Kobold Wizard's Journal
Chapter 242 Joy and Sorrow
Chapter 242 Joy and Sorrow
The campfire flickered and crackled.
Ruger had never longed to see the wrinkled old wizard as much as he did now. He was sure that the wrinkled little girl would bring him a surprise. He just didn't know if she would like the little gift. If she did accept it, would she give them some other rewards? For example, the scraps from last time. Ruger had been feeding them to his wings while meditating, and Chirp had also clamored to eat a couple of bites. Now there was less than half left.
Leiden was using his last moments to tinker with his campfire, trying to make it more stable and last longer.
This guy once said that even if the campfire appears to be extinguished to ordinary people, it may not be truly extinguished to him. He can still connect with it and use it to cast spells, but in that case, only he can leave alone.
Their figures began to blur.
From spacious to cramped, the once-bright flames are now gone.
Ruger suddenly grabbed the bookshelf and covered his eyes.
Another hand covered in blood.
The discomfort wasn't as severe as last time.
As soon as Luger recovered, the first thing he did was adjust his perspective. After bending over and twisting his hips for a while, he was satisfied to see the small puddle of water in front of him. He felt it for a moment and his eyes were already showing signs of watering.
Ruger turned to look at Leiden, who was in a more disheveled state. The effects of the drug hadn't worn off yet, and he was recovering quickly. Leiden nodded to him, and the two went down to the next floor, heading straight for the old woman's room.
On the way, Luger still didn't forget to take out those few tufts of hair to wipe the blood off his face.
The room where the old woman was finally in sight; the stone door, as it always had, was now fully open, just as it had been when it had called them.
Before Luger and his companion could even rejoice, a sharp, throbbing pain shot through them. This made Luger even happier, as it meant that the strange Nightmare Demon seemed to be afraid and trying to stop him from advancing.
Suddenly, the discomfort and pain vanished completely.
The two staggering figures exchanged a glance, confirming that their condition was not unique, and continued towards the open room.
As Ruger walked, he adjusted his angle, and the puddle of tears in front of him seemed to disappear.
This frustrated him somewhat.
Of course, it wasn't just a matter of watching the spectacle; it was also an opportunity to broaden his horizons. He was very curious about what it would be like for the old woman to face this strange thing. He even thought that if this thing could help the old woman and allow her to fulfill her wishes sooner, there would be less danger, and perhaps fewer people would die.
Among the rewards they received were many nightmare organs that originally belonged to wizard apprentices. It was unknown how many years the wizards had been researching these things, or how many had mistakenly entered this town.
Ruger had just entered the room and stopped at the doorway.
Before they could even finish their awkward bowing posture, the old woman suddenly turned around and stared at the two of them.
The small, hunched body paced back and forth, sniffing the ground with each sniff, while the long cane in its hand struck the ground repeatedly with a clear, resonant sound.
Ruger and Leiden both tensed up.
Ruger suddenly noticed two other people in the distance. They also seemed to be in a bad state. Nightmare Apprentice Ms. Muriel was looking gloomy and displeased with everything, while the Yellow-Robed Nightmare Apprentice was standing respectfully behind her, his posture clearly showing that he was intentionally giving her half a body space as a sign of respect.
"Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha……"
The old woman burst into laughter, and suddenly slammed her long cane down.
Luger's eyes lit up, but his gaze was drawn back to the spot when suddenly he felt a sharp pain in his stomach.
The old woman's long cane struck their stomachs directly, and Luger and his companion bent over with the force. The old woman used some method, and tears began to fall uncontrollably from their eyes, quickly forming a puddle in front of them, but most of it flowed onto the stone floor.
"Hehehe, very good, very good. You really do bring me some interesting little surprises, hehe..." The old woman paced back and forth in front of the two, her long cane occasionally tapping the ground with a sound. "Very good, very good. Let me see what this is. The Nightmare World is a land of miracles after all..."
The old woman's words and actions had already drawn everyone's attention. Ruger bent over, tears streaming down his face, gritting his teeth and persevering, while his heart was filled with anticipation.
He suddenly felt Raiden begin to tremble beside him. With a slight glance, he saw that Raiden was the first to shed tears of blood. Why "the first"? Because Ruger knew that he would soon do the same. Fortunately, the dragonborn kobolds were more resilient to the ordeal.
Leiden began making some incomprehensible noises.
Ruger twitched his ears and found that he too had begun to shed faint tears of blood.
The old woman laughed heartily and stood in front of the two men, seemingly in a very pleasant mood.
Ruger sensed that she was already in a good mood, and the small gift they brought seemed to only add to her joy.
This inevitably reminded him of the somber-faced witch apprentice.
"Hehehe, got you—"
The old woman slammed her long cane into the stone slab as she spoke, seemingly piercing something unseen.
Then she stretched out her hands, letting the long cane stuck in the ground swing on its own. Her hands kept grasping in the air, as if she were pulling and grabbing at the air. Her short arms bent in coordination with her wrinkled old hands, and with each grab and pull, she kept pulling something toward herself. The old woman grinned like an old lady pulling in a fishing net, and it looked like she had a good catch. The only difference was that she didn't seem to be struggling.
Luger felt a throbbing pain in his eyes, and the color of his bloody tears was getting darker.
"Hehe, don't be afraid, it'll be over soon..."
As the old woman spoke, she continued pulling and tugging, it was unclear whether she was speaking to Luger and the other man or joking about her actions and target.
Luger suddenly felt a lightness in his eyes and naturally straightened up.
The old woman seemed to have entered the next stage; her wrinkled old hand reached into the void and disappeared directly in front of everyone.
At the same time, the old woman also showed a serious expression, as if she was groping around, then paused, and then chuckled.
Seeing this, Ruger secretly breathed a sigh of relief. His other expectations were still uncertain, but at least this trouble that had been bothering him and Leiden should be resolved.
Seemingly surprised by the unexpected harvest, the old woman's laughter changed again, her raised eyebrows almost flying off, and she could be described as beaming with joy.
Luger continued to secretly observe the two people standing on the other side of the room. At this moment, the man in the yellow robe with dry hair was looking at the old woman's actions with surprise. It seemed that he had also sensed the gain, or, based on his understanding of the Nightmare World, had anticipated something that would surprise him.
hiss--
An indescribable scream echoed in the room.
This caused Luger and the others to stumble, but the old woman was still smiling, her old eyes shining brightly.
Ruger noticed that the yellow-robed, withered-haired man, like him and Leiden, had only just regained his footing, while Mutress, with her gloomy face, hadn't moved an inch, only frowning slightly when the screams began.
As if noticing his curious gaze, Muzzles turned her head slightly and glared at him.
Ruger was struck as if by a heavy blow. Already in poor condition, he almost fell. He was even more surprised. This was not the first time he had encountered this feeling. Presumably, with the old woman present, Mütsu was more restrained. This feeling reminded Ruger of Star City.
He could say with absolute certainty that it was now extremely impolite to call Ms. Mutress, who was on the path of a nightmare wizard, an apprentice, as she had already been promoted to a full wizard and completed the transformation from a wizard apprentice to a first-circle wizard.
You should address me respectfully as "Master Wizard".
Seemingly noticing the change in the eyes of the little dog-headed man at the door, Lady Myurice's expression darkened further.
