Kobold Wizard's Journal

Chapter 247 Borrowing and Beauty

Chapter 247 Borrowing and Beauty

Glug glug! The aroma of meat mingled with the steaming broth, rising and wafting towards the three people by the campfire.

Ruger and Leiden blinked, ignoring the broth's sizzling heat.

“The Supreme Council has always wanted to establish a real foothold in the Nightmare World, and this strange and vast place is an extremely suitable choice. This will be a long-term plan, and what we are doing now is just the initial preparation,” Mutric said softly. “The two nascent Nightmare Lords cannot escape the Supreme Council’s grasp either. They may be subdued, or they may be solidified in one place… And she wants to borrow some of the power of the nascent Lords…”

Ruger was listening intently when his eyes met Muse's. He realized that the "she" Muse was referring to was the small, wrinkled figure.

“We are too weak…” Ruger began.

“It’s precisely because of your weakness! Your value lies in your weakness! We are weak to those unimaginable things, including myself, just like the little jumping insects on those subterranean beasts. Even if we shout with all our might, we won’t attract their attention,” Mutress said with a smile. “The High Council’s restrictions are only out of caution, and we are just insignificant little insects. I even think that even a third-circle wizard cannot wake them, let alone disrupt the balance between them.”

Ruger and Leiden sat there, quietly absorbing her judgments and speculations, accepting what was about to happen.

“So this matter is not as dangerous as you might think…” Leiden said in a deep voice.

Ruger sniffed; he figured the broth in the pot was ready to eat.

Muzzles seemed to think so too. Instead of responding to Leiden, she took out the tableware she had seen before, the bowl and spoon that had left such a strong impression.

Seeing this, Leiden had no choice but to start serving the soup to the three of them.

As the three of them picked up their bowls by the campfire, Ruger glanced at her spoon almost unconsciously.

This time it was good; Mutress didn't make any clanging noises. Perhaps now she wanted to influence the two silently, no longer needing to tap the soup bowl with a spoon to accompany her spellcasting as she did last time.

Ruger silently sipped the rich meat soup. This was just his guess; perhaps after the old woman's antics, Mutress's previous skills hadn't improved much.

A moment of silence fell around the campfire.

The three of them quietly drank the soup. Ruger raised an eyebrow. Since that was the case, they might as well fill their stomachs first. Besides, drinking the soup cooked by Leiden was quite a treat. This soup was slightly spicy, and it warmed them up and made them feel comfortable all over. Originally, there was also a portion for Squeak in this big pot. Its hind leg was quite large, but Ruger didn't want to call out Squeak anymore.

Bowl after bowl, the broth was soon gone.

Leiden was the first to stop, tending to the campfire while serving soup to the two men.

"There are many kinds of beauty in the world. There is the beauty brought by delicious food, the beauty brought by beautiful dreams, the beauty brought by regrets, and the beauty of the unknown and challenges. Although the taste is different from last time, it is still very delicious."

The wizard Mutress stood up and casually put the cutlery away.

"Let's set off now!"

She smiled and clapped her hands together in front of her.

Without a word, the three of them began to be enveloped in a hazy light. Leiden was still tending to the campfire, and Ruger was even holding half a bowl of meat soup.

The campsite, the withered tree, and the campfire all became hazy, only the half-bowl of meat soup that Ruger was holding continued to change with them.

The surrounding scenery began to stretch and shrink, constantly changing. With each change, their environment would change, sometimes at the foot of a mountain, sometimes by a strange river, and sometimes even in a bizarre house.

Ruger felt this wonderful journey was a completely different experience from Leiden's journey across distances using a campfire.

"That damned nightmare wizard, really—"

Suddenly a hoarse voice cursed.

Mutress ignored him and continued on her way, her voice breaking as the conversation shifted.

Ruger guessed that this must be a unique way of traveling for Nightmare Wizards, and that it could only be used so easily in the Nightmare World.

"arrive."

She stopped what she was doing.

The three appeared in a mountain hollow, surrounded by a dark, withered forest.

Slurp! Ruger picked up the bowl and drank the last bit of broth.

“It’s right here, but you can’t see it and don’t need to worry about it,” she rolled her eyes at Ruger and tossed him two unclaimed storage bags. “There might be wizards or wizard apprentices here. Just explore here normally, walk around these mountains, hold the contents in your hands, and drop one when it gets hot… Remember, try not to attract attention and try to drop them all.”

Ruger and Leiden each took a storage pouch, left a secret mark, and successfully retrieved a cone-shaped, candy-sized object.

Ruger wanted to ask what Mutric had gone to do with this thing after she had given it to them.

After Ruger made the storage bag recognize him as its owner, he sensed that there were at least a hundred of these cone-shaped little things inside.

But he didn't ask, and Muse didn't give him the chance.

"I have more important things to do that sir has entrusted to me."

As she spoke, her figure swayed and disappeared from their sight.

In the dark, withered forest.

The two men stood still, holding rather large storage bags, without making a move for a moment.

Such a large area is clearly not something that can be rushed.

The two hesitated.

To be more efficient, it would be better for the two of them to act separately, but the problem now is not whether to do it or not.

“The Supreme Council…” Ruger said.

“I know what you’re worried about,” Raiden said in a deep voice. “Although that old wizard is very powerful, and her appearance here was probably unexpected by the High Council, the High Council is incomparable. She should know more about it than we do, and she should fear the High Council more than we do…”

Ruger nodded, which was tantamount to making a decision.

He looked at Leiden and said, "So your conclusion is that she doesn't dare to cause any big trouble?"

Leiden nodded.

They trusted not the old woman and Muse, but the power of the Supreme Council.

From their perspective, if they don't want to cause trouble, they should naturally prioritize obeying the old woman and Muse's instructions to protect themselves as much as possible, or, from another angle, to maximize their interests.

Before leaving, Mutress said that it was right here, so this must be the place where a Nightmare Lord is born.

After discussing it, the two decided to travel together.

They began to wander among the mountains and forests.

Neither of them was in a hurry.

In a small tree hollow, Ruger also found two eggs, the nature of which was unknown. One of them had a faint life force. Ruger decided to use one as material for the Blood Curse Doll, and leave the other one to Leiden to determine if it was edible. Of course, it was the living one. The dead egg that Ruger used to make the Blood Curse Doll was the one that was used.

Luger had just put the eggs away and taken two steps when suddenly his palm felt warm.

He looked at Leiden, both of them clutching a small, cone-shaped trinket the size of a candy. Their eyes met, and they both felt the heat radiating from their palms.

"I'll go first."

Leiden casually tossed the item at his feet as he spoke.

The cone-shaped object disappeared before it even hit the ground.

Everything around was calm, as if nothing had happened.
