Hogwarts: Don't call me Wandmaker
Chapter 457 Disarming Curse
Chapter 457 Disarming Curse
The ground was still covered with a layer of glistening water droplets after the rain. People could easily get their shoes and socks wet if they weren't careful when walking on it.
Nobody likes going out to class at times like this, but Defense Against the Dark Arts is an exception.
After leaving the castle, the fifth-year students of Gryffindor and Hufflepuff arrived at a fenced-off clearing and looked excitedly at Sirius Black at the front.
"How does it feel...not bad, right?" Sirius said to Harry with a smile. "I specifically asked Hagrid to help me choose the most suitable spot. There's plenty of space here, and the grass is soft, so even if you fall, you won't get hurt."
He stomped hard on the grass, splashing up a small patch of water.
Then he had everyone stand in a line.
"I was originally planning to have you all take a dueling lesson, but I just realized that grouping you is a big problem," Sirius said. "So I've decided to try a different approach—how about a little test?"
A chorus of disappointed complaints arose from the crowd.
"Oh? Another test? It's one thing for Snape to be like this, but why is Sirius also being tested?" Ron's voice was the loudest.
"I think I just heard the name Severus Snape." Sirius raised his eyebrows slightly, his face showing undisguised sarcasm and disdain.
"Kids, I must remind you, never compare me to that snotty-nosed guy. In my opinion, that's the most offensive swear word... Just hearing that name makes me sick."
Several Gryffindors nodded subconsciously, completely agreeing with this statement. Their goodwill towards Sirius Black instantly rose even higher.
“Of course, my tests can’t be as…boring as his,” Sirius said, and another burst of laughter erupted around them.
"Expelliarmus!" Sirius raised his hand and waved it gently, and Harry's wand fell into his hand.
“This spell should be familiar to you, right? Professor Flitwick told me you learned it in the dueling club in your second year.” He asked, “Can anyone tell me what this spell is?”
Hermione was the first to raise her hand.
“Very good, Miss Granger.”
“This is a disarming charm, Professor,” Hermione said quickly. “It makes the opponent’s wand slip out of their control.”
“Absolutely right, ten points for Gryffindor,” Sirius said happily.
"So you're going to teach us this spell?" someone asked.
“If you need it, it’s not impossible, but it might take a while,” Sirius said. “In this lesson, I’m going to use the Disarming Charm on you. With just this one spell, you can use any method to stop me, including the Killing Curse.”
“If I remember correctly, Alastor Moody taught you this spell last year.”
“Professor, that’s illegal!” Dean Thomas said.
“In my class, you don’t need to consider any rules or regulations,” Sirius said with a smile. “Besides, with your current strength, the killing curse you release probably wouldn’t even be able to make me bleed a little.”
He thought he had told a very funny joke, but no one laughed along with him.
No one would use an unforgivable curse on a professor in class, not even Fred and George.
“Well, you guys are really boring.” Sirius sighed, somewhat disappointed. “Then let’s continue with what we were saying. From now on, you’ll need to do everything you can to protect your wands.”
"I will roughly judge your strength based on the level of resistance, so that we can better group you up in the next class. After all, if the difference in strength is too great, there is no point in dueling."
"Now, line up quickly!"
Harry was the fastest; Sirius had barely finished speaking when he was already in the front row. Ron and Hermione were second and fifth, respectively. Sirius was a bit slower; by the time he joined the line, there were already more than a dozen people ahead of him.
“Very good, since Harry Potter was the first to respond to the professor, Gryffindor gets another ten points,” Sirius said, returning Harry’s wand to him.
“Are you ready, Harry?” he asked.
“No problem, Professor…” Harry said.
"Except your weapons!"
"Collapse!"
Because he was prepared this time, Harry's wand wasn't immediately taken away as it had been before.
A pre-prepared Stunning Charm and Sirius's Disarming Charm crossed paths in mid-air.
"Well done, Harry." Sirius tilted his head slightly to avoid it.
But Harry on the other side wasn't so lucky. Unable to stop the Disarming Charm, he could only bend over and roll on the ground to barely avoid the red light.
Sirius Black wasn't in a hurry; he waited until Sirius had stood up again before raising his wand once more.
"Except your weapons!"
"Except your weapons!"
Two identical red lights met in the air, sparking intensely. Harry suddenly felt his arm vibrate as if it were electrified. He could only grip his wand even tighter, trying to push the spell toward Sirius's side.
"Hehe." Sirius chuckled lightly, flicked his wrist upwards, and the two spells separated.
Harry had no idea what was happening.
Due to a lack of control, his spell went completely off course and disappeared into the sky, while Sirius's spell continued to fly towards him.
The next second, Harry felt his hand loosen, and his wand flew high into the air, spinning as it landed in Sirius's hand.
"That's too big of a move, and too slow." Sirius Black didn't laugh this time, but looked at Harry seriously and said, "Why are you doing somersaults? Didn't Alastor teach you how to use your wand to block spells last year? He told me that was in your first lesson last year!"
"Do you know that when you're facing a dark wizard, you've already been killed ten times over by the time you do a somersault?"
"Yes, I'm sorry." Harry lowered his head, feeling utterly ashamed.
After Sirius's comment, he realized that his rolling around on the ground earlier had been a bit silly. But in that situation, he didn't have time to think about that; it was the fastest way.
As for the little trick Professor Moody mentioned... when he faced the disarming spell, his mind went blank, and he completely forgot about it, instinctively trying to dodge.
"Well, it's not bad." Sirius's expression relaxed a little, and he continued, "In my opinion, you just lack a little experience, which happens to be what I'm going to teach you."
"Go and rest, next one!"
Harry assumed Sirius was trying to comfort him, forced a smile, and silently walked outside the fence.
