Game of Thrones: I am Dothraki, not a barbarian
Chapter 151 Littlefinger is scared
Chapter 151 Littlefinger is scared
"I am aware of the identity of my friend in King's Landing," Rahallo stated bluntly in his letter. "Lord Petyr Baelish, who would have thought that the Kingdom's Treasurer would be secretly colluding with the barbarians of the steppes?"
Littlefinger locked the door, poured himself a glass of Dorn red wine, and drank it all in one gulp, trying to calm his racing heart.
In his letter, Lahallo mentioned details of the Battle of Pentos and speculations about the deaths of Robert and Eddard.
The official news is that the Duke of Stark was seriously injured, fell into the water, and went missing, but Laharlal is convinced that his death was no accident.
Laharlal is convinced that Eddard Stark discovered the Lannister secret before his death: the King's three children were not Robert's.
Robert designated Joffrey as his successor in his will, but Eddard altered the will and installed Stannis as king. Jaime Lannister discovered this, killed Stannis, and faked Stannis's serious injury and drowning.
Lahallo even knew details like Ed changing "my son Joffrey" to "my rightful heir" in the will.
It wasn't just speculation; it was as if I had seen it with my own eyes!
This is pretty much in line with his guess, but details like this are completely beyond his ability to predict, and he couldn't do it either!
The letter also stated: "If you can successfully instigate the conflict between the lions and wolves and weaken the Seven Kingdoms, when my Targaryen army lands in Westeros, you will be rewarded with the title of Duke of Casterly Rock and Warden of the West."
He never believed anyone's promises, including those of the ambitious Dothraki Kao.
However, first Pentos, then Corhol, Lahalo's conquests have progressed far faster than expected. When the time is right to land in Westeros, it will likely become another "Aegon the Conqueror."
His promise was practically set in stone.
Casterly Rock was indeed tempting, especially for someone of his humble origins.
In any case, starting a war is actually quite simple; all you need to do is slightly modify Laharlal's idea and repeat it to Robb Stark.
And that's exactly what he was planning to do.
"Give my greetings to Lord Varys; you two can cooperate well," Lahalo wrote at the end of the letter. "Looking forward to your reply, dear Littlefinger. By the way, both females are now widows, so your chances are good, but I think Casterly Rock is in greater interest, isn't it?"
Little Finger looked down and was surprised to find that his hands were still trembling slightly. He poured himself another glass of wine and drank it all in one gulp.
His schemes were exposed before Lahalo!
He recalled Varis's meaningful look in Parliament, and a chill ran down his spine.
Sincere cooperation?
The word "sincere cooperation" doesn't exist in his dictionary!
If Varys is indeed Lahallo's intelligence source, then he has been completely exposed to their surveillance, and there may be more than just Varys as an informant, which would seriously threaten his safety in King's Landing.
...
The next morning, Littlefinger arrived early at the Royal Council Hall. He had slept poorly; Rahalo's letter hung over his head like a sword, keeping him awake all night.
As he passed by his brothel on Silk Street, he made a point of stopping to say a few words.
His girls, Ayaya, Dancy, and "Sweetheart" Megan, gathered a lot of interesting information last night, all of which they had heard while serving the nobles.
Brothels are always fertile ground for intelligence, as people are often most relaxed after sexual intercourse and dare to say anything.
Ayaya was his smartest girl. Her skin was as dark as velvet, and her figure was slender yet voluptuous. Compared to the average Japanese girl from the Summer Islands, she was well-educated and could even read and write several languages.
Littlefinger deliberately sent her to get close to Tyrion, just to gather his little secrets.
However, Tyrion's affection for Ayaya far exceeded his expectations; he went to her room every day, or at least let others see him enter her room.
But Tyrion turned and went to Shae, a military officer. He thought he was being secretive, but little did he know that Shae was also one of his Littlefinger's men.
All it takes is for Shae to shout "Wow, my Lannister giant!" after Tyrion has finished his business, and he'll be completely captivated.
Cersei and Tyrion are locked in a power struggle, and she's trying to find fault with Tyrion, seemingly mistakenly believing Ayaya to be his lover. Littlefinger, however, is more concerned with the royal council than the trivial matters of the brothel.
He wore a dark green satin coat embroidered with a mockingbird in silver thread, and the coat was also scented with mint leaves, giving it a fresh scent.
Upon entering the hall, Grand Secretary Paisell was already seated in his place, the heavy academic necklace around his neck swaying gently with his movements.
Joffrey rarely comes, and Cersei hasn't arrived yet, which is normal. She has never been interested in getting up early; the evening is her most wonderful time.
Besides the two Lannister men, there were even the three Kate Black brothers; who knows if they all slept with her together.
Even the famous Frey house doorman, Ari, is no better; anyone can get through Cersei's door as long as they're of use to her.
Littlefinger caught a whiff of a sweet, cloying scent, his gaze sweeping across the conference table before settling on Varys's obese figure.
The eunuch was speaking in hushed tones to Tyrion Lannister, a fawning smile plastered on his face. When he looked up and their eyes met, a glint of something unreadable flashed in his small eyes.
In an instant, a murderous intent surged in Littlefinger's heart.
If Varys could be eliminated, his situation in King's Landing would be much safer.
But reason quickly prevailed over impulse. Killing Jon Arryn was not difficult, but Varys was much more difficult to deal with.
This needs to be considered in the long term.
"Good morning, lords." Littlefinger, with his usual flippant smile, walked to his seat. "The Red Keep is quite lively today. I saw at least five high lords' banners flying outside."
Varys nodded to him, his voice high-pitched, “The various families all want to make their stance clear during this turbulent time.”
"Shall we wait for Her Majesty the Empress Dowager?" Littlefinger asked.
"My sister will be here soon."
Tyrion's heterochromatic eyes scrutinized him; the dwarf wore a burgundy blouse with a King's Hand brooch pinned to his chest.
“Before that, Your Excellency the Chancellor,” he asked, “could you perhaps tell us if the treasury still has enough gold to support the daily lives of the people of King’s Landing? The price of bread in the city has increased tenfold.”
Just as Littlefinger was about to answer, the door suddenly opened, and Cersei and Jaime Lannister walked into the meeting room together.
Cersei wore a deep red dress embroidered with gold thread and a golden crown on her head. Jaime, on the other hand, wore a white robe with the white knight's insignia gleaming on his chest.
"My lords," Cersei said coldly, "I hope today's meeting will yield substantial progress. Those commoners are becoming increasingly lawless; no matter how many we kill, more will spring up. It's utterly unbearable!"
Everyone rose to their feet, and Cersei and Jaime took their seats at the head of the table.
“We need to strengthen our defenses,” James said. “Stannis’ supporters are taking advantage of the soaring prices in the city to commit crimes.”
“The situation is not good,” Varys’s sweet voice rang out. “The people are throwing stones at the Golden Robe, and a Golden Robe has had his throat slit near the flea nest.”
Yesterday, three bakeries were looted, a fish market riot broke out, and three vendors were beaten to death by the crowd. Now, many people can't even afford brown soup.
“My dear sister, just letting you know,” Tyrion interjected, “Stannis’s fleet has blockaded the Blackwater River, cutting off the sea route to Dorne. Princess Myrcella will have to travel to Dorne by land.”
Just then, James suddenly stood up, nearly tipping his chair over. "Are you sure?"
Tyrion casually replied, "Don't worry, Jaime, Renly's army is currently holed up in Highgarden, and the Reach is quite peaceful right now."
"Damn it! The Blood Troupe!" Jaime turned and glared at Cersei. "Get the men ready immediately. I'm bringing Myrcella back!"
