Chapter 88 Field Mission
The office blinds cut the sunlight into fine stripes. Professor Manstein sat upright behind his desk, his face ashen. Gu Yi had just pushed open the door when his pupils contracted slightly as he was struck by the sight of the exam papers spread out on the desk.

"Explain." The head of the disciplinary committee tapped the test paper heavily with his fingertips. "Longwen's midterm exam score: 90 points. You're first in your class."

The boy stood slightly stiffly: "Is there a problem?"

"What's the problem?" Manstein suddenly stood up. "You only got a high score of 47 on your two previous quizzes! Now tell me, how do you get a 90 on the midterm?"

"Perhaps... you were in better form during the exam, so you guessed more accurately?" Gu Yi's voice rose slightly at the end.

"You guessed right? There aren't any multiple-choice questions on the whole paper, what were you guessing for?!" Manstein was furious. He grabbed the test paper and shook it loudly. "Question three! Do it again now."

Gu Yi lowered his eyes and stared at the distorted characters, then said dismissively, "I can't do it."

The head of the disciplinary committee forcibly suppressed his anger: "Tell me if it was Fingel or not."

Gu Yi raised his head. "I don't know what you're talking about. I wrote all these answers myself."

"you…"

The door suddenly opened again, and Guderian, his white hair flying in the air due to static electricity, squeezed through the crack. "Manstein, are you busy?"

Manstein turned to the intruder: “You’ve come at the perfect time! Look at your good student!” The exam paper was flung around with a clatter, stopping just two centimeters from Guderian’s nose.

Guderian's blue eyes swept over the score column: "Oh dear, he only got 90 points? Professor Pacino even praised him last time." Before he could finish speaking, he was interrupted by a loud shout.

"Do you know he cheated?!" Manstein's neck flushed dark red, and the veins on his forehead throbbed.

"What cheating? How is that cheating?" Guderian suddenly straightened his hunched back. "When doesn't an S-class student do something strange? Maybe they'll suddenly master one technique during those ninety minutes of the exam!"

Manstein took a half step back, his mouth agape in disbelief: "Do you want to hear what you're saying?"

"Oh, Gerd, these details are completely unimportant. The Executive Bureau needs to see him now!"

"The Enforcement Bureau?" The head of the Disciplinary Committee suddenly pressed his throbbing temples. "What is Schneider up to now?"

"Please! That's Schneider!" Guderian grabbed Gu Yi's sleeve and dragged him out the door. "Would he notify me beforehand what he's planning to do? We should just obey orders."

The moment the door closed, Guderian pressed his ear against it for two seconds, then abruptly pulled Gu Yi back against the wall in the corridor: "How did you do that?"

“Fingal gave it to me,” Gu Yi replied softly.

"Hiss—" Guderian gasped, slapping the boy's shoulder hard. "This course is quite difficult. Why did you think of getting such a high score? A score of seventy or eighty would have been more than enough."

Gu Yi rubbed his numb back: "I thought the average score would be much higher this time, but who knew they were all just pretending..."

"What? You mean Fingel sold the answers to the whole class?" Guderian's eyes widened in disbelief.

"The vast majority." Gu Yi nodded.

The sound of the door opening interrupted their conversation. The two jumped back as if electrocuted, and saw Manstein standing in the doorway, his eyes fixed on them. "Gu Yi, let's talk about this after the Execution Department's mission is over."

Guderian dragged the student away in the opposite direction, saying, "Hey, I'll come find you for dinner later!"

The two of them fled the scene as if they were escaping.

As Gu Yi walked through the corridor, the burly men on the chairs all looked up.

"The S-rank has come to collect the mission card?"

"I heard you did incredibly well on the Dragon Script exam this time?"

Amidst the rising and falling cheers, Gu Yi waved. He used this gesture, somewhere between a greeting and a perfunctory one, to weave through the crowd and push open the door to Schneider's office.

Schneider sat in his wheelchair, his breathing mask gleaming with a cold metallic sheen: "Here you are."

"What do you need me to do?" Gu Yi closed the door behind him. The executive director pulled a document from the mess on the table. "Since the Baltimore incident, we have destroyed most of the Sinaloa Group. But their core management team has disappeared, and most of the members we killed and captured were ordinary humans, with very few hybrids."

Gu Yi opened the file and pulled out a photo. The image showed a Mexican man crouching on top of an armored vehicle, cleaning his gun; a grotesque cross-shaped scar on his left cheek. "Rodrigo Salgado? What's his position in the Sinaloa Group?"

"Commander of the Crimson Serpent Force, Word of Power Sequence 71: Ghost Victory."

Gu Yi pulled out the photo and examined it carefully. "Such a high-ranking position? How come you didn't catch him in the early stages?"

“The intelligence is wrong. He’s not in the United States at all.” The executive director pulled a map from the mess on the table and pointed his finger at the coordinates of Mexico City. “He’s currently hiding under the protection of the local gang, the ‘Fang’.”

"When should I leave?"

"Today," Schneider tossed the sealed file bag onto the edge of the table, "you're alone. Norma has already arranged for you to take the day off."

Gu Yi's hands, which were arranging photos, suddenly stopped. "Aren't Caesar and my senior brother coming?"

“You will carry it out alone. The local operations team will assist you. Remember, we need you alive.”

"May I ask why?"

"He has important intelligence on him. You will arrive in Mexico City before 11 p.m. today. The operation will begin around 3 p.m."

"Ok."

Gu Yi grabbed the paper bag and was about to leave when Schneider suddenly raised his hand, "Wait a minute."

The boy stopped between the half-open door and the light from the corridor slanted across his profile.

"I'll assign you an assistant," Schneider said.

"Who?"

"Vivian."

Gu Yi's hand on the doorknob tightened suddenly. "Senior Sister?"

"She's in charge of supporting you this time. What? Do you need me to replace her? If you don't want to, you can replace her with someone else."

"No, but I remember that my senior sister rarely went on field missions, right?"

"Yes, so she's only responsible for supporting you. You're still in charge of the actual operations."

"Understood." Before the door could be reassembled, the Time Zero domain had already enveloped him and disappeared around the corner of the corridor.

Fifteen minutes later, a cell phone glowed in the shade of the oak tree below dormitory B2.

"Hello?" The girl's voice was mixed with the crisp sound of biscuits breaking.

"Senior sister, get ready for fieldwork." Gu Yi looked up at the window on the third floor.

"Huh?" The sound of rustling fabric and overturned items came through the receiver. "What's wrong? Why do we suddenly have to go out on fieldwork?"

"Professor Schneider just arranged this. Now get ready," Gu Yi said.

"Wait, wait! Wait for me a moment, where are we going, and what clothes should I bring?" Vivian asked anxiously.

"We're going to Mexico City, so don't bring anything too thick."

"Okay! Wait a minute! Give me ten minutes." The girl hung up the phone after saying that.
