Hogwarts: Don't call me Wandmaker
Chapter 436 Grigorovich
Chapter 436 Grigorovich
The sudden surge in popularity of the wand was unexpected not only by Siron but also by Garrick Ollivander.
Lately, he's been receiving letters from owls all over the world almost every day. Almost every wandmaker, including Gregorovitch, has been asking him if he's found a special technique to make wand cores from wizards' hair.
In response, Garrick could only patiently write the same reply letter after another, telling them that there was no special craftsmanship involved, and that it was just a small, insignificant talent of Siron Ollivander.
"Ha, a talent that's not worth mentioning?"
In a wand shop on Walharla Lane in Berlin, Germany, Grigorovich angrily threw a piece of parchment on the ground and stomped on it several times, still not satisfied.
"Showing off, that old bastard Ollivander is just showing off!"
Grigorovich felt a surge of anger. The last time he was this angry was decades ago when a cunning little fellow sneaked into his shop and stole a special wand.
But besides being angry, he also had a faint sense of anticipation that time.
Because he had a feeling... that special wand had found its true owner.
So even though Grigorovich knew who stole the wand and where it was, he never thought of getting it back.
But this time was different; he really wanted to kick Ollivander's backside hard with his newly made handcrafted leather shoes.
So what if he has a good grandson? What's there to be proud of!
Furthermore, the practice of customizing wands based on different wizards' personalities and magical characteristics actually contradicts Ollivander's philosophy. Therefore, it's impossible that he taught them.
But thinking about it that way, Grigorovich seemed even angrier.
“What’s there to be proud of in an old man who reaps the benefits without sowing!” he said angrily, stomping hard on the parchment again.
“No, I have to go check it out.” Grigorovich narrowed his eyes.
Of course, he wasn't going to cause trouble for Xilun.
Although Siron did steal some of the visitors, the number was not large, and most of the wizards didn't really need to buy wands, so it didn't have a significant impact on him.
Grigorovich was simply too curious; he wanted to know what was so special about wands made from wizard hair, and whether they could become widespread.
If possible, this could be a significant reform for the entire magical world.
……
Meanwhile, at Ollivanders wand shop in Diagon Alley, England.
In fact, Garrick was not as pleased as Grigorovich had imagined; on the contrary, he was feeling rather complicated.
“Please don’t misunderstand, Mr. Ollivander,” a middle-aged wizard said, standing in front of Siron but looking at Garrick on the other side.
“I definitely prefer the wand you made. It has been with me for almost thirty years. We are the closest comrades-in-arms.”
"But I recently met a fortune teller who said that if I spend fifty Galleons today, Green will be sorted into Ravenclaw. You know, my whole family is Ravenclaw, so that's very important to us."
"More importantly, we only spent twenty Galleons today, can you understand that?"
“I think I understand now.” Garrick sighed… What a load of rubbish fortune teller! Hogwarts Sorting House is all about the hat, not how many Galleons you spend in a day.
To put it bluntly, they just wanted to buy Xiren's wand, so they came up with this excuse.
That's right, Siron isn't just robbing other countries' wand markets anymore; he's not even letting him off the hook. This is the third new student to be snatched away in the last few days.
Fortunately, Siron has not yet truly taken over Ollivander's wand shop, and the wands he makes do not receive subsidies from the Ministry of Magic, so they can only be sold at the original price of thirty Galleons.
Otherwise, there would definitely be even more new recruits defecting.
For most wizarding families, thirty Galleons is not a cheap sum, especially for wizards from Muggle families, whose total wealth may not even amount to thirty Galleons.
This situation is similar for wizards in other countries; there aren't many wizards who can afford to spend thirty Galleons to buy an extra wand.
The bustling scene outside Ollivanders wand shop lasted only a few days before things gradually returned to normal.
If we were to name the person who feels the most regret, it wouldn't be Celen or Garrick, but Ron.
He had earned a full six Galleons in the past few days and was just about to make a big splash and continue his success when the line disappeared.
“How about we ask Fred and George to help us advertise again?” he suggested. “I can help you get in touch with them.”
Xilun hesitated for a moment.
For him, the more people who come, the better. This way, he can gain more of the magic of 'recognition' and thus elevate himself.
Now that Voldemort is online, this boost is crucial.
The problem now is that he's a bit overwhelmed. His grandfather, Garrick, has his own things to do, and Ron knows nothing about wands. For the past few days, he's been stuck in the shop and hasn't had time to make wands at all.
It would be even more stressful if we waited until the start of the school year, and if we accidentally missed the agreed time, it would affect our reputation.
“No need, this is just right.” Xiren shook his head, rejecting Ron’s suggestion. “If there were more people, I might not have been able to finish.”
"Alright then." Ron was a little disappointed, but he was already satisfied with earning six Galleons.
"By the way, how is Percy?" Celen asked.
“I don’t know. The Ministry of Magic forbids anyone from visiting him,” Ron said, shaking his head. “Dad said they’re just stalling for time. He also said it’s not a bad thing for Percy, at least he doesn’t have to worry about being sent to Azkaban while his memories are being examined.”
"What about Dumbledore? Has he been here?" Siron continued to ask.
Several days have passed since Harry wrote to Dumbledore, but there has been no follow-up. Dumbledore has not appeared, and Harry has not written to him again.
“Dumbledore…” Ron thought for a moment and said, “I remember he came by last week and said he wanted to discuss something with my father.”
“Do you know what it is?” Siren asked.
“I don’t know.” Ron shook his head. “Mother forbids us from causing trouble, and even Fred and George don’t know what they talked about. But I think it has something to do with Percy. Dumbledore came last time because of Percy.”
The two chatted for a few more minutes, and as it grew darker, Ron prepared to head back. On his way, he bought some gifts from Florin's Ice Cream Shop.
