Chapter 115 The Ambitious Ones Lay Down Their Troops, and the Young Girl's Heart Begins to Flutter
The promotion for this duel club had a splendid opening and a perfect process, but ultimately ended in a hasty manner.
Everyone heard the savior Harry Potter commanding the snake to attack Justin in an evil tone, and the rumors grew stronger with each passing gust.
Harry didn't understand what was going on. The young wizards along the way avoided him in fear, but Damon and the others stayed by his side, which calmed him down.
"Sophistry! You're a snakemouth!"
Ron, a native of the wizarding world, explained things to the bewildered Harry.
“What am I?” Harry asked.
“Parsleyan!” Ron said. “You can talk to snakes!”
“I know,” Harry said. “I mean, this is the second time I’ve done this.”
Once at the zoo, I accidentally released a large python, which lunged at my cousin Dudley. It's a long story; the python told me it had never been to Brazil, and I released it without realizing it. I didn't mean to; at that time, I didn't know I was a wizard.”
"A giant python is telling you it has never been to Brazil?" Ron asked in a weak voice.
“What’s wrong?” Shali said. “I bet Damon can do that too.”
"Damon can certainly do it, but Harry, this is no ordinary skill!"
Harry, this is terrible.
“What’s so bad?” Harry began to feel a surge of anger. He had done a good deed, so why didn’t anyone understand him? Even Hermione and Ron were like this. “What’s wrong with everyone? Listen, if I hadn’t told that snake not to attack Justin—”
“Harry, that’s not what Parseltongue is about.”
Damon spoke up.
“What you say and the effect of Parsnip are two different things. To us, it sounds like you are communicating with that snake using the most evil and incomprehensible language in the world.”
Harry stared at him, dumbfounded.
"I'm speaking another language? But—I didn't realize—how could I be speaking another language without even knowing it?"
Hermione seemed very worried about this:
"Did you know? Salazar Slytherin was a Parseltongue, and the snake is considered the symbol of Slytherin. I'm afraid the whole school will start thinking you might have some connection to this big shot."
“But I’m not! I belong to Gryffindor, that’s the Sorting Hat’s decision.”
Harry found it all very strange.
“You’ll find that this is hard to prove,” Hermione said. “He lived over a thousand years ago, and based on all we know, you are very likely his successor.”
Harry was feeling a little down.
“Relax, Harry, it’s nothing.” Damon patted him on the shoulder. “Actually, it’s cool. I don’t think you need to be sad. Instead, you can be proud—it means you’ve mastered a skill that others don’t have, and whether it’s useful or not, it’s a special achievement for you.”
"But even you can't speak Parsley, Damon. Am I really born an evil Slytherin?"
"Relax. Although I don't know it, as far as I know, you're not the only Gryffindor who knows Parsley."
Looking at the worried group, he resumed talking about his teacher.
"Take Dumbledore for example. He learned Parsley through study, and he's so talented that he's also fluent in Mermaid and Goblin languages. Are you going to say that Dumbledore is evil?"
“Dumbledore too?!” Harry suddenly found it acceptable, while Hermione and Ron were shocked—they had never imagined that Dumbledore would be associated with Parseltongue.
However, Damon is Dumbledore's disciple and spends more time with him on a daily basis, so his words are generally more persuasive.
"Yes, it's true that mediocre people are not envied. You're too outstanding, which is why they criticize you. Look—you defeated Malfoy, your progress is obvious, and you even stopped the python that Professor Lockhart couldn't stop. In fact, you've already become very excellent."
Damon winked at him, and Harry's worry and grievances instantly melted away.
“Damon—” He looked at the boy in front of him with emotion.
No one's words carry more weight or warm more hearts than his.
Even if Dumbledore were here, it would be the same.
"Alright, stop looking at me like that. By the way, I'm going to the Ministry of Magic. Good luck to you guys."
In the time that followed, two things became the topics of conversation among the young wizards.
One is the duel between Professor Snape and Damon, especially the result of their draw—the dueling prince was able to fight the professor to a draw, and the second year had only just begun!
Those who witnessed the duel firsthand could never say that Professor Snape held back—and anyone who wasn't there and made that conclusion rashly would be ridiculed by everyone.
If Malfoy hadn't also displayed considerable skill in spellcasting on the dueling stage, Slytherin would likely have split apart again—nevertheless, they were still trying to figure out how to win Damon over to their side.
However, Damon was usually elusive, and they could hardly find him anywhere except in the Great Hall and classrooms—the library, the Gryffindor common room, the Black Lake, there was no trace of him anywhere.
Whether one wants to challenge, attack, worship, or follow, a host of sycophants and busybodies can't even find an opportunity to initiate a connection—unless you do it directly in the auditorium, in full view of everyone.
In fact, one person did do it—the challenger was hung from the ceiling chandelier by Damon, and he spun around more than a hundred times in the air before the professors rescued him, and almost no professors said anything about it afterward, except for Snape who happily deducted five credits from Damon.
After this duel, his strength silenced all the ambitious individuals, who gave up any thought of stepping on him to rise to power.
Those followers, before they could even get close to Damon, would be stopped by witches who appeared out of nowhere.
Currently, apart from Damon's roommates and Hermione, no one can communicate with Damon without his consent—because of this, Hermione, whose personality had already begun to change, has become a celebrity among the girls, and no one dares to ostracize her anymore.
However, all of this is based on the fact that Hermione did not reveal the slightest sign of pursuing Damon, and she had to send Damon love letters from time to time—those upperclassmen were so enthusiastic that even Hermione often couldn't refuse.
Think about it, they don't force you, they just find the books you want to read for you as soon as possible, and you can borrow any book you want to read from the library—even if it's a banned book, someone can get it for you through their relationship with a professor.
Gryffindor upperclassmen might even personally guide you through your papers—even if they're already perfect, you can't compete with collective wisdom.
When they heard that Hermione wanted to beat Damon in class, they became even more enthusiastic—just compete fiercely! Defeat him! Not pursue him!
Hermione couldn't resist their enthusiasm, especially from those who shared the same interest—she couldn't understand why those knowledge-hungry upperclassmen would be interested in Damon.
But she couldn't refuse their "once-in-a-lifetime request."
Almost every few days, Damon would receive a love letter from Hermione with a look of utter despair.
If Damon hadn't said, "Relax, just leave it to me," Hermione would have definitely tried to stop it all.
But seeing that Damon always reads the letters with a smile and doesn't reply after reading them, Hermione thinks he must be enjoying it and doesn't feel burdened at all.
His smile certainly pleased the witches who were watching closely.
Their feelings were seen, and even though they weren't reciprocated, that was enough.
The second thing, of course, is Harry's Parseltongue.
