Chapter 141 Abnormalities and Seeking Help
Ruger returned to his small workshop, but instead of immediately following old Lunser's advice to get busy, he removed the magic stone from the silencing array, silently went to the window, and opened a crack in the window that had been closed for many days.
The noise from the street immediately drifted in.
He looked at the people from behind the window; most of them were running around in a panic, as if they were running away from something terrible.
Before he came up, Old Dog Renser had already closed the shop door, making it seem as if he wouldn't be going out or letting anyone in today.
After watching for a while without figuring out anything, he closed the window and began a new round of potion concoction.
It seemed that a successful experience opened his mind, and the success rate began to increase at an astonishing rate as the potions were refined, eventually resulting in more than a dozen successful batches in a row.
Ruger stopped what he was doing only when the magic stones in the silencing array were exhausted and turned into powder, and a rustling sound came from outside.
He put the medicine away and went to the window again.
Outside, a torrential downpour began, and countless intermittent, blood-red lines seemed to leap and jump between heaven and earth, the falling raindrops looking like blood.
Ruger didn't dare open the window again.
He pressed himself against the window, staring intently, trying to discern whether the red color was due to the refraction of light from the dome or simply because the rainwater was blood-red.
Some raindrops splashed on the window rolled in front of him. At first glance, they looked like ordinary water droplets, but upon closer inspection, they seemed to be alive, as if they were still looking around for a crack in the window, trying to squeeze in.
Ruger blinked and involuntarily took a step back. At that moment, a flash of light appeared on the window, and the blood-red droplet seemed to lose its target, returning to normal and rolling down the window.
He wanted to consult old Lunser, but seeing that it was getting late, and remembering the other man's instructions, he gave up the idea.
After placing another magic stone, the room returned to silence.
He got busy, using up all the materials he had before returning to his room to rest. Although, according to the contract, the profits from the finished products he made before he mastered the three potion formulas were none of his business, he still worked with great enthusiasm. He thought to himself that this was probably the novelty of first mastering a skill, and he cherished this opportunity to practice, at least until he became so proficient that he grew tired of it.
The abundant supply of materials opened the door for him to refine extraordinary potions, which felt quite good.
He returned to his room, first going to the Abyss Bedroom Space for deep meditation. After recovering, he returned to the attic room and lay down on the bed he had made to sleep.
After arriving in the Upper Realm, his meditation progressed much faster. After a few days of experience, Ruger estimated that by the end of next month, or the beginning of the following month, he would be able to master the meditation runes and become a true fourth-level wizard apprentice.
He is still more than two stages away from becoming a Level 5 Wizard Apprentice, so he is eager but not anxious yet. However, he can foresee that when he becomes a Level 5 Wizard Apprentice, he will inevitably fall into anxiety on the way to the limit of his mental power. Finding a suitable sublimation ritual for himself and other issues are all things he will have to face, and perhaps he should put them on the agenda as soon as possible.
Half-asleep, the rustling sounds outside gradually faded away.
The blood rain stopped.
Luger turned over and gradually fell into a deep sleep.
After an unknown amount of time, a long wail suddenly rang out, followed by the sound of things being overturned.
Ruger opened his eyes instantly and pricked up his ears.
But the night grew quiet again. He tiptoed to the attic door, gently opened it, but did not step out; he simply listened intently.
Downstairs, it was completely quiet; there wasn't even the slightest sound.
He listened quietly for a moment, then turned around and met a pair of blood-red eyes.
A person was seen peering out of the attic window.
The rain outside had indeed stopped long ago.
Thump, thump!
The person outside gently knocked on the window a few times, the movement very slow, as if afraid of causing him to misunderstand.
Ruger cautiously observed the woman, remaining motionless for a moment. It was the same woman who had greeted him from the opposite attic earlier. Although the two houses were adjacent, they were actually back-to-back, located on two separate streets. He hadn't left the house much in the few days he'd been there, and didn't even know what the place was for, let alone recognize anyone there.
Boom!Boom!
"Handsome and kind sir, could you let me in? The rain outside hasn't dried yet, and I don't want to get too wet..."
When the woman outside the window saw Luger looking over, she spoke as if in a pleading tone.
Luger remained silent.
“I want to seek help from Mr. Lunser,” the woman said again. She still didn’t move when she saw Ruger.
"Or, you could call Mr. Lunser over for me," the woman said again, helplessly.
Ruger did want to do that, as it would be best to have old Lenser handle things he didn't understand, but he didn't know if old Lenser's supposed poor condition had recovered, so he still had to follow his uncle's instructions.
The woman looked at Ruger with a puzzled expression from outside the window.
"You're not new here, are you? Someone who doesn't know anything is such a hassle," the woman said.
Suddenly, another wail rang out, followed by the sound of large objects being smashed and overturned.
This time, Ruger was certain that the sound was coming from the house where the woman was. The attic window was wide open, and the sound was exceptionally clear.
"Let me in quickly, or go and call Mr. Lenser. I would be grateful for your help." The woman's expression changed slightly.
Hearing the sound, Luger looked conflicted, and the woman's expression changed as well.
“Is Mr. Lunsel going to have a breakdown too?” she said.
Hearing this, Luger understood that the people over there were probably experiencing the same kind of bad condition that Old Lunser had mentioned.
"Did he get caught in the rain?" the woman asked.
Ruger thought for a moment and then shook his head.
The woman breathed a sigh of relief: "As long as Mr. Erenser doesn't get wet in the rain, he'll be fine..."
Boom!
Another loud bang came from the house across the street.
The woman glanced back, then stopped speaking and looked at Ruger with pleading eyes.
Ruger sighed.
The woman was immediately pleased when she saw the change in his expression.
"My name is Elena, and I'm an apprentice apothecary at the Nuondo Pharmacy. You're such a handsome guy; I wish I could give you a couple of big kisses on your long lips." She hurriedly introduced herself, even winking with a smile.
Ruger slowly walked towards the attic window and stopped in front of it.
The woman seemed somewhat puzzled by his actions.
Ruger ignored him and quietly cast his solidification spell, Foul Skin, carefully observing the other party's reaction.
This was his solution, since he didn't know any magic to detect lies, and if someone was accidentally injured because of resentment, there was nothing he could do.
Click! Under the other person's surprised gaze, Luger stood quietly for a moment before opening the window.
The woman named Elena laughed, gestured for him to step back, and then climbed over the windowsill.
She jumped in and stood still.
“Thank you, careful little puppy,” she said with a smile, revealing her sharp little fangs. “Don’t worry, I won’t make a mess of the bloody rain.”
Ruger noticed that she took out a clear, mutated version of the purification potion, tilted her head back and drank it down without hesitation, and even shivered after drinking it, as if she were drinking a warming wine.
“If I’m not mistaken, it’s not convenient to call him Mr. Lenser right now, is it?” she said.
“That’s what my uncle said,” Ruger said.
“Then please let me stay here until dawn. Just stay in this corner. I will go to Mr. Lenser after dawn,” she said, slowly sitting down on the ground. She looked at Ruger with a smile in her eyes. “Your youthful appearance reminds me of when I first came here. Judging from your vibrant life force, you were only about twenty years old. This is my talent. Those older guys, even if they make themselves look young, still have a stinky life force.”
Ruger never stopped emitting the foul-smelling skin.
He sat down by his bedside, took out a bottle of mushroom wine and tossed it over. He felt this might be an opportunity, besides old Lunther, to learn about this City of Burning Blood.
