Kobold Wizard's Journal

Chapter 228 Invitation and Waiting

Chapter 228 Invitation and Waiting
In the middle of a ravaged woodland, two strange-looking wizard apprentices, exuding a distinctly demonic aura, faced off.

“Young man, I have a suggestion. How about becoming my student?” the demon wizard apprentice suddenly spoke up.

Ruger blinked, almost thinking he had misheard. They were all level 5 wizard apprentices, with only a slight age difference. Of course, his mental strength had not yet reached the limit of a wizard apprentice, but that was not the point. The fact that the other party could say that they wanted to take him in as a student surprised him greatly, and he couldn't even tell whether it was out of appreciation or because they looked down on him.

"Demons come in all shapes and sizes. To ordinary wizards, they only occasionally hunt demons of comparable strength for experiments, viewing them no differently than subterranean beasts whose power grows in a tiered manner," the demon wizard apprentice said inexplicably. "But to wizards devoted to this field, even powerful wizards might turn their attention to the lowest lesser demons, studying them in depth. As long as they delve deep enough, they can still open new doors, discover new things, and see more secrets..."

“Demons may be a subject of study in various disciplines, but for us wizards who delve deeply into them, demons are a separate discipline,” he continued. “Even for high-ranking wizards, it is a field that can be explored for a lifetime, a field that explores areas that even demons themselves do not know…”

Ruger had to admit that although he didn't understand at first, he was now intrigued.

But this is far from enough to bring about any wonderful turning point or change in the current situation.

All Ruger knew was that after the exchange just now, the opponent's stinginess spell should be nearing its end. This wasn't a magic spell that worked exactly as it was supposed to; it depended on the situation. He decided to chat with the opponent for a while and give him some time to catch up before trying to finish the job later.

The demon wizard apprentice seemed to realize that Ruger had become interested.

“I know what you’re worried about,” he continued. “My situation is special… I’m just looking for an opportunity. Even if I miss this chance to explore the Spirit Well, I will soon advance to a full-fledged wizard… and the path to becoming a second-circle wizard and a third-circle wizard will not be a problem for me, I can even reach that level very soon…”

Ruger considered himself a wizarding apprentice lacking common sense, but he was still inevitably taken aback.

Very quickly? How quickly? How could becoming a second-circle wizard or a third-circle wizard be so easy?

Ruger thought this concept of speed might be very different from his own, but then he realized that such situations usually occurred with high-ranking wizards, while his opponent was just a wizarding apprentice like him. In other words, this speed was probably really very fast. That was surprising enough.

Moreover, in his words, this demon wizard apprentice seemed to lack reverence for second-circle and third-circle wizards.

Ruger couldn't help but wonder if his claim of having a special situation was a way of expressing sincerity.
Ruger never imagined that he would ever seriously consider becoming the other person's student.

The snoring, which had been gradually fading, suddenly became sharp, as if someone had pinched Tuzel's throat.

The crevice that had turned into darkness was suddenly illuminated in the blink of an eye.

The demon wizard apprentice paused for a moment, seemingly somewhat regretful. Clearly, this trip to the rift space had brought far more unexpected situations than before. For example, the rabbit's golden key incident was something no one had ever discussed before.

Ruger opened his mouth, while Leiden and Vito had been watching the trajectory of the two's fight closely, observing them all the way.

The demon wizard apprentice glanced at Ruger, leaped down from the tree stump, and deactivated his strange demon form.

Clearly, with the rabbit waking up, the competition for the golden key was over, and he had become a true loser.

Ruger sensed the barely perceptible malice from the other party and dispelled the spell on himself.

The demon wizard apprentice donned a black wizard's robe once more and picked up the severed arm that had fallen from his body.

Ruger watched his actions without responding to the other's suggestion.

A small black object flew over in an arc. "Take it," the demon wizard apprentice said. "It can be used on any teleportation array approved by the High Council. Once you've thought it through, come find me. I'll sense its arrival; you just need to wait."

He continued to pick up his severed arm as he walked toward the rabbit hutch.

Ruger looked at the round, devil-like horn-shaped ornament in his hand and let out a long sigh.

He almost agreed just now, and of course, this "almost" could very well continue indefinitely. This wasn't something to rush into; he could investigate further, and even later, when he returned to the City of Burning Blood, he could ask Old Dog Lunser to find out more about this person. Even if he, as a wizard apprentice, wasn't particularly noticeable, he could still find out about the other person's teacher, that demon wizard.

Leiden and Vito surrounded them.

Ruger had previously put away his old robe, but now he took it out and casually put it on.

The three of them hurried towards the rabbit hut.

“It seems… the hut is glowing,” Vito listened intently. “Perhaps the day has come for that well to be opened.”

The three of them quickened their pace.

"Do you need to rest?" Leiden asked.

"Let's go take a look first."

"Ruger said in a deep voice."

He still possessed the strength of a bull and the lightness of his body, and as he strode forward, he recalled the details of the battle he had just fought, as well as the inexplicable invitation from the demon wizard apprentice. He even thought of the old woman, who had told him many heartwarming stories about her teacher and his adorable wizard apprentices.

Vito listened to the news as he traveled, occasionally glancing at Ruger with a look of inquiry and curiosity.

Ruger continued walking, smiling, and said, "Lord Vito, you seem to have many questions?"

“Yes and no,” Vito said with a tilted head. “I once had the privilege of listening to the teachings of an elder, who said at the end that when someone you consider powerful appears clumsy at a certain moment, do not have foolish doubts. The clumsiness you see may come from his opponent. What you should do is not look down on him, but face the person who made him clumsy.”

Ruger simply smiled upon hearing this.

This might also be why he felt somewhat annoyed by the battle earlier. Due to his limitations, the demon wizard apprentice couldn't fully utilize many of his abilities, which prevented him from learning much. He was still very curious about all kinds of spells, which was the main reason why he didn't back down when the other party clearly intended to use some unavoidable methods.

Rabbit Tuzel's hut came into view.

The surviving wizard apprentices were all watching the small hut with its rotten door gradually begin to glow.

Ruger noticed that the rabbit was being held by the neck and carried in the old woman's hand.
