Kobold Wizard's Journal

Chapter 221 Nightmare and Ears

Chapter 221 Nightmare and Ears
Slurp! Luger held the bowl and sipped the soup, giving the spoon a break.

The sounds of the battle were minimal; instead, there were more roars and cries of terror, and the direction of these sounds shifted, with different noises appearing every now and then. Ruger considered the situation from the perspective of the two wizard apprentices. Once they started, they dared not stop, for they didn't know what the other side's gains would be, nor when that wretched rabbit would wake up.

After a breakfast with a strange atmosphere, he discovered that there were now more than twenty wizard apprentices here, and there might be more hiding in the shadows. After all, adapting to changing circumstances from the shadows wasn't just his hobby.

The wizard apprentices gathered here would occasionally glance at their campfire, and Ruger was also observing them.

The confusion surrounding magic, the choice of path, self-awareness, and other such questions brought these people together here.

Vito suddenly tilted his head, and the hat he always wore at a tilt fell off.

He frowned, looking very puzzled.

“It’s so quiet…” Vito said softly.

Suddenly, his head drooped, his whole body began to blur, and everything around him became hazy, even the flickering campfire seemed to slow down for a moment.

The hazy scene swayed left and right, then drifted away from his body, as if it had emerged from Vito's left ear. As the haze that had enveloped him dissipated, Vito became clearly visible again by the campfire, and he instantly regained consciousness.

Vito suddenly stood up.

The hazy figure drifted toward the cracked, fallen giant tree, and after traveling only a short distance, it landed and transformed into a figure wearing a deep yellow wizard's robe. After the figure steadied itself, it snapped its fingers, and a pale, hairless, eyeless, noseless, and earless canine-shaped magical pet appeared at its feet.

Ruger blinked, never expecting this to be the scene before him.

He noticed that Vito's face looked very unpleasant.

His most prized spell was being used against him. It was clear that the other party had used the fake ear to let Vito enter his dream. Ruger guessed that the person was able to enter Vito's dream so easily and come here by means of the connection between the fake ear and Vito.

Luger's lips twitched slightly, and a smile appeared on his face.

Their campfire was already conspicuous in the darkness, so those people naturally noticed the appearance of the Yellow-Robed Nightmare Apprentice immediately.

But none of the more than twenty wizard apprentices present left.

Just as Vito said, the wizard apprentices who have made it this far are all very confident. Their previous scattering and fleeing was more of an instinct to seek advantage and avoid harm. They did not want to suffer losses themselves, and even more so, they did not want others to benefit from them.

"The nightmare organs cultivated by the Supreme Council are also excellent fodder..."

The Yellow-Robed Nightmare Apprentice spoke softly as he walked toward the small canyon formed by tree trunks and ravines.

A freezing ray appeared out of nowhere.

It aimed straight at the Yellow Robe Nightmare Apprentice's head, as if to freeze his dry, long hair and brain into a lump.

When the spell was cast, the figure could no longer be hidden; it was a young wizard apprentice in a dark blue robe whom no one had ever seen before.

Looking at the freezing ray, Ruger felt a sense of déjà vu, similar to when he saw Vito's Ear-Planting spell. Unlike normal freezing ray spells, it was probably another of that person's solidification spells. The reason why this Nightmare Wizard Apprentice was a powerful figure whom these apprentices were both confident in and had to take seriously was because of his transgression and his extraordinary abilities. Normal wizard apprentices would solidify a spell like a freezing ray, just like that person, but he had successfully controlled a Nightmare Demon pet in the process of transformation.

The pale, canine-like monster leaped up and blocked the freezing ray.

The figure in the deep yellow robe seemed to have already sensed the other party's presence and the sneak attack. Without pausing, he calmly walked towards the fallen tree and the ravine.

Ruger's interest was piqued, or rather, everyone nearby who hadn't left became interested. This peculiar Nightmare Apprentice didn't seem to be there just for the sleeping strange rabbit; it seemed he had long planned to find the faith wizard apprentice. Ruger even felt that he had come to test himself, to test his magical pet with the power of faith, which was close to primal power.

The pale, canine monster opened its mouth—the only movable part of its head—revealing rows and rows of fine, sharp teeth that made one dizzy. A single bite would likely leave hundreds of bloody holes.

Dozens of freezing rays shot out!

In an instant, the uncomfortable dog's mouth was blocked, and the subsequent freezing ray struck the previous ray. The ice block expanded instantly, holding the dog's mouth shut and enveloping its head. With a bang, it exploded, sending shards of ice flying everywhere. At the same time, the blue-robed apprentice disappeared.

The Nightmare Wizard Apprentice finally stopped and glanced to the side.

Luger, like everyone else, was watching the spectacle. But he always felt that the eyeless monster dog transforming into a nightmare demon would occasionally glance in his direction, even during the battle.

The ice and snow fragments dissipated, and the injured, twisted dog head shook twice before recovering. A major characteristic of the Nightmare Demon is that it is extremely difficult to kill, and this eyeless and noseless canine monster has already begun to show these characteristics.

Luger tilted his head. This strange thing was far less powerful than the Nightmare Demon he had encountered at the camp, at least it did not display that kind of bizarre ability.

The pale, canine-like monster tilted its head back and let out a strange howl!

With a snap of its massive, sparsely packed teeth, it bit into the void, and a staggering figure in a blue robe appeared beside it in the distance.

"what!"

The blue-robed wizard apprentice clutched his head and screamed in pain.

Countless freezing rays shot out from his body, but none of them were as fast or as far as before. Instead, they were incredibly slow, demonstrating astonishing magical control. He was like someone covered in frozen blue spikes, and even amidst screams, they gradually transformed into a sphere composed of extremely slow freezing rays, completely concealing and protecting him within it.

A pale, canine-like monster pounced.

As it pounced, its movements slowed down, a cold hue spreading across its surface. With a snap of its fingers, the pale, canine monster blurred and reappeared on the other side.

The screams had ceased. The countless freezing rays that had been expanding outwards at an extremely slow speed suddenly stopped, then recoiled. The sphere grew smaller and smaller, converging into a freezing ray thicker than Luger's waist—a ray that defied description—and shot out.

Ruger grinned excitedly as he watched.

"This attack is close to a first-level spell, isn't it?" he said.

Leiden, who was standing to the side, nodded.

An astonishing icy blue ray swept across the pale canine shape, then continued towards its master, the Nightmare Wizard Apprentice. The ray struck the ground, creating a trench, and the dust and rubble it kicked up were frozen in mid-air by the cold air emanating from the spell, leaving a small blue ravine.

"It's ok."

The Nightmare Wizard Apprentice snapped his fingers again as he spoke.

The massive, menacing freezing ray suddenly stopped and slowly dissipated, revealing a blue-robed figure with its head bowed. A blurry, distorted area appeared near the shoulder, and the pale monster opened its massive mouth and swallowed the shoulder, arm, and half of its body whole.

"You deserve to live."

The man with dry, shoulder-length hair said.
