Chapter 50 The storm is coming
"Maxim, what color do you like?"
The boy huddled in the bottom bunk, the blanket wrapped around his thin shoulders. "I don't know."
The iron bed suddenly groaned, and a few strands of long black hair dangled from the upper bunk. The girl leaned out, hanging upside down. "I don't know what color I like, but I hate white."
The boy looked up at her upside-down face and asked, "Why?"
"Because everything here is white, the school, the walls, the bed sheets. Even the nutrients are a damn milky white." She tilted her head and saw a blizzard howling outside the window.
“Because it’s only winter here,” the boy replied.
The girl turned over and jumped down, stepping barefoot on the cold floor tiles.
"I prefer summer." She sat down next to the boy
"Have you ever seen summer?"
"I haven't seen it," she said, resting her forehead against the foggy glass, the melted ice running down the bridge of her nose, "but we will see."
.
"Gu Yi! Gu Yi!"
Gu Yi suddenly woke up when he heard Caesar's deliberately lowered voice.
"Get up, let's go back to the hotel and sleep later." Caesar released the hand that was grabbing his collar.
Gu Yi propped himself up on the sofa and straightened up. He now had a splitting headache. "What time is it now? How long have I slept?"
"Five in the morning." Caesar shook his cracked phone, the blue light reflecting the scratch on his brow bone. "You just slept for a little over an hour."
Walker walked in, stepping on a floor covered in broken glass. The hem of the executive team leader's black windbreaker was stained with asphalt. "We've cleaned up the mess. I'll arrange a car to take you back to the hotel."
"Which hotel?" Caesar bent down and picked up the Desert Eagle. The silver coating curled up like a snake's skin in the morning light.
"The Peninsula Chicago," Walker replied.
Caesar raised his eyebrows, "It's a nice place, I've lived there before."
Walker turned to leave, but was stopped at the door by Caesar's hunting knife sheath. Dick Lado lay across the mottled door frame.
"I have a question," Caesar's sea-blue eyes shone coldly in the morning mist, "What was that injection that Carl had received?"
The executive team leader's back froze for half a second, "I don't know."
"But that thing catalyzed its bloodline and further pushed it to become a dragon." Gu Yi stood up holding the handle of the Qinghe Sword.
Walker turned his head and said, "Once we investigate thoroughly, you will know."
"Is this some kind of alchemical product?" Caesar continued to ask.
"That's not something the intern specialist should be concerned about." Walker shook his head. "Your work has been done, and it's been done well."
Gu Yi suddenly stumbled and held onto the toppled antique display case. He pressed his temples and said, "That injection. I saw the medicine in the time zero field. The color was dark red. It looked like..."
"Let's go first." Caesar suddenly grabbed his wrist with surprising force.

Schneider leaned against the edge of his mahogany desk, fingers rubbing his chin. "Catalyst?" He frowned. "That's impossible." Walker stood where the shadows met. "This situation may be more complex than expected."
"What are the autopsy results?"
"The technical team is currently performing an autopsy on Miller's body." Walker held the file bag under his elbow and continued, "We can wait for the report."
"It's probably useless." Schneider sneered hoarsely, "If you dare to release it, you won't be afraid of us investigating."
Outside the glass curtain wall, purple lightning split the clouds, instantly illuminating the half-rotten world tree emblem hanging on the office wall.
Walker remained silent, obviously agreeing with this statement.
Schneider waved his hand and said, "Let's not talk about this for now. How are the two newcomers performing?"
"César Gattuso met expectations and received an A tactical grade," Walker said.
"Where's Gu Yi?"
"Very good, scary good. Are you sure this is his fourth time in combat?"
Schneider laughed. "These are young people worth looking forward to. How are their words and spirits performing?"
"Caesar's potential is yet to be developed, and as for Gu Yi..." Walker turned on the TV. In the screen, Gu Yi's afterimage was turning at an exaggerated angle, and the cold light of the long sword wove a spider web of death in the slow-motion shot.
"Godspeed is really an excessive hegemony in combat."
Schneider's smile deepened. "Walker, some of our Word Spirits are hybrids of Setsuna. But without exception, their incredible speed is accompanied by tremendous inertia. The faster they go, the greater the strain on their bodies, making it difficult for them to execute smooth tactical maneuvers."
His eyes reflected a hint of amusement. "But Time Zero is different. It allows the user to do whatever they want even at extreme speeds. This is also the principal's greatest strength."
Walker's eyes swept across the rainstorm outside the window, and a dull sound of approval emanated from his throat: "Let's wait for his subsequent development of the Word Spirit."
"So we need to give them more opportunities to practice." Schneider suddenly straightened up. "They will be going out on missions quite often in the future, and Chu Zihang will be no different."
Walker's black gloves wrinkled the edge of the file bag. "Forgive my presumptuousness, but isn't this training pace too hasty?"
"Walker, from the post-war period until 1988, how many dragon-related incidents occurred globally each year?" Without waiting for Walker's response, he said, "The highest number was no more than thirty."
"But it skyrocketed to triple digits in the 1990s, and has intensified even further in the new century. Do you know how many dragon-related incidents were recorded worldwide in 2007?" Schneider stared at Walker. "1247—and that doesn't even include areas with weak or no governments. We have to prepare for the worst, and that number will continue to rise."
The half-rotten World Tree on Walker's chest flickered in the lightning: "Excuse me, sir, our current combat power..."
"Kassel's new generation is indeed getting stronger, and Tianji's joining has greatly relieved the pressure. Even if the number doubles, I think we can hold on." Schneider suddenly interrupted his subordinate, "But the signs of the Dragon King's awakening have appeared. We don't have much time."
The office fell into a dead silence, with only the sound of rain roaring outside the glass. Suddenly, the pendulum clock on the wall struck the time, and the sound of gears meshing awakened the frozen air.
"I understand, sir," Walker said, standing at attention.
