Chapter 181 Rain and Blood

Chapter 181 Rain and Blood
Wow!
A rattling sound of chains came from the dome.

Immediately afterwards, another blood rain, falling outside the rainy season, began to fall slowly. The drizzle gradually intensified, and the entire city of burning blood was instantly bathed in blood-red raindrops.

Ruger looked at old Lunser standing to the side.

In the past, at times like this, Old Dog-Head Lunser would be filled with apprehension about the blood rain and physical discomfort, but also with excitement for the impending surge in potion sales, even plotting to raise prices for the purification potion. But now, the vampires' relentless pressure made it difficult for him to smile or think about anything else. Ruger looked at him, then at the rain-soaked masterpiece, "Entanglement," and felt a profound sense of powerlessness. The immense gap in power created an unbridgeable divide, something a mere dog-headed shopkeeper like himself couldn't resist; he didn't even have the chance to make a choice.

Ruger did not see how the old man returned to his room; he was gone when the sound of chains was heard.

“Uncle Lunser,” Ruger pointed to the vampire statue that was getting wet in the rain, “those three vampires came to watch the shop, wanting to take over this alley after the Blood Fortress succeeded, but they offended that old man, and in just a moment, they ended up like this.”

Old Dog Renser seemed to only then notice the tangled statues. His worries clouded his perception, and he went to the door to examine them.

“I mean,” Ruger whispered, “could this old gentleman be a very powerful wizard…”

The old dog looked calmly at the statue outside, then suddenly a flash of fire appeared in its eyes before gradually dying out.

“This is not the old man’s power, but a mutated power entangled within him, and it is very strong,” Old Lunser said. “You should not approach him casually in the future. It seems that once he stops suppressing this power, it will affect the people and things around him.”

Although old Lenser didn't say it directly, Ruger knew that old Lenser had already made his judgment, and the dream of a reclusive master quietly saving everything was shattered.

However, the fact that the old man was able to suppress that powerful mutated force, whether it was a curse or something else, is enough to show that the old man's strength is not bad.

Could this also be a way to gain power? Ruger wondered.

"Won't placing the statue outside cause us trouble?" he asked.

“Hmph, what trouble could there be? Don’t think those guys in Blood Fortress are so united and friendly. Besides, there’s this old gentleman here. It wasn’t us who did it,” Old Lenser said, cursing. “This damn weather is something only those even dumber infected bloodlines would like.”

Old Lenser muttered curses under his breath as he closed the second door of the apothecary and turned to walk towards the stairs.

Ruger followed behind. The effects of the blood rain were not limited to the splashing raindrops. The brilliance of the blood sun would also gradually decrease when it rained. People with severe conditions, like the old man across the street, would find it even more difficult to suppress the changes in their bodies. If the blood rain lasted for a long time, it would be equivalent to not receiving the blood sun's rays for several days.

He observed old Lenser's condition; aside from the effects of his emotions, he seemed to be in pretty good spirits.

Actually, Ruger was just about to ask how long the time limit was given by Bloodfortress.

But looking at old Lenser's increasingly elongated dog-like face, I decided to hold off on asking for now; I figured I'd find out eventually anyway.

Jaxay finished his work and came downstairs.

The drizzling blood rain turned his vampire eyes bloodshot, just as he ran into old Lunther who was going upstairs. He couldn't help but roll his eyes at the old man, who was now annoyed by the sight of vampires. His peaceful life in the City of Burning Blood, which had lasted for many years, was about to be turned upside down.

“No need to go to the shop,” Ruger said, looking at the bewildered Jaxet. “It’s raining, so there probably won’t be any customers. Uncle has already closed the shop.”

While the two were talking, old Lunsser had already walked past and gone far away.

“Mr. Lenser…” Jaxey glanced back, then turned back. “Uncle’s just in a bad mood, you know, he’s often like this, maybe it’s because he’s a bloodline wizard, so he expresses his emotions more directly,” Ruger looked into his eyes, “Your eyes look like a pair of rubies, do vampires always look like that when it rains blood?”

Jaxeter suddenly realized, and considering recent events, he roughly understood why old Lenser had rolled his eyes.

He wiped his eyes with his hand and said, "Probably nearly half of the tribespeople will have this reaction. It is said that initially there were only a few. I guess it is probably the effect of the Blood Sun. Since our ancestors came to this land and built the Blood Fortress under the Blood Sun, hundreds of years have passed, and many things have changed."

Jaxsay sighed, seemingly lost in thought about the vampires' recent actions and old Lenser's troubles, feeling a pang of melancholy.

Seeing this, Ruger continued to ask curiously, "What about the blood rain? Are vampires like Uncle Lenser and the others afraid of getting wet in this blood rain?"

Jaxce shook his head.

“We are not afraid, but we will try our best to avoid getting wet in the rain. Our bloodline is innate and will not become abnormal or collapse because of rain,” Jaxey leaned against the stairs, making a creaking sound. “But there is a record of a tribesman who became a bloodline infected after getting wet in the rain. The tribesmen said that his ancestors may have had mixed blood, and that the change was caused by impure blood. But in fact, that was just a pointless slander and some idle gossip. However, since then, the tribesmen have tried to avoid getting wet in the rain. They are not afraid of death, but they are afraid of being executed and then being said to have impure blood.”

“Because of this legend that has been circulating in Blood Castle for a long time, Elena tried to deliberately get rained on several times, but she did not get the change she expected…” Jaxey said.

The two chatted for a while and then went upstairs.

Since we don't need to open a shop, we can take care of some cultivation work in advance, as well as collect materials from a few small insects.

Ruger was happy to help.

The two walked from the second floor to the third floor, passing through one cultivation room after another.

The rain gradually intensified, pounding against the windows of old Lunser's apothecary. Water droplets rolled across the windows, and Ruger, who was helping out, watched them. Just as he had observed them for the first time, these water droplets seemed like predatory murderers, lingering on the windows and searching for gaps. But at other times, they appeared to be just water droplets chasing each other and sliding down normally.

“Lord Ruger, look here, look at its lower abdomen,” Jaxeter was still diligently instructing him. “Mr. Lenser, there is limited space here, and not many things to cultivate and raise. In fact, as long as you master the techniques, you can finish it quickly.”

Ruger snapped out of his daze and focused again.

He watched as Jaxeter's nimble hands swiftly peeled off a distinctive triangular piece of the insect's shell from its lower abdomen without causing too much damage, and then applied the applied medicine.

Ruger subconsciously looked at the scales on his arm and felt a phantom pain.

Upon closer inspection, he suddenly noticed that his scales seemed to have become denser, with some areas even having a few more scales.

I've heard all sorts of people talking about the Blood Sun, but Luger just feels that the Blood Sun's rays are more comfortable on ordinary days.

Could this be an effect of the Blood Sun? Ruger blinked.

The sound of the rain pouring outside the window seemed to have gotten a little louder.
