Kobold Wizard's Journal
Chapter 166 Luck and Courage
Chapter 166 Luck and Courage
The world's favor? Luck?
Ruger was chased back by the bald, old wizard who had finished his drink. As he walked, he thought to himself that these things did indeed sound ethereal and unrealistic. Take good luck, for example; it was something that couldn't be defined. For instance, you might trip and fall outside and break your leg into eighteen pieces, but because you were injured, you didn't manage to go out and might have avoided a greater disaster. As for the so-called power of fate or the favor of the world, he understood even less about these things, and perhaps many formal wizards couldn't explain them either.
He walked along, lost in thought.
There is one thing he is certain of: he does indeed meet the standard of a unique individual.
Unique? Individual? It feels like a protected animal.
Ruger raised his hand and scratched his ear on the top of his head.
Hmm, the hair on his ears is still very soft, he thought to himself.
Ruger walked back to the little house he and Green used to hide from the old wizard's madness. Halfway there, he remembered the runes that he hadn't asked because he was driven away by the old wizard.
Green looked on with curiosity; he had never talked with the old wizard for so long before.
“That wizard said there are seven more words, and then we should be able to leave this place,” Ruger said after thinking for a moment. “When you were using the artifact magic, did you encounter any danger or strange things?”
Green blinked and looked at Ruger.
The apprentice seeker of the law maintained his usual calm smile, but perhaps due to fatigue, his calm and peaceful smile had taken on a different meaning these days.
“Perhaps this sir is right. I’ve decided to pause my journey, leave here, return to the Temple of Knowledge, and begin my ascension to a formal wizard. Once I succeed, I’ll resume my travels,” Green said with a smile. “Under the influence of the Divine Art, I might encounter strange things, but I won’t be in danger. The ease with which one can encounter strange things and dangers only indicates an amazing spirituality. Every wizard has a firm belief in spiritual guidance, but there’s never been a standard for the level of spirituality. Later, this sensitivity under special circumstances was regarded as a manifestation of strong spirituality.”
“Sensitive?” Ruger asked.
“Yes, under the wondrous influence of the Divine Object Technique, people with high spirituality are indeed more likely to see more things,” Green said with a smile. “It seems that our hope of leaving this place rests on Lord Ruger.”
Ruger took a deep breath.
It sounds like Green has given up on his plan to meditate for a few more years. Presumably, after successfully acquiring the divine artifact, his achievements in the Temple of Knowledge will be enough to allow him to undergo the long-desired ascension ritual and advance to become a formal wizard.
This is also a good thing. Luger was really afraid that he would follow him back to the City of Burning Blood and start messing around with bloodline modifications again.
After his routine moment of contemplation and rest, Ruger once again picked up the book used for the ritual. He held the three large books of the same origin in the hands of the three people present. The old wizard, who had put down his wine bottle, had also regained his usual focus. Although he claimed that he had not found any new words for thirty years, his concentration remained unchanged.
Before casting the spell, Luger also stood up and glanced at the old wizard. Seeing the bald old wizard's appearance, he couldn't help but be moved. Perhaps this was the wizard's focus. Luger didn't know the old wizard's specific motivation for doing these things, so he attributed the old wizard's persistence to the wizard's strong and peaceful mind. Even after thirty years without any progress, he still persisted calmly.
Of course, I have to go crazy sometimes.
Ruger once again swirled in a silvery-white expanse. This time, he saw the establishment of the Blood Fortress, the book placed on a high altar, and a large number of vampires kneeling in strange postures. Vampires from different eras and of different identities dripped their blood onto the book, as if it were some kind of fixed ritual. It seemed that being able to drip two drops of blood in the ritual was the highest honor.
Ruger saw more words, but they were all written by vampires in this book, recording the power of their ancestors, not those special words. He found nothing for the next few days.
Ruger decided to change his mindset and took out the Black Book to continue learning meditation runes.
Green suddenly exclaimed excitedly.
"Got anything?" Ruger asked, turning his head.
Green nodded vigorously and hurriedly got up to find the old wizard.
There were six more words, Luger muttered to himself.
He simply put away the black book and continued to peruse the heavy sacrificial texts.
A hazy, silvery-white light spread out, like a curtain that could never be fully unfurled. The blood dripping from the vampires onto the book allowed Ruger to see even more.
The vampires seem to be constantly striving to resurrect their revered ancestor, to seize the City of Burning Blood, and to bask in the light of the strange Blood Sun. This strange Blood Sun is something that even the proud vampires must submit to, the only thing they, in their stubbornness, acknowledge as something more ancient and powerful than their ancestor. Their ancestor, it is said, first came to this land because of the existence of the Blood Sun.
After an unknown amount of time, Luger's heart stirred, and he looked at a silvery-white area where the character "特" (Te) faintly appeared.
Ruger felt that the discovery of such things might be due to the spirituality that Green mentioned and the different perspectives of each person, as the old wizard said, but there was also an element of luck.
Thinking back to the blessing the bald old wizard mentioned earlier, perhaps he realized that the first word was spoken too quickly, which prompted the old wizard, who was drinking, to say those words.
When Ruger got up and saw the old wizard, it naturally made the old man burst into laughter again. His long-cherished wish had been getting closer and closer to its end during this period. No one could keep their mind calm. It was already good enough that he couldn't stop laughing.
“My lord, when using the Divine Object Technique, will you encounter anything strange? I encountered an eye watching me before,” Ruger seized the opportunity and continued, observing the old wizard’s expression. “That eye could even follow my movements. Could there be any danger?”
After the old wizard finished laughing, he looked at the hairy hero in front of him with satisfaction, finding the appearance of scales and fur pleasing to the eye no matter how he looked at it.
"Danger? What do you mean by danger? There's no danger in the wizarding world!" the old man said with a smile. "They're all opportunities. Every danger represents an opportunity. Young man, you need to change your mindset."
Luger's mouth involuntarily opened slightly.
The old wizard, seeing his stunned expression, seemed to find it very amusing and said with a smile, "Of course, this is just a reminder. When you are weak, if you want to go far, you should be cautious. But many people change their mindset over time, and after reaching a certain level, it becomes difficult to make any further progress. That little fellow from the Temple of Knowledge is quite good; you could say he is very bold."
When the old wizard finished speaking, a fierce aura unconsciously emanated from him again.
