Chapter 169 Knowing and Not Knowing
Chapter 169 Knowing and Not Knowing
"You damned bastard, I wasted so much of my time on you until I finally got confirmation that you were thrown into the Black Prison. I was so scared that I ran to Blood Fortress's territory overnight."
Old Lenser was still rambling on as he entered the hut, shaking his big dog head as he spoke. When he got excited, the loose flesh on his face rippled with waves.
Ruger smiled. He could tell that the old dog was really scared. Given the rudeness and arrogance of the vampires in Blood Fortress, and their disgust for those with bloodline modification characteristics, they might actually throw old Lunther into the Black Prison as well, so that uncle and nephew could meet in the Black Prison.
“My uncle, it seems your information is wrong. We didn’t go into the Black Prison. I was the only one who got beaten up,” Ruger decided to conceal the truth. “Lord Green’s identity as a Seeker of the Temple of Knowledge is still very useful. This is all just a small misunderstanding.”
“They are apprentice seekers of the law,” Green emphasized from the side.
Ruger smiled as he surveyed the cabin, nodding at an unexpected figure.
That was the young man in black who had taken care of them when they lived in the shop at the foot of Blood Fortress Mountain; he was also a vampire.
Old Lunser coughed.
“Jaxay… is a new buddy in our shop, cheap, not exactly a pharmacist apprentice,” Old Doghead said with a smirk. “Although I don’t know what my little shop needs a buddy for, he insisted on coming along, and he’s cheap enough.”
Not being a pharmacist apprentice, but being considered a shop assistant, means that no skills are taught, but wages are earned.
But this kid managed to win over old Lunser with a very low price, which is interesting. This is someone who neither learns skills nor does he want to make money, Luger thought to himself.
Luger and Green greeted each other with smiles, while the young man in black named Jaxeter kept looking them over after responding. After all, Jaxeter had been present that day, and the Blood Knights' aura didn't seem like they would give up easily.
After chatting for a while, Green went to rest and lie down first.
Looking at him, Luger understood why Green had developed a longing for bloodline modification in those few days.
In fact, many people understand many things. Apart from some common drawbacks of bloodline wizards, most people are ideologically opposed to this inhuman behavior. Perhaps some minor modifications are acceptable, but once you step into the door of bloodline wizards, you embark on a predetermined path that will only lead you deeper and deeper, and even into the more dangerous realm of bloodline fusion.
After everyone had gone to sleep.
Old Lunser suddenly opened his eyes, came closer, and even adjusted the soundproofing array of the safe house.
“Uncle Lenser, are you having trouble sleeping?” Ruger asked.
"You really didn't go into the Black Prison?" Old Dog Renser leaned closer and said, "I asked that old guy to gather information within the Blood Knights. I even gave him a discount on the potion price we had agreed on, and I also sold off some of the inconvenient goods and some of the subterranean beasts that didn't have matching breeding bags to that old guy at a bargain price..."
Old Lenser spoke with a pained expression.
He seemed to have some suspicions about the old vampire, suspecting that the other party was trying to deceive him in order to take advantage of him.
Ruger smiled at him and said slowly, "Do you remember the last clause I added to the contract?"
Old Renser paused for a moment, then lowered his head in thought.
"Don't deliberately cause trouble for the other party..." Old Lunser muttered to himself.
After the old dog finished muttering, he looked up at Luger, who was smiling.
“Uncle Lenser, would you like to know more?” Ruger asked.
Old Lenser immediately turned around, returned to his seat, and began snoring instantly.
Ruger smiled. Some things are hard to explain, and too troublesome to explain, so the fewer people who know, the better. To put it bluntly, he was just a gofer. After finishing what he had to do, he would still be an ordinary fourth-level wizard apprentice in an unknown alley in Bloodburn City, only knowing one formula.
Does the world's favor truly exist? Ruger wondered.
Perhaps it doesn't exist, or perhaps it has always existed.
Ruger did not take out the Black Book to use the divine artifact technique; he simply completed a round of meditation and then lay down to rest.
Silent all night.
The next morning, the group set off for the City of Burning Blood.
As they drew closer, the black-clad youth, Jaxet, could be seen to be excited, seemingly filled with anticipation for the City of Burning Blood. Whenever someone brought up the topic of the City of Burning Blood, his expression would react.
The pack animals were redistributed. Luger got back his original pack, which he shared with Green, while Jaxet sat next to old Lenser.
On the way, old Lenser was still complaining, saying that whenever they chatted, he would think about the things he had worked so hard to acquire. Although he was selling them at a bargain price, they were all good items that he had carefully selected. But Ruger knew that most of old Lenser's main haul was still in his storage bag, otherwise the old man would never be so calm.
Perhaps it was the approach to the City of Burning Blood that lifted his spirits; the black-clad vampire youth, Jaxsay, gradually became more familiar with everyone and was much more talkative than he had been in the courtyard before. It was then that Luger learned that the other party was a level three wizard apprentice, and Luger finally had a wizard apprentice of a lower rank than himself by his side.
Three days passed in the blink of an eye.
The City of Blood was right before our eyes. This colossal city was like a giant beast lying on the wasteland. A day earlier, after climbing a slope, a corner of the City of Blood had already come into view.
Old Lenser glanced at Ruger discreetly; it seemed that only now, having arrived at this point, had this uncle from the same clan finally breathed a sigh of relief.
The group entered the city.
Ruger and Green exchanged a glance.
“Mr. Lunsel, I must take my leave now.”
After three days of rest, Green has regained his usual gentle smile.
"I would also like to invite you to visit my shop..." Old Lenser expressed his regret. On the way, Green had already expressed his desire to use the teleportation array of the City of Burning Blood to return to the Temple of Knowledge.
Ruger led Greene all the way to the small hill where he had first arrived.
The teleportation array was on that mountain, but because of Karyu, he was slightly off course and ended up in the cave below the teleportation array.
"Do you usually use teleportation arrays when you travel?" Ruger walked up the winding mountain road again.
“Of course we’ll use it, but we’ll rarely. That would mean missing out on some of the scenery along the way, where we might find it easier to get something…” Green said softly from the side.
The two gradually approached the summit.
Green was filled with anticipation, which was evident from his expression.
At this moment, Luger was somewhat uneasy.
Only he knew what he was going to do next, but he didn't know what the consequences would be, even though the bald old wizard had said there was no danger.
The two finally reached the mountaintop.
“Lord Ruger, I hope that when we meet again, you will have become a first-ring wizard.” Green stood in the teleportation array.
"I wish you success as well," Ruger said with a smile.
Green smiled, his figure blurring within the teleportation array.
Ruger waved his hand and looked around. Just then, a group of people left, and no one walked by.
Once Green's figure disappeared, Ruger also took out the item, which the bald old wizard had entrusted to him, and flew in a parabola in his hand toward the center of the teleportation array.
With the clatter of the box hitting the ground, Luger's heart clenched.
He stared intently at the box; according to the contract, the agreement was only complete once it disappeared.
The box landed steadily and remained still for a while.
Ruger frowned and couldn't help scratching his chin.
Just as he was getting anxious, the box suddenly seemed to burst into flames. The burning sensation reminded him of the two times he signed the contract. Although they were different, they had a similar feeling. The teleportation array also reacted at this moment. Luger breathed a sigh of relief and waited quietly until it disappeared into the teleportation array.
Luger didn't leave; instead, he went to the side to admire the scenery.
After waiting a while longer without anything unusual happening, he looked around and silently walked down the mountain.
He started humming a song on the mountain road halfway through his journey. He had thought it was something earth-shattering and had been on tenterhooks the whole way, but it turned out to be just a quiet little thing.
