Chapter 523 Warning
"Where did the captain go?" Luo Gandao asked in a low voice while picking at the food on his plate.

Zheng Zha made up a story: "He probably went to the toilet."

Before he could finish speaking, Zhao Yingkong glared at him. Zheng Zha scratched his head and happened to see Mu Xiang walking over: "Oh, so fast."

Mu Xiang plopped down in the seat the three of them had left for him: "Where's my share?"

"I noticed you had too much meat and vegetables, so I helped you finish some," Zheng Zha said sincerely, pushing a plate towards Mu Xiang.

Mu Xiang rolled his eyes: "I was only gone for a short while, and you dare to pull this on me?"

After the four left the teaching hall, it happened to be lunchtime at a nearby restaurant, so they had dinner there. The various canteens and restaurants in the base had staggered meal times, which greatly alleviated the students' dining pressure... After Mu Xiang asked Zheng Zha to get him a meal, he left on his own.

Luo Gandao was somewhat baffled, but Zheng Zha knew exactly what Mu Xiang was up to... Of course, this tacit understanding didn't stop him from eating some of the food on Mu Xiang's plate. However, before he could even take a couple of bites, Mu Xiang returned.

"All done?" Zheng Zha asked Mu Xiang in his mind.

"nailed it."

"That's true. If you spend too much time on it, it's abnormal."

Mu Xiang nodded and began wolfing down his food. Before he had even finished half of it, a piercing alarm sounded, causing a commotion among the new recruits in the mess hall.

"What's going on?" Zhang Jie's voice rang in their minds. He had gone straight to another cafeteria for lunch after training and should be back in his dorm by now. But he also heard the alarm, and clearly, the alarm's range was quite wide.

"I did it," Mu Xiang replied nonchalantly. "There's a D-level side quest involved."

Zheng Zha was taken aback for a moment before asking himself, "Only one D-level side quest?"

"For me, having a side quest is already pretty good... Don't you even consider the strength of the opponent and my strength? Besides, this is just a small side quest; whether I do it or not probably won't have much of an impact." Mu Xiang chuckled to himself.

Zhang Jie's voice rang out again: "No, I heard your previous conversation... I mean, who was the guy you killed? How did he trigger this alarm?"

“I don’t know what kind of alert a typical murder case would trigger…” Mu Xiang said, “but that guy… is one of the base’s chief bishops.”

"Huh?" Zheng Zha and Zhang Jie exclaimed in unison.

"Don't take this too seriously. So what if he's a bishop? He'll still kill people even if there's a reward," Mu Xiang said helplessly.

Zheng Zha hesitated for a long time: "It's not that we're afraid of him... it's that the killing of the bishop might cause even more trouble."

"Are you afraid it'll be too conspicuous?"

Zheng Zha and Zhang Jie, though in different places, seemed to be looking at each other in silence for a moment before answering, "Mm." Mu Xiang continued eating the food on his plate: "What if I said... I left a mark?"

A sense of foreboding rose in Zheng Zha's heart: "What kind of mark?"

"Uh...you can think of it as something like Wu Song, the killer?"

Seeing that Zheng Zha was about to be shocked again, Mu Xiang had no choice but to explain his thoughts to himself.

"Is that what you're planning...? Hey, won't that get us investigated or something? We still have new members in our team. If we're exposed, Zhang Jie will have to step in." Zheng Zha asked doubtfully.

Mu Xiang chuckled to himself, "No, you know my abilities, or rather, my physique... If I want to, even if the camera captures my face, it won't matter."

"Is this a hint? And it also works on the camera?" Zheng Zha suddenly realized.

"I guess so. Whether you see it in person or take a picture, there's no real difference in this kind of visual suggestion." Mu Xiang picked up the soup bowl and drank most of it in one gulp. "This soup is too bland."

Zhang Jie sighed: "That doesn't seem to be the key point... The marks you left are so conspicuous, won't they make us a target? Or did you intend for us to be a target from the start?"

“You’ve got a preconceived notion,” Mu Xiang said. “In this base, not everyone, but eight or nine out of ten people can use Chinese characters… Rather, it’s a regional characteristic of the Eastern Front and even the Allied countries. We don’t have any racial specialties… Even if we’re questioned or something, we’ll just accept the same things as everyone else.”

As they were talking, guards had already sealed off the restaurant... The same thing was happening throughout the entire base; every area was sealed off, not just new recruits and veterans, but also instructors and the like.

"A quick response, though the handling was rough, but the underlying logic was correct," Mu Xiang commented. "Dividing the entire base into several controllable areas and then conducting a thorough search... it seems the Allies already had measures and procedures in place for this kind of intrusion."

"What's next?" Zhang Jie asked in his mind. "Guards are searching the recruits' dormitories...and your mess hall is surrounded too, right?"

"Just cooperate, you didn't do anything... I said before, don't leave the equipment outside, just follow orders and you'll be fine." Mu Xiang glanced at a group of guards who were walking in aggressively, "But it seems that these guards don't know the truth... I can hear the hearts of several supervising officers pounding, while they are nicely invisible."

While Mu Xiang was complaining, Zheng Zha was also explaining the situation to Luo Gandao in his mind, telling the newcomer not to be nervous... Of course, if his mental fortitude was really lacking, there were experienced people to back him up. Fortunately, Luo Gandao was more sensible than Zheng Zha thought; this guy wasn't some naive high school student... When the guards searched the area, he obediently cooperated.

Only after the guards who had sealed off the restaurant left did Logandao breathe a sigh of relief: "Did they react so quickly?"

"What good is speed? This is a method for guarding against spies, not against superhuman assassins." Mu Xiang sneered. "Those officials should have mobilized a large number of guards to protect themselves by now. The search of the base is just a matter of luck."

"So what are you planning to do next?" Zheng Zha asked in his heart.

While the other new recruits were bewildered, Zheng Zha remained calm. After being searched by the guards with instruments, he continued eating his food.

“Let’s show our faces again, and act like we’re going to assassinate a few more.” Mu Xiang shrugged. “Let’s go out after we finish eating. I’ll disappear into a blind spot in the surveillance cameras, just like before… to help distract you.”
