Chapter 577: The Evil One

What the heck is "can't read"?

Natsume's hand holding the ID froze.

"Stab!"

A flash of red light appeared, and the man with the middle parting appeared before Natsume, a rare sight.

"This is?"

Xiao Danyu stared in amazement at the Pikachu with its new hairstyle; she had never seen such an adorable Pokémon before.

The man with the middle parting stared intently at Xiao Danyu.

Even it has become the most learned and has shed the label of illiterate that Natsume gave it.

There are actually humans who can't read?

"Don't you have any schools or anything like that around here?"

Natsume frowned and pulled Danyu up from the ground.

"School?" Danyu fell into reminiscence.

"I think so. But it's on another island nearby."

At this point, Danyu paused, then her expression turned to one of extreme fear:

"But overnight! All the teachers and students on that island disappeared. Everyone said that an unknown disaster must have occurred."

"Disappeared suddenly?" Natsume was taken aback.

This is somewhat similar to the current situation of Dr. Yew's team.

"Danyu, dinner's ready!"

Before Natsume could ask a question, Joey's voice rang out from afar.

"coming!"

Danyu immediately became excited and ran towards the Pokémon Center.

Natsume shrugged and followed.

The dinner table.

"There are no meals provided here, you made everything yourself?"

Natsume picked up a piece of pumpkin and put it in his mouth.

"Yes, it's very remote here, there aren't many trainers, let alone places to eat." Joy smiled sheepishly as she said this.
“Basically, apart from this child, very few people come to my restaurant.”

Upon hearing this, Natsume glanced at Danyu, who was wolfing down her food.

"As far as I know, a new school has opened here, why don't you go?"

Natsume opened his phone and, as expected, found a compulsory education school run by the alliance.

"No, no, what if another disaster strikes?"

Danyu said confidently.

"Speak," she swallowed the last bite of rice, then carefully leaned close to Natsume's ear and whispered:

"Disasters will befall this place, that's what the ghost told me."

"Oh?" A hint of interest flashed in Natsume's eyes.

“Mr. Natsume, don’t listen to this child’s nonsense.”

As Joey spoke, she skillfully took out a lunchbox, filled it with food, and handed it to Danyu.

“She just doesn’t want to go to school,” Joey said bluntly.

Danyu didn't care about her undermining her; she simply put down her clean rice bowl.

His gaze immediately became fixed on the remaining food:

"Miss Joey, could you have more?"

"Do it yourself."

Soon, Danyu ran off with her bulging lunchbox in her hand.

She said she was delivering food to her grandfather.

“Her parents are not in Beishang Township, so only her grandfather takes care of her, and almost no one cares for her.”

Joey stood up, somewhat helplessly.

"Yeah."

Natsume's gaze fell on Danyu's back, finally focusing on the lunchbox.

This portion size doesn't look like something an elderly person could finish.

Natsume glanced at the empty bowl on the other person's seat, not a single grain of rice remaining, and slowly stood up.

"Miss Joey, I'm done eating."

Natsume walked out of the Pokémon Center and quietly followed behind Danyu.

After turning left and right, he saw Danyu's house.

It seems to have been newly built with money earned by the parents; it's very impressive.

Natsume watched as Danyu's figure disappeared through the gate, then quickly came out again.

Danyu was still holding a lunchbox, but it wasn't the one Qiaoyi had given her.

It was a wooden lunchbox, which looked very crude and couldn't even be made into a basic square shape.

It's clear that its manufacturing process was quite clumsy. However, due to long-term use, the exterior of the lunchbox has been worn smooth and shiny, making it look much more pleasing to the eye.

Danyu divided the Chinese food she brought back into two pieces.

There's one more copy, but I don't know who to give it to.

Following the other person, we soon arrived at the village entrance.

A group of elderly men and women had gathered at the village entrance. When they saw Danyu sneaking out, someone sighed first.

"Oh dear, Danyu has gone out again!"

Natsume stopped and turned to look at the group of elderly people, asking in confusion:

Does she often run out like this?

"Yes, young man, are you from out of town?"

The old man who was speaking glanced at Natsume and seemed somewhat unfamiliar with him.

"Yes, I am from out of town."

Information is scarce here, and these elderly people probably don't watch the news often, so they don't know Natsume's identity, and he's too lazy to explain.

"When did she start going out like this every day?"

Natsume pointed at Danyu's back and asked.

"Why do you ask?"

An old man became alert.

Facing dozens of scrutinizing gazes, Natsume calmly pulled out a business card:
“I’m a friend of Danyu’s father. I was passing by and stopped by to see her. This is the college she’s enrolled in.”

The elderly men took the business cards and passed them around.

Sunshine Academy?

Although I don't understand what all those technical terms mean.

But it looks very high-end.

"Indeed, Danyu still has to go to school."

The elderly people nodded.

"When did she start going out every day? Probably about six months ago?"

Someone recalled.

half year ago?
Natsume was stunned.

That seems to be the time when the Yew Tree team arrived here.

Could the disappearance of the Yew Tree team really be related to the Evil Cliff?

"Hmm, have any strange things happened in our village or town?"

Before leaving, Natsume asked a casual question.

"Strange things? Danyu is gone, what strange things could there be?"

The group of elderly people immediately burst into laughter.

"She's so mischievous, she doesn't want to go to school, but she loves learning about Pokémon, hey, that's really strange!"

"Yeah, yeah, all I ever think about are weird and wonderful ideas."

"She's incredibly proactive; one morning she was thinking about developing a Pokémon sport, and by the afternoon my Jumpluff was doomed."

The villagers chattered amongst themselves, leaving Natsume listening intently, gazing up at the sky.

Hmm. Why doesn't he find the other person naughty at all? Instead, he has a feeling that "this is a good prospect"?

Natsume shifted his feet and quietly slipped away among the angry villagers, following behind Danyu once again.

Soon, Danyu embarked on the long mountain road.

More than an hour later, she finally stopped in front of a dense grove of trees.

"Hey--"

"Hey--"

Danyu stood in front of the dense forest, cupped her small hands to her mouth, and called out in a low voice, "Hey—are you there?"

The only sound in the forest was the rustling of leaves in the wind.

Unwilling to give up, she took a few more steps forward, her voice filled with anticipation and caution: "I brought you something delicious!"

Just then, a particularly lush shrub in front of them suddenly began to sway gently.

The branches and leaves were carefully parted, and a round, bright orange-colored little head peeked out.

Those huge, starry eyes blinked and immediately locked onto the lunchbox in Danyu's hand.

It emerged nimbly from the bushes, its light green cloak swaying gently in the wind.

At the collar of its cloak was a crooked bow made of rough pink fabric.

Although the stitches on the bow were still delicate, they were neatly arranged, making it stand out like a wildflower suddenly blooming amidst the lush greenery.

Ergui Pong sniffed, and two pearl-like little tiger teeth were faintly visible in the sunlight.

It quickened its pace and came to Danyu, its starry eyes blinking as its gaze moved back and forth between her and the lunchbox.

The cloak and the slightly comical pink bow behind it swayed gently with its movements.

Natsume leaned against the tree, watching Danyu feeding her below without making a sound.
