Hogwarts: Don't call me Wandmaker
Chapter 280 Lupin's Past
Chapter 280 Lupin's Past
After leaving the Khan el-Khalili magic market, Siron and Lupin, following Bill's recommendation, headed to the pyramid complex, thirty miles away from the market.
“You won’t be disappointed.” Lupin looked even more expectant than Siron, his eyes sparkling despite being surrounded by dark circles.
“Professor Lupin, you seem to really like the pyramids,” Siron said.
"You could say that," Lupin said, his eyes glazing over as if lost in some memory.
"More importantly, I gained a second friendship there... a friendship from someone of my own kind?"
"The same kind?" Xiren asked. "Are they werewolves too?"
“Yes.” Lupin nodded. “Influenced by myths and legends, Egypt has always been the most tolerant country towards werewolves. Although werewolves also need to be ranked and supervised here, at least we can find a decent job.”
"Furthermore, most of the time we are not constantly being stared at by other people with strange eyes...or rather, our work does not involve contact with other living people."
"Inside the pyramids?" Siron asked.
"Yes."
"Is he a curse remover?" Siren continued to ask.
"That's right."
"Calculate?"
"Because most of the time, we just do some digging and exploration work, and we are only responsible for breaking the curse on the night of the full moon."
“On the night of the full moon…” Xiren frowned, “But shouldn’t you have turned into a werewolf then?”
“That’s the crux of the matter,” Lupin said calmly. “Actually, the magic left in the pyramids isn’t very powerful; it’s mostly various curses. But that’s more dangerous because there are almost thousands of these curses, and each one is deadly.”
“But it is precisely for this reason…” Lupin looked into the distance, took a deep breath, and then continued, “Werewolves are probably the most terrifying curse in the magical world, so when we completed our transformation on the night of the full moon, the curses in the pyramids were no longer so scary.”
Lupin's tone was calm, but Xilun realized something at this moment... It was called breaking the curse, but it didn't involve any skill at all. It was just relying on the werewolf's thick skin to rush over.
“We actually quite like this job… really.” As if guessing what Xiren was thinking, Lupin said with a smile, “After all, this job gives us a free bottle of wolfsbane potion… that one condition alone is enough to make countless werewolves fight tooth and nail for it.”
“But that certainly doesn’t include werewolves who like to bite,” Xilun asked.
“You’re wrong.” Lupin shook his head. “Those werewolves who like to bite actually want wolf venom more… After all, a werewolf who retains its mind is far more terrifying than an uncontrollable beast.”
"But if that's the case, those werewolves certainly won't miss such a good opportunity, right?"
“Yes, they won’t.” Lupin’s voice became even softer, with a hint of barely perceptible hatred.
“Fenrir Greyback…” Lupin said, “He somehow infiltrated the werewolf pack in the pyramid, and on the night of the full moon, he led his other werewolves to bite the goblins and the antidote, stealing all the wolf venom potions.”
Xilen blinked, and at that moment he could clearly feel Lupin's chest heaving violently.
"What happens after that?"
“Fenrir Greyback ran away, and after losing all the wolfsbane potion, the remaining werewolves all turned into mindless beasts under the moon.”
Lupin didn't continue, but from what he had just said, Xiren could probably guess what had happened.
Even if a werewolf goes out of control after transforming, it can be considered an emergency... Just like Lockhart mentioned in his book "Wandering with Werewolves," an out-of-control werewolf destroyed a village overnight.
There was certainly more than one werewolf in the pyramids at the time. No wonder Lupin said he enjoyed working in the pyramids, but later had to leave Egypt and return to England.
After that incident, no matter how much Egyptian wizards and fairies revered jackals, they probably couldn't live peacefully with werewolves like before.
After that, Siron didn't ask any more questions, and Lupin didn't say anything either. The two of them then arrived at another famous tourist attraction in Egypt... the pyramids.
There were even more people here, and the events at Khan el-Khalili market hadn't affected them at all. Everyone looked at the massive buildings with excitement on their faces.
Siron and Lupin arrived relatively late; by the time they found the entrance to the pyramid, there was already a long queue.
Lu Ping roughly calculated that, based on the current length of the queue, they would probably have to wait until 3 a.m. the next day to get a turn... if they hadn't finished get off work by then.
Xilun glanced at the time... it wasn't even five o'clock yet, and he didn't want to wait that long.
So, Xilun walked to the front of the line.
A thin male wizard could stand at the entrance of the pyramid and loudly maintain order.
"Queue up, don't crowd!"
"You!" He spotted Siron and Lupin walking towards him from the side of the line and immediately approached them, saying in English, "There's a queue to visit the pyramids, you'd better go back..."
Before he could finish speaking, he suddenly noticed something in Xilun's hand.
It was a pointed earring that looked very unique.
"Where did this come from?" the man asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Bill gave it to me; he recommended we visit the pyramids,” Siron said.
"Strange." The man frowned and looked Xilun up and down.
"What's weird?"
"Why aren't you red-haired?"
"Huh?" Xilun was taken aback. "Why do I have red hair?"
"Aren't you his younger brother? I remember he had a younger brother, about your age. Aren't you... Oh right, you definitely aren't."
He answered his own question, then quickly glanced at Xilun's hair.
“Haven’t you met Bill’s brother?” Siron asked. “They came here around this time last year.”
“You foreigners all look the same, I can never tell you apart,” the man said.
Xilun pursed his lips, seemingly wanting to say something but holding back.
He felt that he and Ron were easy to distinguish in appearance. Even someone with face blindness should be able to recognize each other, as should Fred and George.
Before he could speak, the man pulled them into the pyramid without explanation, saying in a loud voice:
"Hurry up, what's wrong with you two? You're late on your first day of work! Everyone else has been waiting for ten minutes!"
Then Siren and Lupin walked into the entrance without being questioned by anyone.
