Chapter 154 Circumstances and State of Mind

Chapter 154 Circumstances and State of Mind

In other words, this is a place where one cannot fight at full strength, at least not for long, Luger thought to himself.

He turned to look at Green, who had just landed. Green had obviously heard what the old man had said earlier and was now looking thoughtful. When Luger looked over, Green smiled at him.

But it's hard to say how valuable this intelligence is; both of them are meticulous people and should be able to discover it quickly.

Ruger noticed that when the old vampire couldn't resist taking a sip of the wine, he still had the small red stone he had eaten earlier in his mouth and hadn't swallowed it.

“I’m telling you this not so you can show off in front of the people who were here before you left, but to warn you to stay quiet and avoid causing trouble here,” the old man with obvious signs of rehabilitation said, then suddenly turned his head, “You old bastard, you actually dared to steal a drink… drink less.”

The old vampire took a couple of sips of wine, looking quite pleased with himself, but then said to the old man beside him, "If this cheap wine had been offered to me with respect in the past, I would have drained your blood as punishment for your disrespect."

The distinctive old man snatched the bottle away in a huff.

“However, this scale-shedding fellow is right about one thing: don’t act rashly. Casting spells here is a luxury, and don’t think you’re very powerful. Many powerful people have died here,” the old vampire said. “There are still first-ring wizards here! Although I don’t know exactly how many, since some are asleep, waiting for a vague opportunity, I can at least confirm one first-ring wizard who has never been asleep.”

"So, young people, enjoy your last days of strength and vigor while you still can. Some arrogant young people won't even have the strength to speak in a few years."

“Some guys who were more powerful than me ended up having bloodlines that weren’t suited to the conditions here, and I’ve already outlived them all…”

The two old men talked back and forth, and then started arguing over the wine bottle in their hands.

What kind of bloodline is suitable for this place? Longevity? Resistance to hunger?
However, they were only at the wizard apprentice stage. Even if one was a vampire and the other was a bloodline modifier who could adapt to this place, they should have starved to death if they didn't eat for a long time.

Ruger couldn't help but think of the small, blood-red pebble that the old vampire had in his mouth.

"Young people, my final advice to you is to calculate your daily spell usage according to your own circumstances and save it for meaningful things, such as using the Freeze Ray to create some ice shards to quench your thirst. There is very little humidity here, so the ice shards condensed by casting the Freeze Ray will be less than outside."

While the old vampire was speaking, the old man with the scales falling off his face stole another sip.

Watching them scramble for it, Luger couldn't help but sigh. He figured the people of Star City would never have imagined that this ordinary insect wine, bought from the most ordinary tavern on the streets of Star City in the lower realm, would be fought so fiercely by two old and steady fifth-level wizard apprentices from the upper realm.

The two elderly people were already showing signs of leaving.

“You two,” Green suddenly spoke up, “where is that first-ring wizard you speak of who has never fallen into slumber?”

Ruger looked at him in surprise.

With a flick of his wrist, a book appeared out of thin air and began to flip through its pages. When he reached the middle, he reached in and took out a bottle of wine—a large, perfectly round bottle.

"You have a hidden storage space?" the old vampire asked.

Green simply smiled, looked at the two old men, and his silent demeanor, along with the wine he held steadily in his hand, was the best and most understandable answer.

He was waiting for that answer.

Luger found it amusing and silently moved a step to the side to stand next to Green.

“That’s great. It’s rare for friends to fall together. Here, you can immediately find someone you can trust,” the old vampire said. The old man was silent for a moment after speaking.

Green's smile remained unchanged.

“I can take you there, but one bottle of wine won’t be enough. There might be danger there,” the old man with the scales said. “That first-ring wizard is a bit special. I can’t tell what kind of modifications he’s undergone. He looks like an ordinary human, so he shouldn’t be mentally unstable, but he still occasionally acts a little crazy…”

The bottle traced a beautiful arc before landing steadily in the hands of the old man with the scales.

Green made a gesture of invitation, clearly indicating that the remaining payment would be given after he led the way.

The two elderly people who had been bickering just moments before were now leading the way together.

One is a vampire wizard, and the other is a bloodline wizard from the Blood Burning City whose modified features are outwardly apparent.

“Lord Ruger, would you like to come and see for yourself?” Green said. “Oh, by the way, there are a few things for you, please accept them.”

As he spoke, Green took out a spellbook.

“This is the only book I have on hand right now. Although it won’t be of much help in making you a unique and powerful wizard, I still hope you like it,” Green said, handing it over.

Ruger accepted it with a smile.

Lesser Sharpness, a zero-ring spell.

Ruger glanced at the title and then put the book away.

"Did you really do that?" Ruger asked calmly. "Just to come here and see that first-ring wizard?"

Green nodded.

“I’m starting to understand what you were saying earlier. The Seekers of Magic are neither righteous nor evil; they are simply pursuing magic scattered throughout the world,” Ruger said. “I’m rather curious about what you did in the Lord’s castle.”

Green smiled and said, "To make sure I could be thrown in here, I wanted to pretend to assassinate the lord. As long as I was caught, that would be fine. But after taking action, I realized that it might kill me halfway there. So I went to the outside of the Blood Castle princess's room, summoned a magical pet with the blood of the Eye Demon, and went to watch that beautiful lady take a bath. Of course, I only glanced at her through the Eye Demon, left some demonic aura, and left. That's not something I like to do, unless the princess has a spell I've never seen written on her fair back."

Ruger nodded, showing his deep understanding. He had also been misunderstood before. People like them, who were wholeheartedly pursuing the path of wizards, had no interest in peeping at others bathing, at least not now.

The two elderly people had already walked away, each holding a bottle of wine as if to toast, but after clinking glasses, they only dared to take a small sip.

People make different decisions in different circumstances, even if the person themselves doesn't change.

Ruger felt much more at ease. Although he had suspected it before, Green now admitted that this guy was behind it all. This also meant that this guy must have a way to escape, after all, the Seeker of Laws was not a madman.

"It's not such a bad thing to come to a strange place and broaden one's horizons," Ruger thought.

“Oh, by the way, Lord Ruger, the situation was urgent and I had no choice but to go with the flow,” Green said. “So I only prepared food and the like. I haven’t fully planned how to leave yet. We may have to stay here for a while longer. I hope you don’t mind.”
