Chapter 98 Guardian Angel
After assigning tasks to Harry and the others, Damon temporarily left the Room of Requirement.

As the new semester began, he approached Professor Flitwick again—it was time to learn a new spell.

The Apparition problem was solved—oh right, he also needed to ask Fawkes to speak to Dumbledore and see if the restriction preventing him from Apparating on campus could be lifted.

Otherwise, after October, he would have to move to Hogsmeade Village to enter and exit the Ministry of Magic—even though only students in their third year or above are allowed to enter and exit there.

However, he is now Dumbledore's student and a favorite of Professor McGonagall and Professor Flitwick, so how could he not have this much power?
"Damon, you've arrived."

Professor Flitwick saw that Damon seemed very pleased and immediately offered him sweets and snacks.

"Professor, hello. The new semester has started, and I hope to begin learning the Patronus Charm from you."

"of course."

Flitwick stood up from his chair and watched Damon gesticulate wildly—he almost never refused any of Damon's requests and always got straight to the point.

In fact, he enjoyed the feeling of exchanging spells with Damon—since he started teaching at Hogwarts, he had hardly had any opportunities to fight with anyone, as the students' spell levels were too low to be on equal footing with him.

Sometimes, Flitwick would actually miss those slightly tense days from before.

Being with Damon allows him to recall that feeling.

"Guardian Angel Spell, this is a very profound spell. You should have done your homework beforehand, right?"

Damon nodded.

"The Patronus Charm is the most famous spell known to wizards, and also one of the most powerful defensive spells."

This is an extremely complex and difficult-to-cast spell that can invoke a semi-materialized positive force, namely a guardian spirit, which can drive away Dementors and Groundbats, creatures that have no other means of defense.

It is a reflection of all the most positive emotions. Using the Patronus Charm is very difficult, and many wizards and sorcerers cannot conjure a complete, physical Patronus. Its form is usually that of the animal with which it is most compatible.

Before a guardian spirit is truly summoned, no one can be certain what their guardian spirit will look like.

"Very good! It seems you're mentally prepared for this! Since you're ready to take on the challenge, I'll certainly lend you a hand!"

Flitwick clapped his hands, seemingly satisfied with Damon's answer.

In fact, he should be satisfied, after all, it was Miranda Goshak who told Damon this.

This old woman, who compiled the standard spells from the beginner to the seventh level, is like a treasure trove of spells. If it weren't for her mind being in a state of distraction most of the time, she would actually welcome Damon to come to Godric's Valley to exchange and learn from her.

But there's nothing to regret.

Just as the old man excelled in theory, Professor Flitwick excelled in practice.

Even the simplest spell can have a different kind of wonderful use in his hands, but the premise is that it will always be used in duels.

“First,” Professor Flitwick sat back in his chair, a serious look on his face, “you must understand the essence of this magic.”

The Guardian Charm is not merely about intention and energy; it involves deep-seated emotions, memories, and spiritual power.

You need to find a way to evoke the most powerful and purest emotions within you.

Have you ever felt, at times, that your emotions are exceptionally high, as if some kind of power fills your entire body?

“Yes.” Damon’s expression was strange—he had just experienced an extreme, even euphoric, pleasure yesterday, under the influence of an emotional amplifier, a pleasure that left him feeling extremely tired afterwards. Wasn’t this just a coincidence?

"Very good, now recall that joy, and with all your might, follow my spellcasting movements and shout together—"

Professor Flitwick waved his hands, raising the hand holding his wand slightly, tilting his head back to point forward—"Expecto Patronum."

Damon recalled the joyful memories of his entire term last year, imagining Harry's expression when he saw him at the Dursleys' house, thinking about the magic he had already mastered, and the possible changes that might occur when his Charms talent level improved in a month—all of this filled him with excitement. So, he began to read:
"Expecto Patronum!"

His voice rang out in the quiet room, calm yet firm.

A silvery-white light burst forth from the tip of the wand, quickly spreading throughout the entire room.

however.

Although the light was majestic and powerful, it failed to reveal a clear image of a guardian deity. Instead, it was a hazy shadow—like an invisible mist, it gradually gathered and transformed into a snake-like form, coiling around Damon's side—but its head did not resemble a snake, because snakes cannot have antlers.

Almost the instant he saw the dragon's head, Damon knew what it was—the Chinese dragon.

A look of relief appeared on his face, an expression that seemed to Flitwick one of melancholy.

"Cheer up, Damon, you're not far from success."

Flitwick stood on high and patted Damon on the shoulder—just then, the mist suddenly trembled, as if to reject Flitwick's touch.

"They already have the concept of active defense before it even has a physical form?"

Flitwick wasn't angry; instead, he was astonished. He quickly began to think.

Damon reached out and gently stroked the body of the guardian deity. The totem of the dragon from its previous life in China was now accompanying him in this form.
Once he practices the Guardian Spell a few more times, he should be able to have his own physical Guardian.

That really makes me look forward to it.

But just then, Professor Flitwick suddenly sighed—and, meeting Damon's gaze, said:
"Your emotional reaction was strong enough, otherwise it wouldn't have caused such a commotion—based on my judgment, your nascent guardian spirit should already be comparable to other people's physical guardian spirits—except for lacking some agility, it far surpasses them in every other aspect, however..."

Flitwick sighed at first, but then, as if remembering something, his expression calmed down, and he continued gently to Damon:
"You lack faith right now, child."

".belief?"

"Correct."

Professor Flitwick jumped down from the pile of books and began to pace around—his fingertips twitched slightly, as if he were organizing his thoughts.

"Guardian deity is not just your emotional reaction; it is the embodiment of your deepest beliefs, your views and decisions about yourself, others, and the world."

This belief must be firm and clear enough to give your guardian spirit a definite form.

He stopped and looked at Damon. "Your current feelings of happiness are undoubtedly very pure, but they don't include the kind of unwavering conviction that's enough to protect others."

You must find a clear source of belief, a goal or ideal you strive for, so that your guardian spirit can transform from a vague state into a complete and concrete form.

"Perhaps... um... I'll find you a Dementor next week, and then we can give it a try, how about that?"
