Chapter 291 Curse and Change
Chapter 291 Curse and Change
Luger lay on his simple bed, the faint sunlight streaming through the window and covering his face. A silent sense of comfort and relaxation washed over him as he quietly enjoyed the tranquility of the night. His mind, which had been massaging itself with random thoughts, finally merged into this comfort and relaxation. Before dawn broke, his breathing became increasingly steady, and he unknowingly drifted off to sleep.
Even the most dilapidated little bed is softer than the enormous bed he used to live in, which he could turn over in his cave without falling off.
Luger rolled over and got up.
He first looked at the dazzling blood-red sun outside the window, then at the plush doll in his hand.
Before he knew it, he had fallen asleep while playing with his dolls. Fortunately, no one here would laugh at him.
Moreover, even if someone saw him sleeping with the doll, he didn't think he would be laughed at. This wasn't an ordinary doll; it was a Blood Curse Doll. If someone laughed, it would only mean they didn't know its value. This could be deadly. Although, thanks to the Spirit Hair Nourishing Technique, the fluffy little guy felt quite nice to touch and was very smooth.
Ruger sat on the edge of the bed, giving his brain another round of random thoughts to wake it up.
He stared at the plush doll in his hand, pressing his finger against the core area.
There were bloodstains and arcane marks left from the making of the dog hair doll buried there. He recalled the descriptions in the notes and began to empower Kafi's Impatience spell model.
He took out the dead egg he had kept for a long time, which he had obtained from the tree hole. He had found it in the mountains of the Nightmare World. There were two eggs, one alive and one dead. The live one was taken by Raiden, who seemed to want to get a magical pet as well. This dead egg was to be used when the Blood Curse Doll was born. Now that he needed to plant the curse on the doll, he had to put it to use in advance.
Ruger left a smear of blood and a secret mark on the eggshell, then parted the dog hair and stuffed the dead egg into the core of the doll's chest.
Kafi's impatience tactics were already prepared.
He hoped he would succeed, since the notes used relatively ordinary materials, without his own hair or anything from the Nightmare World.
He tidied the dog's fur, stroked the doll's core, and then Kafi unleashed his Impatience spell.
Perhaps it was because of the blood, or perhaps it was because of the secret mark, but at the moment the spell was successfully cast, he felt a slight tremor in his heart.
He blinked, held the doll in his hand, and examined it from all angles.
While looking around, he walked towards the small door to the attic.
"It should be successful, right?"
He muttered to himself, pushed open the door, and went downstairs.
A soft laugh and heavy footsteps reached my ears, accompanied by the creaking of the old staircase.
Ruger's hand was still on the stair railing. Feeling the swaying, he dared not go any further, fearing that the stairs would collapse.
Suddenly, a faint magical fluctuation occurred, and the shaking of the stairs decreased accordingly.
Luger tilted his head, and although he already had a guess in his mind, he still looked down.
Through the gaps in the stairs, they could see old Lenser's swaying figure. Beside him, though only a corner of his robe was visible, Ruger guessed that it must be their neighbor, the old statue. The magical fluctuations just now were probably the old statue casting a lightness spell to avoid collapsing the old staircase of their apothecary.
Does the fact that his body has become so heavy suggest that the old man's curse has become extremely severe?
Could this be a scar left from when he dealt with a certain god in the Otherworldly Oversight Council? Ruger wondered.
Their target was naturally the third floor, the room belonging to old Lenser.
As Ruger stepped down, he only saw the backs of the two men. They were already walking towards the end of the corridor, chatting and laughing. The old statue looked so kind that it was hard to believe that a wizard was talking to an old, dying wizard apprentice. However, the speed at which he spoke and laughed was so slow that it was almost painful.
Ruger watched them turn into the room at the far end, and as the door closed, he could hear nothing more.
He turned his gaze away and slowly walked to the dining table, where a large bowl of meat porridge awaited him.
The simple breakfast revealed old Lenser's mental and physical state that morning, and also demonstrated his anxious concern for his old friend's safety. Of course, it's also possible that his experiment was missing something, and he was taking advantage of this opportunity to connect with a powerful figure to find a way to obtain it.
Ruger rubbed his hands together like old Lunser and began to enjoy the fairly delicious meat porridge.
Suddenly, a strong magical fluctuation emanated from the sealed room.
Luger looked up, his hands still busy drinking porridge.
Until he leisurely came downstairs to mind the shop and completed his daily routine of nourishing his entire body's spiritual hair, there was no more noise coming from upstairs.
He was naturally happy to have that.
This means that everything is going smoothly, at least there is room for negotiation, rather than ending right from the start, or even something like the wizard crushing an old wizard apprentice who seems to have no potential for advancement in a fit of anger.
Ruger doesn't care much unless it's the worst-case scenario.
He rested his chin on the counter, intently performing a spiritual nourishing technique on the plush doll.
He was playing with the doll and his mind wandered for a moment. He remembered that before going to the Nightmare World, there were still a few potion recipes he hadn't finished learning. There were also tests set by Old Lunser. He had to catch up on them when he had time, and he couldn't let them go to waste.
Luger would occasionally cast a Kafi's Impatience spell on the dog hair doll. This was mentioned in the notes: after planting a curse, the same curse could be cast again from time to time if conditions allowed. Although the doll was not yet complete, it could already accumulate and absorb some curse power.
The two people upstairs did not reappear until evening.
This was far beyond Ruger's expectations.
Bang, bang, bang!
The bell jingled.
The door to Old Renser's Pharmacy was pushed open.
A gray-robed man with half his face covered walked into the pharmacy.
Ruger immediately sat up straight and put away the dog-hair doll.
“Guests are welcome,” Ruger greeted with a smile.
Where is old Lunser?
The man said in a deep voice.
Ruger's eyes darted around, and he smiled, "Uncle went out to talk to someone this morning, so you won't be able to see him for a while. If the guest has anything to say, he can leave a message, and I will pass it on word for word..."
The visitor withdrew his gaze from examining the shelves and turned to look at Ruger behind the counter.
“Tell him that the man’s full name is Emmanuel Caputo. He didn’t have any obvious bad deeds during his apprenticeship. He’s currently in some minor trouble and has quickly risen from a wizard apprentice to a second-circle wizard. Tell old Lenser that those magic stones aren’t enough!”
Although the man's face was covered by a hood and only one eye was visible from this angle, his inner discontent was still palpable.
"A wizard with demonic powers has changed his request but wants to continue. He wants old Lenser to come and talk to me again."
The man glanced at the shop again, then pulled his robe tighter and turned to leave.
Ruger sat there, watching the constantly swaying shop door, and raised an eyebrow.
"Emanuel Caputo?"
He muttered under his breath.
