Game of Thrones: I am Dothraki, not a barbarian
Chapter 175 Regency of Stormland
Chapter 175 Regency of Stormland
"Whoosh whoosh!"
Four giant grenades streaked across the sky, arcing through the valley, and landed precisely not far in front of the Blue Lane army's formation.
"Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!"
Four deafening roars rang out almost simultaneously, the powerful shockwaves causing rocks and soil to fall in a flurry.
As the smoke cleared, four enormous craters, knee-deep and over three meters in diameter, were blasted into the ground. Countless iron balls and shrapnel flew in all directions at astonishing speeds, like the scythe of death, reaping all life within their range.
Randy Tully's vision went blank. The shockwave from the explosion nearly threw him off his horse, and his ears felt like they were filled with countless flies, all he could hear was a buzzing sound.
Many of the knights who followed him were not so lucky; quite a few were thrown to the ground.
The heavy armor was like a pile of rags in front of the flying iron balls. Those who were close were immediately torn to pieces by the steel storm. Those who were far away had iron balls pierce their chests and fall off their horses. Some even had their eyeballs blown out and covered their faces, howling in pain.
Countless warhorses fell to the ground dead, their intestines ripped out. The surviving warhorses reared up, throwing off their riders. Some lost all control and charged straight into their own infantry ranks, creating utter chaos.
"Gods! What was that explosion?" a young knight screamed, his voice filled with terror.
Faced with this catastrophic scene, fear began to spread like a plague, and with just one explosion, the cavalry formation had completely collapsed.
Although the infantry were far from the explosion, they couldn't help but retreat when they saw the horrific state of the cavalry.
"Don't lose your composure!" Landau shouted hoarsely, trying to salvage the situation. "All troops, advance!"
Although he was also quite frightened by the explosion, he keenly realized from his years of experience that as long as he engaged in close hand-to-hand combat with the enemy, the explosion would have no effect!
However, his orders seemed to sink without a trace.
The soldiers weren't blind; the catapults on the cliff were clearly visible, obviously being reloaded, and the next attack was imminent.
With 20,000 troops spread out for several miles, how many more could stand in front of them if they didn't quickly run out of the catapult's range?
At the top of the mountain, Baqu looked down at the chaos below and laughed heartily: "Look at them, they're so scared they're about to wet their pants!"
Hong Yang frowned. "They outnumber us after all," he pointed into the distance. "Look over there, there are at least 20,000 more. If a real fight breaks out, our casualties will definitely be significant!"
"Adjust direction!" Baqu suddenly ordered. "Two units aimed at Baratheon, two at Renly!"
The soldiers quickly adjusted the catapults, which made a series of clicking sounds. Two of the massive machines slowly turned around and aimed at two different targets, one in front and one behind.
Lahalo surveyed the battlefield situation. The vanguard of Landau was already in a state of panic under the bombardment of grenades, while the troops on Roland's side were also beginning to stir. This was a golden opportunity.
He began to don his armor, picked up his scimitar, and mounted his black warhorse. The Dothraki warriors were already fully prepared, and the warhorses pawed the ground, seemingly sensing the impending battle.
War is about humanity, not numbers.
The enemy's morale is exhausted. If one person flees, it will affect the fleeing of a group of people. If a group of people flee, the entire army will collapse!
"Today, we will write a new legend!" Lahalo drew his scimitar and shouted, "Heavy cavalry, prepare!"
The warriors responded with a thunderous roar, but just as Lahalo was about to give the final order to charge, Garland and Loras rushed in front of him.
"No!" they shouted in unison.
Rahalo frowned: "Get out of my way! Or I'll kill you all too!"
“Please!” Garan grabbed Rahalo’s reins and pleaded, “Those are the Reach’s army, my comrades! I swear to the gods, I will persuade my father to never be an enemy of the Dothraki!”
Loras added urgently, "Velas and I will do everything in our power to make this happen!"
Whether it's friendly or not, these second-generation nobles don't have the final say. Lahalo knows very well that this battle has to be fought regardless of whether it succeeds or not.
Rahalo flung Garan's hand away, drew his scimitar, and held it to Garan's neck. The latter, feeling the cold blade, calmly closed his eyes.
"Damn it!" Rahalo spat out, "Trying to pull this on me, huh?"
Then, with a slight exertion of force, a thin line of blood trickled down Garan's neck. Zheko rode up, placed a large hand on Rahalo's wrist, and shook his head at him.
Just as tensions were about to rise, a clear female voice rang out: "Rahalo! Stop!"
Everyone looked in the direction of the sound and saw two riders galloping towards them amidst the dust. One was Lazar, and the other was Margaret!
Margaret wore a dark green velvet riding outfit, her brown curly hair flying in the wind, and her large, doe-like eyes gleaming with determination.
"Stop fighting!" she shouted again, spurring her horse straight into the front lines of the two armies.
Upon seeing Margaret, Lahalo's expression softened considerably. He raised his hand, signaling the heavy cavalry to halt their charge.
Rather than trusting Garland and Loras, it's better to trust Margaret's influence with Lady Thorn, since it's well known that women have always been in charge in Highgarden.
Margaery first glanced at the unconscious Renly, then turned to Landau and shouted:
"Lord Landau, your king's fate is currently unknown. Is it appropriate to wage war at this time?"
She turned to Rahalo, a hint of longing flashing in her eyes.
“Rahalo, I’m taking Renly back to Stormlands. Thank the gods, he’s still alive.” She winked at Rahalo, a sly glint in her eyes.
Lahalo immediately understood what she meant.
If Renly dies, according to the laws of Westeros, Stormlands will belong to Stannis.
Now, as Renly's queen, Margaery can act as the de facto ruler of Stormlands when he is unable to rule.
This would stabilize the situation, prevent Stannis from seizing Stormlands, and also prevent the two lords and the Dothraki from clashing again—a triple win.
However, every gain has its loss; Margaret will not be able to live with Laharo.
Actually, this isn't insurmountable, because he has the Red Dragon Express!
Rahalo paused for a moment, then asked, "Are you sure this is your choice?"
Margaery nodded firmly. "This is the only choice, and I must do it." She fought back tears that were about to spill from her eyes. "We all have our own destinies. As long as Renly is alive, I am the Regent Queen of Stormlands, and I must defend the land."
The two looked into each other's eyes, and a thousand words were unspoken.
Then, Margaret turned to the lords and chieftains of the Stormlands and proclaimed, "Gentlemen, His Majesty is gravely wounded and unconscious. According to the law, I will temporarily assume the regency. Are you willing to pledge your allegiance to me?"
The rear ranks of the army were completely silent.
The nobles of Stormland looked at each other, none daring to be the first to speak.
After all, Margaret was still too young and a woman, so ultimately it was difficult for her to win people's hearts.
“I am your queen!” Margaret raised her voice. “His Majesty Renly’s fate is unknown, and I have the responsibility and the right to govern Stormlands on his behalf!”
Still no response.
Undeterred, Margaery continued, “I know what you’re hesitating about. But think about it: Stannis is watching us from the north of Stormlands, and the Lannisters are pressing us from the west. We need unity, we need a leader who can rally people, and I will show you that I am that kind of leader!”
Finally, Roland Storm was the first to dismount and kneel on one knee: "Nightsong City is willing to pledge its allegiance to you, Your Majesty!"
Brienne also knelt on one knee. "I, Brienne Tass, the Blue Guard and Standard-Bearer, pledge my allegiance to you on behalf of the Hall of Multitude!"
With one person taking the lead, the other nobles also dismounted and knelt on one knee to pay their respects.
Soon, the entire Stormlands army knelt down in a flurry, swearing allegiance to Margaret.
