Hogwarts: Don't call me Wandmaker
Chapter 128 The Weasley Brothers' Following Magic Ball
Chapter 128 The Weasley Brothers' Following Magic Ball
For many days to come, Xiren struggled to get used to the feeling of having a leaf in his mouth, which proved to be far more difficult than he had imagined.
Talking is relatively easy, but it becomes difficult when it's time to eat. Xilun has to concentrate fully, otherwise she might accidentally chew leaves and food together.
According to incomplete statistics, he has eaten at least a dozen leaves in the past two weeks... Of course, not mandrake leaves. Since it's just for practice, there's no need to be so extravagant. Xilun specially found mint leaves of similar size to replace them.
Another point is that when you're sleeping at night, you can at least control your eating habits. You can eat slowly or try to eat soup and porridge.
But I really can't control my sleep. Sometimes when I feel a little uncomfortable, I will subconsciously spit out the leaf, or I will dream that I ate it like a cookie.
But Siron didn't have a good solution either, because Professor McGonagall told him that this process couldn't be done with any external help; he had to treat the leaves as part of his body, as an extra tongue and teeth.
If magic is used or someone else is asked for help, the leaf will immediately lose its effect.
“Mandragora is a plant with powerful magic.” Siren recalled what Professor McGonagall had said.
"Its leaves can record the wizard's magic and physical characteristics. When combined with spells, they will gradually form a channel that allows the wizard's body to connect with the future Animagus animal form."
"And this process can only be done by oneself. Once another person participates, or if it is affected by other magic, the passage will collapse in an instant."
“Don’t try to take shortcuts; there are no shortcuts in Animagus,” Professor McGonagall reminded him. “Every method you can think of has already been tried, and none of them have worked.”
Professor McGonagall had a strange expression when she said this, as if she knew the person she was talking about very well.
However, this also dispelled some of Xilun's other thoughts, and he continued to try to get used to the leaves in his mouth... The progress was not bad.
He can now hold a leaf in his mouth for three days, and eating and attending classes are becoming more and more natural for him.
One day after class, Celen returned to the common room and as soon as he entered the corridor, he saw Fred and George surrounded by a crowd, along with the wandering ball floating on their shoulders.
"You succeeded?" Xilun asked in surprise, almost spitting out the leaf, then quickly shut his mouth.
He knew that Fred and George wanted to create a magical artifact similar to the Horcrux, one that could float and follow him around, and they had come to see him quite often these past few days.
However, Siron couldn't offer them any help. After all, Horcruxes are different from ordinary wands; the raw materials are scarce, and even he himself couldn't make a second one.
So he could only offer Fred and George some ideas, suggesting they draw inspiration from levitation and zombie levitation spells.
Xilun didn't expect that they would actually succeed, and in less than a month.
There's just one thing he doesn't quite understand.
“I know you’re batters,” Hillen couldn’t help but say, “but you don’t have to carry around a wandering ball all the time, do you? Even if you made it into a broom, it would look better than a wandering ball.”
For some reason, the smiles on Fred and George's faces vanished instantly. They looked at Siron, then at the thing floating beside them, and after a long while, they finally spoke up: "You're mistaken, this is actually the Golden Snitch..."
"That's a really bad joke," Ron said before Siren could say anything. "This doesn't look like the Golden Snitch at all. You could call it a Quake."
Harry nodded.
He, the Seeker, can testify that the Golden Snitch doesn't look like that at all.
“It really is the Golden Snitch,” George said. “Look, it even has wings.”
Only then did everyone notice that the thing actually had wings on both sides, but they were so small that they were easily overlooked.
“This is the first generation product, and the technology isn’t very mature yet,” Fred shrugged and said. “Later, we’ll try our best to make it the size of a real Golden Snitch.”
"What's it for?" Harry asked instinctively. "Can it help ward off spells?"
“Hey, do you want to listen to what you just said?” Fred looked at him incredulously. “This is just a Follow Magic Orb worth one Gallon, not a Magic Cloak worth a hundred Gallons.”
"Sorry," Harry said sheepishly.
Xilun stood there and sighed softly.
He knew Harry couldn't keep any secrets; he'd let it slip in just half a month. Luckily, no one suspected anything, and he'd come up with an even better plan. "Do these things have any special abilities?" Siron asked.
"Special abilities? Of course it does!" George said. "It can follow you wherever you go, isn't that interesting?"
“Interesting, but not enough,” Celen said after a moment’s thought. “Puffy can do that too, and it’s cuter and cheaper than your Wandering Ball. It only costs fifteen Sikes at the Diagon Alley Pet Shop.”
"But this is the limit of what we can do right now."
Fred said, "We've tried other things, but none of them have been able to make the Zombie Flying Charm more flexible, let alone like your previous book, with its ability to move around and turn pages flexibly."
“We can cooperate,” Celen said thoughtfully.
"How can we cooperate?" George asked. "Would you be willing to let us study that book?"
“Forget about that. It’s not that I don’t trust you, but you really can’t understand that book,” Xiren said, placing his hand on the “wandering ball” and examining it carefully for a moment before asking, “You used oak?”
“And there’s rubber and cowhide, otherwise it would have cracked very quickly,” George said, looking a little indignant and as if he felt underestimated.
It's just a book that can fly, how does Xilun know they can't figure it out?
“If that’s the case, perhaps I can make a core for it,” Siron suddenly said, giving the Weasley brothers a huge surprise and making them immediately forget their earlier unhappiness.
"What do you guys think of the wand core, like those?"
"Really?" Their eyes lit up. "This thing can be made into a magic wand?"
"Is it the same as the pet wand you sold before?"
“Wait, let me finish,” Siren continued. “Of course, even with a wand core, it can’t cast spells like a magic wand. I estimate it can only emit light or produce special magical reactions like wind.”
"can!"
"no problem!"
Before Siren could finish speaking, Fred and George eagerly agreed to the collaboration.
A glowing, following magic orb, plus the materials for the wand core, would cost at least three Galleons.
Even if they split the profits equally with Xilun, they can still earn an extra 0.5 Galleons.
This deal is a win-win situation no matter how you look at it.
On the other side, Celen also felt it was a good deal, but his thoughts were a little different from the Weasley brothers. He thought it was a good opportunity to practice.
Ever since he created the Horcrux, an idea suddenly popped into his head... Could he make some different kinds of wands?
Like the Horcruxes, it's a book, not a wand made of sticks.
Although he had made round wands or curved wands before, those were changes made based on the special nature of the wand core; in essence, they were still curved sticks.
The Horcruxes is the first wand in the true sense of the word to be separated from a staff; more accurately, it should be called a spellbook.
But there was no other way. Merlin had organized and simplified the complicated ancient magic, so the wooden wand he used at the time became the most suitable choice.
This can also be seen from the Horcrux Codex, which does not enhance spells at all.
Xilun wanted to change this situation by creating something different, such as a magic book, a magic sword, or a magic orb, while adapting to the current magic.
The shortcomings of the wand material can be completely made up for by the wand core. Fortunately, he can make wand cores from any magical items, which is something that other wand makers cannot do.
This process might be difficult, but Celen didn't intend to jump straight to the goal. He's only a second-year student, so he can start with something simple... The little gadgets the Weasley brothers made this time are pretty good.
While practicing, he can also earn some pocket money. If more people buy his magic book, it won't seem out of place to bring it out again. It's a win-win-win situation.
