Chapter 115 Surprise and Delight

The delegation arrived on the second day of the Star Festival.

Ruger enjoyed his breakfast at the table, taking in the unusually deserted streets outside.

This tranquility wasn't just because people needed rest after a day of playing, but also because the delegation from Twin Moon City was about to enter the city. Many people perked up and rushed towards the main road of Star City, the widest road that runs through the outer city and leads directly to the inner city. Presumably, both sides were already crowded with people.

“You can go see it if you want,” Ruger said.

Daisy smiled and shook her head. Ruger didn't say anything more. He knew that Daisy had her own standards and knew how to act appropriately.

Aiskin and Big Fool had finished breakfast and returned to their Abyss bedroom space. They had chosen their own room earlier, but unfortunately, they only stayed one night and then went back to their bedroom space for the next few days; they preferred staying there. However, Aiskin had asked Ruger to help her put her large bed into the Abyss bedroom space.

Ruger, still holding his after-dinner fruit tea, strolled to the recliner that confined him for most of the day as usual, and took out the spellbook he used to write spells to read.

Since young master Lorigo hadn't visited for several days, Ruger sensed that some changes were taking place within the Starry Family. Given Lorigo's usual style, he should have appeared the day after Ruger moved in.

In retrospect, perhaps that period coincided with when the Starry Sky family received the message from the Twin Moon City delegation. But how could the arrival of the Twin Moon City delegation have kept Lorigo tied up for days in advance? Ruger was very curious.

He had a premonition that some amazing news might be coming from Star City.

One day later.

On the last day of the Star Festival, news spread throughout the city that Star City would be engaging in ten duels with the Twin Moon City delegation in the Grand Arena to demonstrate their bravery.

The day of the gladiatorial combat begins at sunrise.

Ruger remained in the recliner, merely pursing his lips as he listened to the news. In his opinion, it wasn't big news, much less surprising.

Ever since the news broke, the maid Daisy has been stealing glances at Ruger from time to time.

He knew what Daisy was thinking, of course, but he figured Lorig wouldn't come looking for him. The Star Family wasn't short of ten extraordinary experts; the team of knights who brought Lorig back to the city were all extraordinary, numbering in the dozens. And even if Lorig did come to ask for his help, he wouldn't agree to participate in gladiatorial combat for the Star Family.

The Starry Sky family likely has some spellcasters they've trained themselves, since the Fendis family has them too, and there are certainly more extraordinary knights than just those. This gladiatorial contest, showcasing bravery, is supposed to be a battle between Starry Sky City and Twin Moon City, but in the end, the Starry Sky family will probably have to shoulder the burden alone; the nobles in the city won't easily lend a hand.

As Luger had predicted, young master Lorigo did not appear until the light once again enveloped Star City.

Seeing Daisy's disappointed look, he couldn't help but chuckle.

In her mind, she simply believed it was an extremely glorious thing, and that the powerful spellcaster Ruger in her mind could become a great hero who saved the city.

But in reality, Ruger was too lazy to even go to the arena to watch the fights, and it's easy to imagine that it must be packed with people right now.

He continued reading and drinking fruit tea. His progress in writing was not fast, mainly because he wasn't in a hurry to master it. He treated it as a way to relax and meditate. His writing skills improved every day, unlike the stinginess technique which gave him a hopeless feeling of being stuck at a bottleneck. So, taking it out to look at and study it every day actually made him feel at ease.

At the time of day when the light is strongest, the Star City and Twin Moon City begin their martial arts demonstration games.

Each side selects ten people to compete in a decisive battle.

According to Cui Fanke next door, there is a rumor that the Twin Moon City delegation initially requested the most exciting life-or-death battle, not a battle of victory or defeat, and they even claimed that it was a boring game for children.

Both Trevor and the knight across the street looked indignant when they talked about these rumors. Ruger just smiled.

The scale and financial resources of the underground region controlled by Twin Moon City are far beyond those of Star City. Most importantly, it is about to lose its light, a fact that Cui Fanke and the others are unaware of. On the verge of losing their sight, they are like mad dogs.

Star City clearly didn't want to waste its energy on a dying mad dog and keep it going crazy.

As Ruger looked forward to the afternoon snack, the little guy next door ran over again and stood by the door watching him.

“Mr. Fang, do you think they will win?” the little guy asked.

“Eat this pastry and I’ll tell you.” Ruger couldn’t bear to lie to him, but he was also afraid that telling the truth would hurt the little guy.

Faced with the temptation of the snacks, the little one readily agreed, and the two immediately began to share the snacks on the plate.

Just as the two were enjoying their meal, a commotion broke out on the street.

Ruger didn't need to go out to see what had happened to know.

“I’m giving you a task, brave warrior, Lord Lucien,” Ruger said.

The little guy's eyes shone brightly, and he straightened his back.

“Go and see what the people on the street are arguing about, and come back and tell me,” Ruger said, pointing to a cake Daisy had just brought. “Complete the task, and this will be your reward.”

"Yes, I will definitely fulfill your request."

The little guy happily ran off, only to come running back a moment later.

But the smile on his little face was gone. At such a young age, he seemed to have been affected by the people around him, and a trace of fear could be seen on his face.

“They…they said Star City lost,” the little guy said. “We only won one game…”

Ruger quickly comforted him, bringing him a cake, suggesting that perhaps sending the little guy out to gather information was a mistake. The little guy clearly seemed frightened by the atmosphere on the street; his usual behavior showed that Lucien was the kind of intelligent and sensitive child.

This also reflects the mood of the people on the street. Most people did not know about the extinction of the sun, but they had heard about the warlike nature of Twin Moon City in recent years, as well as their intermittent, meat-grinding war with Red Moon City.

At this moment, all we can hope for is that hot tea and cake can calm the little one's anxiety.

Perhaps even a vast underground city needs a piece of the pie, Ruger thought.

As evening fell, a message was sent out.

Twinmoon City will form a marriage alliance with Star City. Curtis Twinmoon, the most outstanding daughter of the Marquis of Twinmoon and a spellcaster, will marry Lorigo Star of the Star City next month.

Such a joyous occasion should have been filled with happiness, but the people of Star City did not show the joy they should have.
