Chapter 158: Start fighting

Zhuo Tong had to admit that for someone as straightforward and honest as Han Qi, the subtle and witty way of speaking was very effective.

Even if I've never been a "green tea" (a manipulative, seemingly innocent girl), I've seen plenty of them and heard their classic lines, such as:
"Brother, your girlfriend is scary. Unlike me, I only feel sorry for you~"

The effect of those words was remarkable; Han Qi's heart softened immediately. He leaned close to Zhuo Tong's ear and whispered:

"This is a one-time exception. I can't make an exception for you again. But I need to tell the minister first, so they don't misunderstand."

Han Qi did not refuse. He then jogged over to the minister who had just explained the rules of the activity, gestured with his hands, and gave a brief explanation.

Before the minister could respond, he quickly ran back to Zhuo Tong's side.

"I've already explained to the minister that I'll be your teammate for now, and the department's work can be left to them."

"Great, I won't have to grow old alone at all."

"What are you saying? We're going to be best buddies for life. Even if we get too old to walk someday, I'll still take you everywhere to have fun."

Han Qi patted Zhuo Tong's shoulder as if to comfort him, and then gave him a smile that made people feel very safe.

Zhuo Tong didn't answer, she just smiled.

Just as many women have said, words like "forever" and "certainly" from men are completely unreliable.

Especially those empty promises like "I will love you forever" or "I will definitely marry you".

It's all just a bunch of nonsense, born out of a surge of hormones and a momentary impulse, all to gain the other person's trust.

Of course, these words make no difference when they come from a woman's mouth.

Zhuo Tong has never cared about eternal promises. Several of his ex-girlfriends have said similar things, but none of them ended well.

Therefore, he focuses more on reality and chooses to live in the present.

Rather than worrying about whether fresh milk will spoil by tomorrow, he only cares about whether the milk tastes good now.

However, these words, coming from Han Qi's mouth, inexplicably gave Zhuo Tong a special sense of trust.

She is someone who truly keeps her vows and promises.

Although Zhuo Tong had considered developing a deeper relationship with Han Qi, under her influence, he inexplicably strayed further and further from his original path.

Fortunately, the previous incident of getting drunk forced us to salvage our relationship, otherwise I really would have become best buddies with Han Qi.

"Let's put that aside for now and get started on the event. Actually, I've always wanted to participate, but I was just afraid of interfering with other participants."

Han Qi took out his most frequently used racket from his backpack and swung it a few times in the air, as if he had been looking forward to it for a long time and couldn't wait to participate in the competition.

Zhuo Tong glanced around casually and saw that about 60% of the people around him were members of the badminton club.

Half of them weren't holding a racket, which seems to confirm what Han Qi said: the organizers don't participate in the competition.

But the other half clearly needs to participate in the competition.

The remaining 40% looked quite young and were most likely freshmen like Han Qi; these were the real contestants.

After all, I haven't been in school for very long, and everything is still very new to me. I want to participate in everything, just like I did back then.

However, these people are destined to be runners-up. After all, it's simply a pipe dream for a group of people who probably don't even know how to hold a racket to compete with people who have been playing badminton for a while.

"Dude, let me tell you a secret, the first place medal is gold-plated. It's not very expensive, but the design on it is really nice."

"Could it be that you helped design that medal too?" "Hey, you guessed it again! You didn't install any hacking software on my phone, did you?"

Zhuo Tong frowned:

"Why do you do everything yourself? What are the other members and higher-ups doing?"

His gaze swept across the entire venue, where many of the people were members of the badminton club, numbering at least several dozen.

It's really hard to understand how a department of dozens of people can't find many capable people to do practical work, and everything has to be handled by freshmen.

What if my good buddy Han Qi gets too tired?
"You can't say that. I only volunteered because I had a design I wanted to add."

"So... you really want that medal? Since you have the original design, I can have someone make one for you."

"Of course I want it, after all, I personally participated in the design, so it's very meaningful. But I'd rather not make one myself, the meaning is different."

Han Qi rolled up his sleeves, turning his T-shirt into a sleeveless vest, looking full of fighting spirit.
"Now that I've participated in the event, I'm determined to win that medal! You can't let me down, buddy."

"Don't worry, absolutely not."

Zhuo Tong stood still, staring intently at the racket, unlike the others around him, including Han Qi, who were actively warming up.

Each of the few dozen or so visiting competitors was assigned a member of the badminton club to keep count.

Each member is responsible for counting the number of times a pair of people juggle the ball.

Unfortunately, the badminton club member assigned to count for Zhuo Tong and Han Qi happened to be Zhao Dahai, a third-year student.

Zhao Dahai looked at Zhuo Tong and Han Qi standing almost side by side, feeling so embarrassed that he could dig a three-bedroom apartment out of the ground with his toes.

It still features a decoration style specifically designed for badminton courts.

Fortunately, when I led Han Qi to look for his car, the other party didn't see me running away in a panic.

Otherwise, even if a knife were held to my throat, I wouldn't be willing to come and be the counter for these two siblings.

After a brief warm-up, the head of the badminton department blew the whistle to start the event.

As the whistle blew, the referee pressed the button on his timer.

Zhuo Tong gently swung his racket down, then suddenly lifted it up and quickly dropped it down, causing the shuttlecock, which had been resting quietly on the racket, to leap into the air.

Juggling a ball, like in table tennis, doesn't really have much to do with badminton skills.

In other words, it's about whether the grip is scientific, whether the hand is steady enough, and whether the balance is good or bad.

It barely touches on the basics at best.

Unfortunately, Zhuo Tong used to prefer a steady approach, so his basic skills in various sports were quite solid.

The angle of each slide of the racket in my hand is exactly the same.

The path of a badminton shuttlecock as it rises and falls, excluding the influence of a slight breeze, is also a vertical line.

His grip on the racket was just as steady as the old man who had been slaughtering chickens and ducks for thirty years at the entrance of my old residential area.

Even Zhao Dahai, who was standing opposite him, was dumbfounded.
