Hogwarts: Don't call me Wandmaker

Chapter 406 The Unicorn in the Labyrinth

Chapter 406 The Unicorn in the Labyrinth

As several larger fireworks soared into the sky, the entire Quidditch pitch was illuminated, and everyone stared excitedly at the location of the maze entrance.

"I know you're all eager to get started, but before the third event officially begins, I must report the current scores. This is important."

Ludo Bagman said, "Sirlen Ollivander—78 points, first place, Hogwarts School! He will also be the first to enter the maze." The sudden burst of applause and cheers startled the birds in the Forbidden Forest into the night sky.

"Hibiscus Delacour - 61 points, second place, Beauxbatons Academy!" Another round of applause. "Viktor Krum - 60 points, third place, Durmstrang Academy!"

The applause wasn't as loud as before.

In the first two events, students would politely applaud and cheer for the other two warriors, but at this point, politeness seemed to become less important, and everyone was more concerned about who would win the Triple Cup in the end.

“Now… Siren, listen carefully to my whistle!” Bagman said, “Three…two…one…”

With a short whistle, Xilun rushed into the maze immediately.

In an instant, the cheers and Ludo Bagman’s shouts all disappeared, and the surroundings were as quiet as the deepest forbidden forest or the bottom of a black lake.

The tall hedges cast dark shadows on the ground, which were stretched long by the moonlight, making the entire maze almost completely dark.

Xilun took out his wand and swung it forcefully.

A unicorn emitting a soft blue light appeared five meters in front of him, dispelling the surrounding darkness.

"Wait, what's that?!" Ludo Bagman, who was about to blow his whistle again, stared wide-eyed at the sudden light that appeared in the maze.

He instinctively wanted to say something, but immediately shut his mouth when he realized that Fleur and Krum were still there.

Since Fleur and Krum can still hear the sounds outside, if he were to reveal it, it would be tantamount to exposing Xiren's actions, which would only solidify the accusation that he cheated.

But as a commentator, he couldn't pretend he didn't see it.

Fortunately, Ludo Bagman was quite experienced and quickly found a solution.

“Good heavens, I’m not seeing things, am I?” he said. “Is that something that could happen… Oh, sorry, Miss Delacour, it’s your turn.”

Another whistle blew, and Hibiscus could only suppress her curiosity for the time being and hurriedly ran into the maze.

Meanwhile, Krum, who was still outside, could hear the constant chatter coming from the stands.

Although he couldn't hear clearly because of the distance, he could vaguely make out words like unicorn...soul...

Are there unicorns in the maze?
But shouldn't these magical creatures be very docile? Why are the people in the stands reacting so strongly?

Krum became even more curious, but from his current position he couldn't see what was happening at all, so he could only try to find some useful clues from the discussions of the people in the stands.

About five minutes later, in the maze, Xiren heard Ludo Bagman blow his whistle for the third time.

By this time, he had traveled a considerable distance and arrived at the third fork in the road.

To be honest, the unicorn's soul is much more useful than the Illumination Charm, especially in terms of range; everything within at least ten meters is clearly visible.

The range of the Illumination Charm is far greater than that. More importantly, the unicorn can also help him detect any potential dangers ahead.

Siren stopped at the fork in the road, took out his wand and held it in his hand.

“Give me directions.”

The wand twirled, pointing to the gap in the hedge on the right, which led north. Cyren recalled the direction of the maze's center and his own route, then decisively turned into the gap on the left.

Next, Xilun felt more and more uneasy.

Although he wasn't on the school team, he had been to the Quidditch stadium quite often and had a general understanding of its size.

The Quidditch pitch at Hogwarts is indeed very large, but the distance from the entrance to the center is at most only about 100 meters.

More than ten minutes have passed since he came in. Logically, he should have arrived long ago, but not only has he not arrived, he has not even encountered any danger or difficulties. He has had a smooth journey, as if he is still in the outermost "safe zone".

Xilun glanced behind him instinctively, but there was nothing there. Yet he still felt as if something was watching him.

"Great, he found out!"

Outside in the stands, Hermione was waving a flag vigorously.

If you look down from her perspective, you'll see that the Quidditch pitch is still the same pitch, but the warriors inside are almost a hundred times smaller than normal people.

Xilun now looks like a chess piece in Wizard's Chess, slowly moving forward in the vast arena.

Behind him, just across a hedge, a wisp of black mist was rapidly approaching. In the blink of an eye, the black mist transformed into a test paper with a zero score.

"It's a Dementor!" Harry shouted.

“No, it’s a Boggart!” Hermione said. “A Boggart is approaching Siren.”

Ever since they noticed this, the Gryffindors around them had been on tenterhooks, shouting incessantly to try and alert Heron to what was behind him.

“He must have heard us.” Seeing Xilun suddenly turn around, Ron said happily, “I told you this method would work. As long as we shout together, he will definitely hear us.”

“Sirion obviously figured it out himself,” Hermione said irritably. “Did you think you could penetrate Dumbledore’s magic with your voice? You’re seriously underestimating him.”

“Why not?” Ron muttered. “Didn’t Siren just use the simplest method to pass Dumbledore’s age limit?”

“That’s clearly not the same thing,” Hermione said. “Look at Fleur and Krum, they didn’t react at all.”

"That... might be related to the name."

Just as the two were arguing, the Boggart in the maze had already crossed the hedge and floated to a spot less than ten meters behind Xiren.

Hermione and Ron stopped arguing and stared nervously in the direction of the maze.

"Run!" Ron shouted excitedly, "We're so close, why is Siron still standing there instead of running?"

“It’s just that we think it’s close,” Hermione said. “If we were in a maze, it would be much farther away.”

However, at that moment, everyone saw something flash in the maze.

The next second, people were astonished to find that the unicorn, which had just been acting as a "streetlight," suddenly moved swiftly in front of Boggart. Then, without the slightest hesitation, it passed straight through Boggart's body.

Like throwing a red-hot iron onto a pile of loose snow, the Boggart, which had been so menacing, melted away instantly upon contact with the transparent blue unicorn, as if it had never existed.
