt; they hadn't expected this new adventurer to say such a thing.
One of the slave soldiers mustered his courage and said, "Sir, our lives are worthless, you don't need to worry about us."
Robin said seriously, "Don't worry, I don't like abandoning my men. Now, let's get to work." After saying that, he began to arrange for the slave soldiers to help him and Wind Chime build the defensive line.
During the construction of the defensive line, Robin discovered that although these slave soldiers were physically weak, they were very hardworking.
They diligently performed each task according to Robin's instructions, without the slightest slackening.
Robin felt a greater appreciation for these slave soldiers; he knew that given the opportunity, they too could become a force to be reckoned with.
Meanwhile, in the village, the other serfs, seeing Robin's treatment of the slave soldiers, developed a sense of curiosity and respect for him. They began to discuss this extraordinary adventurer in private, filled with anticipation for his arrival, wondering what changes he would bring to this dull and oppressive village.
Every day, besides designing traps, Robin would lead his slave soldiers in simple training.
He knew all too well that these slave soldiers were too physically weak and would have no power to resist if they were attacked by magical beasts.
The training, though simple, was very targeted, mainly consisting of basic physical training and simple combat techniques.
Every now and then, Robin would take them hunting in the forest, which excited the slave soldiers.
In this village, they rarely get to eat meat; most of the time, they can only barely fill their stomachs with coarse grains.
With the addition of meat, their bodies visibly became stronger.
His once frail body began to show muscle definition, and his eyes were no longer as dull as before, but had become more energetic.
Robin returned home with a bountiful harvest once again, having hunted a wolf, two deer, and three rabbits.
The prey was piled up on the ground in a small heap, emitting a fresh, bloody smell.
Robin grabbed one of the rabbits and a deer leg. "Nui! Take this to Sheriff Willie."
Robin knew that in order to successfully implement his plan in this village, it was crucial to cultivate a good relationship with the sheriff.
Nui is one of the ten slave soldiers. His original name was Blackie, which was too awful, so Robin changed it to Nui, which means slave one. Since there are no puns here, this name doesn't evoke any particular associations.
Upon hearing Robin's call, Nue immediately trotted over. He respectfully accepted the order, picked up the prey, and hurried towards the sheriff's house, his steps hurried, fearing that he would be too late to eat the meat.
Sheriff Willich's eyes lit up when he saw the prey that Nui had brought.
Although he held a high position in the village, he rarely had the opportunity to eat such fresh meat.
"Oh, did Robin and his crew do this?" Willizzi asked.
Nue replied respectfully, "Yes, Sheriff. Lord Roland had a very fruitful day and specially asked me to bring you a portion."
Willich nodded in satisfaction. "Yes, go back and tell Roland that he's very capable." With that, he gestured for his men to take the prey away for processing.
After receiving the reply, Nu quickly ran back to Robin.
The other slave soldiers sat around the campfire, watching the remaining prey with longing eyes.
When Robin saw Nui return, he smiled and said, "Alright, let's start grilling the meat. Everyone can have a good meal today."
The slave soldiers cheered and gathered around the fire to enjoy the rare treat, while Robin pondered his next move.
How to better develop one's own power in this village and lay the foundation for a serf uprising.
