Chapter 162 The Theater
Chapter 162 The Theater
"Stop right there, don't even think about running. No evil will ever be able to hide."
"You killed Billy, and what cruel things do you intend to do to his hundred brothers and sisters?"
"Don't even think about lying, I already know everything."
Just as Jamie was explaining the intelligence he had gathered at the hotel entrance, Officer Lipton, who had been secretly watching him, showed up at the door.
Or rather, he came to visit. He was staying in the room next door; after all, the town had declined, and there was only one hotel left.
The door is blocked; there's no other way.
Does this mean Jamie is about to be arrested and imprisoned?
Impossible, absolutely impossible.
Having found hope for revenge, Jamie would not simply surrender. He would use all his wisdom and perseverance to seek an opportunity to rebel.
The flaw is fleeting.
Jamie found an opening in Lipton's defense and was about to charge forward, push Lipton aside, and then get in the car to meet up at Lost Lake.
But a steady hand landed on his shoulder. Jamie turned around in surprise, only to see Baling shake his head, then walk past him and stand in front of the officer.
"Give me some face, and we can team up to investigate the truth."
"Your face?"
"Officer, you may not know my name, but you may have heard of my deeds."
Officer Lipton paused for a moment, quickly going through the names of notorious criminals in his mind, but still couldn't find one who matched Baling's appearance.
"Who are you? I don't know you. Even if you are the son of some high-ranking official, I will not bend the law for personal gain. I am a principled police officer, not the scum you think I am."
Lipton stood firm, stating that he wouldn't fall for any of those networking tactics.
Helpless, Baling could only be blunt: "I don't recognize them at all. Did the village just get internet access? Have you seen the recent cannibal incident? I was in the center of the MVP settlement screen."
Cannibals? Lipton was aware of the latest hot news reports.
After Baling mentioned it, Lipton actually remembered.
Thinking back carefully, there really was such a handsome man who matched Baling's appearance perfectly, and the female companion next to him also matched Maria.
"Oh! It's you!" Lipton suddenly realized, but instead of making way, he tightened his grip on the shackles and said, "Then I need to control you even more. It's not too late to stay away from him now so you don't go astray."
You're so stubborn, you won't listen to reason!
Soft ones are not enough, so hard ones are the only option.
Baling took a quick step to close the distance, followed by a powerful lean. Lipton was hit as if by a speeding electric scooter. In an instant, his stance was disrupted, and he lost his balance and fell awkwardly to the side.
"There's no time to say more, get in the car quickly."
Baling rushed out quickly, then leaped up and smoothly jumped into the front seat of the car, with Maria following closely behind.
Jamie was a beat slower, but Lipton was old and got up slowly. As Jamie ran past, he couldn't help but give him another push, delaying him for a few seconds.
"You dare assault a police officer! Don't run, I'll definitely catch you, Jamie! And you two, neither of you are getting away!"
Furious at failing to catch the culprit, Lipton yelled at the car as it started to move.
Before setting off, Baling turned back and shouted, "Officer, if you have the courage, come along. I'll show you some surprises you've never seen before, more exciting than cannibals."
We drove eastward toward our destination—Lost Lake.
The night was damp, and a thick white fog obscured the view.
Carrying a small oil lamp, the three boarded a small boat and, as the oars parted the lake water, swayed and staggered towards the shore. A tall building stood before them—the long-abandoned grand theater.
Inside the theater, cobwebs were condensed, the floor was covered with a thick layer of dust, and a damp, musty, and unpleasant smell wafted into the nostrils.
In the pitch-black environment, only the light from the small oil lamp in my hand illuminated a tiny area.
The theater's interior was cleverly designed and spacious, making it a perfect place to watch a major performance, but unfortunately it has been abandoned.
Beyond the central stands is a large red curtain.
It is said that Mary Shaw is hiding in this place, which was where she lived during her life, and where she often stayed after her death.
There was nothing worth seeing in the lobby on the first floor, and clearly Mary Shaw wasn't there.
"Master, should we go up?" Jamie asked Baling for his advice.
"No! Let's wait a bit. If that officer barges in alone, he might get killed. Then, we'll be held responsible."
Baling didn't rush to deal with Mary Shaw because the place had a strong ghostly atmosphere, very similar to the remnants of the puppet Billy, so this grand theater was very likely Mary Shaw's hiding place.
Even if they aren't, they must be closely related.
With enough relevant information, Baling could easily find the true identity, because Mary Shaw was not a powerful ghost.
"Should we ambush him? Isn't that too risky?" Jamie worried that their good intentions might backfire and they'd get shot.
"Don't worry, nothing will happen." With that, Baling turned around and looked toward the theater entrance.
Officer Lipton, holding a shotgun, had already arrived at the door.
We must take strong measures to deal with dangerous citizens who dare to attack police officers.
Lipton spotted Baling and his gang waiting for him at a glance, and he was puzzled and surprised by Baling's audacity.
This is no joke. With a troll in hand, if anyone dares to jokingly barge in again, he won't hold back to ensure their safety.
“Sir, don’t be so tense. I’m doing this for your own good. What you’re about to face is no ordinary thing. Bullets won’t work well, and they won’t save your life. Putting down your gun and pointing it at a human body is really unfriendly.”
Baling walked over step by step, seemingly full of flaws.
Pulling the trigger would send the whole person flying, but Lipton only gave a verbal warning:
"That's enough. Don't come any closer. What exactly do you want? Ordinary citizens should act like ordinary citizens and not do anything unnecessary. Just come back with us obediently, and we will find out the truth naturally."
Baling was still getting closer, seemingly certain that Lipton wouldn't dare fire, but he won.
Lipton wasn't crazy enough to shoot a citizen who hadn't launched an attack, especially one who had just been featured in the news for fighting evil.
If that shot were fired, Lipton's life would be over.
"The truth will be revealed soon."
When Baling saw Lipton put down his gun, he understood that the officer had compromised and was willing to give them a chance to see what they really wanted.
If they continue to argue that the murders were caused by ghosts, Lipton will simply look at them as idiots and forcefully handcuff them.
"Let's go deeper into the area."
Having temporarily resolved the police officer's entanglement, Baling took the lead and ventured deeper into the area.
