Chapter 280 Dogs and Cats
A pillar-level organization that holds a seat in the High Council of Wizards.
Ruger admitted that he had developed a slight longing for it.
But it wasn't a particularly strong desire. Just like those modified spells and sublimation rituals, if you want to gain something in one area, you have to make sacrifices in another. He still remembered that guy from the Temple of Knowledge.
Ruger let out a soft breath, and after getting his bearings, he realized that the City of Burning Blood at night was not a major crisis for him. It was something that only unstable wizard apprentices like Old Lunser would fear, while he was just a hairy creature.
Suddenly, he spread his wings.
The development of the Nightmare Organ has come to a temporary halt.
He felt the wings on his back, his toes slightly off the ground. This thing was indeed not very convenient here, but it was still usable. At the same time, the consumption was also greater. He estimated that he could use it for half the time before it would consume a lot of mental energy.
He didn't urge it to fly; after sensing it for a moment, he retracted it onto his back and let it dissipate.
He strolled leisurely toward Old Lenser's Pharmacy.
He had only been to this neighborhood twice when he was buying supplies, and he never expected to end up in such a far place. The so-called stripping array didn't seem very reliable either. He had thought he would be near the teleportation array or appear directly at the table in Old Lunser's apothecary.
Luger rolled on the spot.
I dodged a flashing silver object.
He stood up and continued walking.
The nearby alleys were quiet, and he didn't see anyone. As for the silvery light, he had noticed it long ago.
Another flash of silver light shot straight toward Luger's chest.
Luger dodged to the side as his steps faltered, without stopping.
He looked around but still couldn't find his target. He had caught a glimpse of the silvery thing when it flew past him. It seemed to be an insect, but it also had subtle magical fluctuations, clearly a deadly weapon that had been artificially cultivated.
The spell model has been fully activated.
Luger suddenly quickened his pace and darted out, while also spreading his wings slightly to provide some assistance, increasing his speed once again.
If the murderer can't be found, then he'll hide; moreover, his actions also seem to have the intention of luring the murderer out.
Luger's swift figure twisted sharply, dodging the silvery insect's attack from behind once again.
"My comfortable robe."
Ruger muttered to himself.
The wizard's robe, which was already in poor condition, had a long tear on the shoulder.
Before he could even marvel at the robe, a somewhat familiar figure came into view.
The figure moved with incredible agility, flipping over the eaves and blurring out after a brief sway upon landing. In a flash, it appeared at the entrance of an alley, then stepped off the wall and disappeared into the alley.
Ruger had long felt that there was another pair of eyes watching him.
This person wasn't the one who would strike, but rather using his sudden appearance as bait to determine the location of the person controlling the silvery insects based on his evasive maneuvers.
After a moment's thought, Ruger found the source of that sense of familiarity in his heart, which seemed to be that equally furry and kind neighbor.
In the same alley as Old Lenser's Pharmacy, there is a cat-headed lady who often appears next to the old statue.
Ruger still remembers her black background with white flowers, and only a pitiful slanted white line on her cat face.
Ruger walked a little further, and sure enough, the annoying silver flash did not appear again.
He hesitated for a moment, then continued walking.
He helped her finish fishing, so the attacker was handed over to the cat-faced guy without any guilt; it was what she wanted anyway, just like cats love to eat fish. While the effects of his lightness spell were still active, Ruger hopped and skipped towards Old Lenser's apothecary, each step covering a great distance.
A corner of the Nuondo Pharmacy finally came into view, which meant that the alley belonging to old Lenser was right in front of us.
Just as he was about to quicken his pace, his wings, which were not fully unfolded, suddenly trembled slightly. It wasn't that he was flying, but rather that he sensed a trace of the aura of the nightmare world.
He tiptoed, following the fleeting feeling, and quietly entered the alley on his right.
In the countless expansions of the City of Burning Blood over the years, the straight alleyways like Old Lunser's, where shop signs could barely be erected, have become extremely rare.
As Ruger turned a corner, a strange sight came into view.
One of the modified figures was already decapitated, while another, possibly the perpetrator or something even more bizarre, was kneeling before the headless body, his head bowed, chin resting on his chest, muttering something under his breath.
Luger's cautiousness still alerted the other party.
The man muttered rapidly, his voice slightly amplified with anxiety, before suddenly raising his head and glaring at Ruger.
Ruger raised an eyebrow.
A blood-borne infected wizard apprentice.
"The distance is just right," Ruger murmured.
As soon as a slight magical fluctuation appeared in the shadows, the infected bloodline clutched his head and collapsed stiffly.
Ruger looked around; there was no trace of the Nightmare World here anymore.
"Please hand him over to me, Lord Ruger."
A figure landed silently, almost without making a sound.
"You know my name?" Ruger looked at the newcomer with some surprise.
"Of course, you are my neighbor, so it's necessary to know about you."
As Miss Owl spoke, she walked over to the infected bloodline who was covering his head and skillfully restrained him.
"These kinds of people usually don't have any spoils of war, so please don't have any unnecessary misunderstandings."
Miss Cat explained, ignoring Luger's response, and picked up the man and walked away.
Ruger watched her walk in that familiar direction, then looked away.
He looked at the dismembered body, walked over to the victim, pondered for a moment, took out a bottle and collected some blood. This kind of accidental killing was filled with fear, anger and deep resentment. The blood flowing from this death was perfect for cultivating the Blood Curse Doll. Of course, it was not needed now; it would be fed after it was completed.
He searched again and picked up the unfortunate man's storage bag. The perpetrator had no spoils, but the victim had given him some, as a reward for his hard work in avenging him.
"What a worn-out storage bag..."
Ruger muttered to himself as he walked toward the alley where Old Lunser's Pharmacy was located, but Miss Black and White Cat was no longer there.
The night is deep.
Luger glanced at it, then leaped onto the roof and went to the window of the attic.
Old Dog Renser must have closed the shop door long ago.
After some fuss, Luger finally threw himself onto the small bed in the attic.
He felt the small bed beneath him, and a strange feeling of being both uncomfortable and pleasant welled up inside him.
The dim light of the blood-red sun shone through the window into his face in the dead of night. He twisted his waist, adjusted to a comfortable position, and was still thinking about how he still had one meditation session left for the day, but he gradually fell asleep.
