Chapter 135 The Shattering of the Emperor's Dream
Chapter 135 The Shattering of the Emperor's Dream
Qin Yun and the others retreated into the net passage.
The veiled walker, Hilandri, and her companions chanted ancient incantations, keeping the demonic tide at bay on the other side of the gate.
Angron swung his battle axe and magic sword, but could not open the gate to the net, and could only rage in vain.
Finally, consumed by rage, he turned his killing spree on the red pirates and demons around him, hacking at them madly.
Another chaotic battle broke out.
It took a long time for the situation to finally calm down.
Upon hearing the news, the ruthless King Huron rushed over and saw the carnage of the battlefield, with blood flowing everywhere and corpses piled up like mountains. He felt utterly hopeless.
They came with the intention of intercepting the Primarch and making a fortune.
As a result, not only did he lose more than he gained, but the fortress he had worked so hard to build was almost destroyed.
What a huge loss!
...............
The void battlefield of the Great Vortex.
The Makurag Glory, leading a large number of Imperial warships, broke out of the encirclement and achieved considerable success along the way.
The fighting inside the warships also ended with the successful breakout.
Under the fierce fighting of Imperial heroes such as Amarich, Celestine, Grefax, and Voodoo,
The invading enemy was completely annihilated.
The Weaver of Fate, Carlos, wanted to pursue the Imperial fleet.
But the Khorne fleet went berserk again, shouting the slogan 'Blood sacrifice to the Blood God, skull offering to the Skull Throne,' and launched another attack on the Slaanesh fleet and the Thousand Sons fleet.
The three parties clashed once again.
Later, even more powerful demons joined the battle, turning the entire area into a chaotic melee that left everyone bewildered.
"Have the Primarchs escaped?"
Amaric, exhausted and battered from the recent battle, had no time to rest.
Upon rushing back to the bridge, the first thing he inquired about was the safety of the Primarch.
"The Primarch and my master have entered the Webpath and are safe for now."
Xi Ling and Qin Yun had just finished their conversation.
No matter how far apart they were, the master and servant could communicate without any problems.
As soon as the battle ended, Xiling immediately contacted her master to explain the situation.
"As long as it's safe, it's safe."
Amarich breathed a sigh of relief.
The Grand Marshal of the Black Templar Chapter lived with the guilt of losing Kadia.
He believed that his failure to protect the Cadia Fortress and his failure to live up to the Emperor's expectations were unforgivable sins.
Escorting Kaul to Maclag and returning to Terra with the Primarch were the pillars of his belief that he wanted to atone for his sins and support him to continue fighting.
If the original body were to perish, he could think of no excuse to forgive himself.
“Now let’s head to Terra.” Caul looked at Vordes. “Grand Master, can you see the Starlight?”
“Now you can.” Voddes nodded.
“Then let’s set sail,” Celestine said. “For the God-Emperor, for the Primarch, we must get to Terra as quickly as possible.”
“The route has been planned,” Xiling said. “We expect to arrive in the solar system within a week.”
…………
Netway.
The surviving players rallied together.
After taking stock, it was found that 90% of the players had died and were offline waiting to be resurrected.
This was a tough and bloody battle.
It was incredibly lucky to escape from those demons.
"Is this the way of the internet?"
Zhan Shuai looked at the road in front of him, which was shrouded in golden haze, and showed a look of surprise.
The network of passageways was so wide that even giant warships could pass through.
The misty light was dazzling and mesmerizing.
The network structure is very special, extending in all directions, or even in directions that do not exist, transcending the concept of three dimensions.
The players watched in amazement, touching and tapping everything like curious children.
A deep rumble came from the depths of the network, like the heartbeat of a giant god, like the unpredictable tides.
“We’ll build a net road in the future too,” Jujiro said. “The net road is so convenient; it’s connected to everything.”
"Well, okay, in this game you have to do everything yourself, even build your own roads," the awkward guy said. "So, when it comes time to build the network and have someone sit on the throne, we'll have to sit there ourselves?"
The little alpaca poked the War General with its paw, "War General, why don't you go and ask around later, see if the Guide can sit on the throne?"
War Commander: "…………"
"You bunch of bastards think I'm the thirteenth son, huh? Making me ask this kind of question?"
"........."
The Veilwalker, Hilandri, approached the Primarch and the Saint.
"Our scouts spotted a group of warriors ahead, dressed in exquisite armor painted in gold and blue, exuding a blasphemous aura of chaotic magic, and all bearing the mark of Tzeentch."
“It’s Magnus’s Thousand Sons.” Guilliman realized immediately. “No wonder this guy didn’t show up earlier; he was hiding in the net and waiting for me.”
“He probably also wants to go to Terra,” Qin Yun pointed out. “There is a network that leads directly to the throne room of the royal palace in Terra, which is the starting point of the emperor’s past achievements.”
"After the Emperor appointed Horus as Warmaster, he gave up the Great Crusade and began building the Webway on Terra, intending to free humanity from its dependence on the Warp."
"He supported himself with the Golden Throne and built a new web deep within the Terra Palace, connecting the old web."
"When Horus was corrupted and turned to the gods, plotting a rebellion, Magnus, in order to deliver the message, used the power of the Chaos god Tzeentch to shatter the barrier that the Emperor had painstakingly built, causing the great cause of the Web to fail."
"After the Horus Rebellion, the Empire sealed the Webpath Gate with the highest level of security. He believed that you would also take this path, and the guardians of the Webpath Gate, seeing that it was you, would definitely try to let you into Terra."
"In this way, he can come with you to Terra and enter the throne room of the palace."
"The Lord of Humanity did indeed build a section of the network and attempted to connect it with the existing network." Hilandri nodded, acknowledging Qin Yun's statement.
Guilliman's eyes widened when he heard this secret. "So, Magnus ruined my father's—the Emperor's—grand vision, and then hated him to the core? Was he an immature giant baby?"
"Isn't that right?" Qin Yun countered. "If he were even a little more mature, humanity wouldn't have fallen to this state."
Guilliman was momentarily speechless and could only manage a wry smile.
After experiencing so much, he once again tasted the bitterness in his father's heart.
My father devoted all his energy to making the human condition better.
He plotted to unify Terra and use his own power to suppress the gods of the Warp.
Twenty Primarchs were painstakingly forged.
With unprecedented appeal, a grand expedition was launched.
To build a vast human empire, and then to create the Internet, all for the purpose of enabling humanity to achieve sublimation.
In the end, it was completely destroyed. The most trusted war commander chose to side with the Chaos Gods.
Magnus, under the guise of communication, destroyed the culmination of tens of thousands of years of planning.
After experiencing so much, someone with a weak mind would probably go crazy on the spot.
The father, however, calmly began to clean up the mess.
Find a way to defeat Horus and drive out the four gods.
Dragging his crippled body, he sat on the golden throne, suppressing the collapsing network.
Compared to her father, she was far inferior in strength, wisdom, and emotional control.
Guilliman tried his best to suppress his emotions.
He spoke after a moment.
“Magnus cannot go to Terra with us, otherwise those demons will swarm in, and my father’s sacrifice will have been in vain.”
“The Primarch is overthinking it; we never intended for you to take that path.”
Hilandri slowly began to speak, revealing an ancient secret.
"At its peak, our empire extended the Web to every planet. Even Luna, Terra's only natural moon, was connected by the Web."
"This network is extremely well hidden, concealed by illusions, and even the Lord of Humanity has not mastered it. Only with our guidance can it be found."
“Luna?” Guilliman fell into thought, then finally nodded. “Then let’s go to Luna.”
After making the decision, everyone set off immediately.
Hilandri led her team through the net tunnels, the former territory of the Eldar Empire.
No race is more familiar with the structure and distribution of the network than they are.
Even the most secluded corridors could not escape their eyes.
The holographic archway, hidden deep beneath the stone slabs, was almost impossible to find, yet it shone as brightly as the sun in their eyes.
The group walked through dreamlike, illusory corridors, into dark and empty tunnels, passed through exquisite crystal halls, and witnessed a bizarre and indescribable living spiral staircase.
The network of paths was intricate and its direction was unpredictable. If it weren't for the Spirit Race leading the way, they would probably have lost their way within a quarter of an hour and been trapped to death in the network.
The players chattered amongst themselves, but under Qin Yun's supervision, they obediently followed along.
After a long journey, the group arrived at the City of Miracles.
There is no sun here, but it is enveloped in a golden halo.
Magnificent skeletal structures stand tall, rising like perfect stalactites and then drooping downwards; the entire city curves and arches in some way.
The wide avenues lead to the lost temples, cathedrals, and amphitheaters.
Sculptures of dead gods stand in this city.
A faint sound of crying could be heard from within the mist.
The Eldar, including Hilandri, wore expressions of sorrow.
She told everyone that the ethereal weeping was the language of the dead.
It is the fallen gods of the past who weep for the destruction of the Spirit Clan Empire, and for the suffering of their people.
The City of Miracles is an important battlefield in the Cyber War.
The Imperial forces, led by the Royal Guard, bled to death in this Eldar city.
Countless corpses remain here, some of them traitors, others of loyalty.
Some still retain the appearance they had when they died, while others have already turned into skeletons.
This situation occurs because of the special time flow rate within the network channel.
"It's a royal guard helmet."
Zhan Shuai bent down and picked up a golden helmet. There was a crack in the visor, which went right through the eagle emblem above the eyebrows. A strand of red ponytail fluttered sadly on the helmet.
“And the Silent Sisters.” Brother Seed sensed the presence of his kind and pointed to an arm reaching out from the pile of corpses.
It wore a pair of golden gauntlets, stained with blood, and still gripped a spear engraved with ancient runes.
Beside the body lay a broken machine gun, with unused ammunition scattered all over the ground.
"Look at this, he died from exhaustion," Jujiro called to his companions to look at the body of a royal guard.
The body of the Imperial Guard was kneeling on one knee, with the slain enemies before him, densely packed, filling the entire street, and in some places even piled up.
The imperial guard had no fatal external wounds; he was simply worked to death.
Curious players removed the helmet of the dead Imperial Guard and extracted some blood.
The blood was no longer red.
After scanning and testing, the blood content inside was found to be too low, indicating the presence of stimulant residue.
It's hard to imagine what kind of desperate war could burn out the life of an extraordinary warrior.
In addition to these, there are also the Mechanicus's undead robots, Alpha Assassins, Starfortress robots, and other Guardian units.
The massive Titan lay sprawled amidst the ruins, its cockpit shattered, revealing the bodies of the dead.
"Is this the Titan of Vigilance?"
Jujiro saw the wreckage of a Predator-class Titan.
The dilapidated steel body bore the dual insignia of the Mechanicus and the Firebee Titans.
The binary symbols and Gothic script above identify the Titans.
"During the Cyber War, Vigilance was surrounded while rescuing an allied Titan, the Black Dome, a Plunderer-class Titan. Even so, it managed to turn the tide and destroy a Warlord-class Titan."
The War General also came over and stroked the Titan's battered body, which was covered in marks from penetration and explosions.
The Titan's remains are rusted in some places, but many areas still retain the appearance it was when it was destroyed.
"Unfortunately, the Beacon of Warning ultimately failed to escape the net and perished here. Most tragically, it was killed by the Black Dome. Because it covered the fleeing Black Dome, it wasn't long before it was possessed by 'The End of the Empire.'"
The story of Vigilance is just a small ripple in the cyber war.
The war on the Internet was too tragic. The loyalists of the Empire burned their blood, but they still could not stop their fate of defeat.
In this universe, every beautiful beginning eventually becomes a source of suffering and despair.
The loyal die from betrayal, the dedicated die from selfishness, and the fearless die from cowardice.
In the end, all the stories of the Horus Rebellion boil down to nothing more than a father killing his son.
“The City of Miracles is a crossroads, with paths leading to Mars, Terra, and Luna,” Hilandri explained to Qin Yun and Guilliman. “We’ll take the path that leads to Luna.”
Led by the Eldar, the group passed through the City of Miracles and continued along a small path.
Upon arriving at a complex network of intersections...
A deafening explosion suddenly rang out.
The barrage of explosive shells, imbued with psionic fire, swept in, instantly killing several players.
Through the pervasive mist, the figures of the red-letter warriors gradually emerged. These soulless war puppets moved with mechanized steps, continuously firing to suppress the enemy while shrinking the encirclement.
Although their movements were stiff and slow, their firepower was not to be underestimated, and they were accompanied by hordes of Tzeentch demons.
The demons screamed, brandishing their magic wands or silver swords.
The players immediately retaliated, and many red-letter warriors were hit, their shattered armor and the dust inside scattering to the ground.
“Magnus.” Guilliman raised the Hand of Domination, unleashing a barrage of projectiles that decimated hordes of demons and red-letter warriors. “Come out and see me if you dare.”
