Chapter 173 Blood and Light
Chapter 173 Blood and Light
“Hehehe, but don’t worry too much,” Old Dog Renser said, laughing again. “Burning Blood City is no simple place, and the Blood Fortress guys haven’t been trying to take it over for the first time. Maybe a fourth-circle wizard who just happened to be passing through here got annoyed by the noisy vampires and took care of them…”
Ruger quickly tidied up the place, and for a moment he felt that old Lenser was having wild fantasies under pressure. Moreover, most wizards would not do anything without a profit, unless there happened to be a powerful wizard living in seclusion in the territory that the vampires wanted to occupy.
However, judging from past events, it seems that the wizards in the City of Burning Blood do not like too many vampires gathering here.
Perhaps the vampires were testing the waters, probing whether there were any high-level wizards in the city, and also testing how much territory they could acquire. The City of Burning Blood had a large population, both incredibly powerful and incredibly weak, because it was a disorganized mess. Some who could leave the city were just there to conduct experiments, staying for a couple of years before leaving. Others who couldn't leave were so disorganized that they didn't even dare to step out of the city gates. They were not subordinate to each other, so scattered that they didn't even know what level of wizard the strongest wizard in the city was.
"Then who founded this city?" Ruger wondered.
One could forcefully explain that the city was spontaneously built because of the existence of the Blood Sun. Someone discovered its magical effects, so more and more people gathered here, and gradually roads and a city appeared. But what about the Blood Sun on the dome? That must have been man-made. The incredibly thick chains that were faintly visible when the Blood Sun's light changed are still clearly visible.
Ruger recalled his conversation with Grimm in the Black Prison about the strange nature of this world, in which Grimm used ordinary people in the villages along the journey as an example.
Ruger felt like a little dog in that village. His doubts and incomprehensible questions might be reasonable in the eyes of the powerful wizards in the City of Burning Blood, because they could see more and know more of the truth.
At the dining table, old Rensser glanced at Jaxet.
"Don't go out and wander around these next few days. Stay in the shop and behave yourself," Old Dog Head said bluntly.
Jaxley paused for a moment as he brought the spoon to his lips, then nodded silently.
Luger, who had been busy all day, was eating heartily on the side.
Preventing Jax from leaving during this period was the right choice, after all, he is also a vampire from Blood Fortress.
"the same as you."
Old Lenser continued.
"If you have to go out, come back early. At least don't go to secluded places. During the time we left the City of Burning Blood, a number of people died in the nearby neighborhoods. It seems that some guys wanted some free experimental materials. Most of the dead were hairy. When people rushed over, they only found some mutilated corpses. Their hearts had been removed, and some had even had their heads cut off."
Ruger nodded as he stuffed the fourth meatball into his mouth.
Jaxce's cooking skills are quite good, although they are still a bit inferior to Daisy's.
After finishing his meal, Ruger returned to the attic.
It was already dark outside.
He lay silently on his small bed, leaning his body to the edge of the bed, and could see a bit of the blood-red sun outside through the attic window.
Suddenly, a pang of heart palpitation struck.
The blood-red orb in the sky, which had already darkened, flickered slightly.
He sat up abruptly.
Old Lunser's voice came from downstairs: "Come down quickly, don't make a mess of the house, can't you feel the fluctuations of the Blood Sun!"
Ruger sat on the edge of the bed for a moment, then got up and quickly walked downstairs.
Upon arriving at the first floor, the previously closed shop door had been reopened.
Old Rensel and Jaxel were already standing at the store entrance.
"Come here, you stupid boy," old Lunser called out. Ruger came to their side, and by then he could feel his body heating up.
The new neighbor, a first-ring wizard, also appeared at the door, slowly nodding to the three of them, who quickly responded.
The feeling of heat in my body became increasingly intense.
"It's rare for it to fluctuate at night. It's getting stranger and stranger these past few years..." Old Lunser muttered, grinning widely.
Ruger noticed that Jaxet looked excited, as if he had finally arrived in the City of Burning Blood. The smile on his lips was almost as wide as when he first stepped into the City of Burning Blood.
"Uncle, what would happen if we deliberately avoided it? For example, by using a teleportation array to leave the City of Burning Blood..." Ruger asked.
“Then what are we doing here? What a stupid question. By escaping the blood tax, the effects of the Blood Sun’s rays will be greatly reduced. We are burning our own blood to gain light!” Old Lunser said.
Ruger nodded and saw that his new neighbor had slowly pulled up his sleeve and cut his wrist.
Old Renser noticed his gaze and said, "If you two are worried about getting your clothes dirty, or if you want to offer more, you can do this. Having a wound will prevent the blood seeping through the skin from running amok."
Luger felt increasingly hot.
Jaxel, standing next to him, reacted even more strongly; his entire face turned red, and his eyes almost bulged out.
Everyone was staring at the crimson orb above their heads; it was likely that everyone in the city was doing the same thing.
Ruger also raised his hand.
He wanted to see what a more intense exposure to the blood sun, which so many people had admired for centuries, would look like.
The neighbor who had cut himself seemed to be actively trying to force the blood out, as if the old man's blood didn't like to flow.
A noticeable ripple came from the dome.
Ruger's body instantly became scalding hot, and the blood forced out by the neighbor shot straight into the sky. Ruger also took the opportunity to cut his fingertips, and the blood rushing around his body immediately found an outlet.
Old Lenser casually curled his lip and used his canine tooth to cut his lip.
Everything seemed to be going smoothly, but to Ruger's astonishment, Jaxet suddenly convulsed and collapsed to the ground.
“Don’t worry about him. Some people in the vampire clan are like that. He’ll be fine in a bit,” Old Dog Renser said with a sneer. “Generally, these people have more potential. The vampire clan is just a peculiar group of bloodline wizards and their descendants who rely too much on the power of blood.”
Jaxay had gradually calmed down, and a faint mist of blood seeped from his body.
“In the past, vampires would use this method to select geniuses from their ranks,” Old Lunser said with a glance.
"So, which came first, those peculiar bloodline wizards or the vampires?" Ruger asked curiously. "Did some wizards who fused with special bloodlines propagate into the vampires, or did the vampire race exist first and then come into contact with wizarding knowledge?"
“How would I know?” Old Lunser rolled his eyes.
Luger looked up.
The blood arrows flying everywhere in the City of Burning Blood looked quite spectacular, especially those of some peculiar bloodline modifiers, whose blood had a faint glow, making them quite beautiful as they streaked across the night sky.
