Chapter 216 Resurrect! My Captain
Chapter 216 Resurrect! My Captain
Steve slowly opened his eyes, the blinding sunlight causing him to squint instinctively.
Looking around, he found himself in an unfamiliar environment.
A turquoise swimming pool, a luxurious villa, and palm trees swaying in the breeze.
Steve was fully awake, his eyes widening instantly.
This is completely different from the frigid Arctic ice fields I remember.
How did I get here?
Did they go to heaven?
Just as I was feeling confused, I heard a man and a woman talking not far away.
Steve held his breath and listened intently.
Gwen, holding up her shield, looked completely bewildered: "Boss, is this really Captain America?"
"Isn't he already dead?"
Roger, with his legs crossed, sipped his chilled juice and chuckled, "The real deal!"
"I personally dug this out of a hole in the Arctic ice."
"Once he wakes up, we'll make him the company's most famous superhero."
"Yeah, the stage name will be Captain Hydra, I guarantee it will go viral across the internet."
Hydra?
These three words struck Steve's heart like a heavy hammer.
His pupils contracted sharply, and his blood froze instantly.
What did I hear?
Hydra!
Oh no, I've stumbled into a den of thieves.
Shield.
I need my old friend's help.
Where did the shield go?
Steve didn't move, but his eyes darted around frantically.
Finally, he saw his vibranium shield being held and played with by the short-haired girl.
I will never admit my mistake!
The next moment, Steve suddenly stood up, his muscles tense, and sprinted toward Gwen.
Gwen was startled by Steve's sudden standing up and almost threw her shield into the pool.
Roger, however, remained calm and glanced at the old man.
An invisible force suddenly pressed down, and Steve had only taken two steps when he felt as if a thousand-pound boulder was pressing on his back.
He staggered forward and fell, his knees hitting the tiles hard.
"This is……"
"Hydra's weapons?"
Steve struggled to lift his head, veins bulging on his forehead.
"Are you Hydra agents?"
Roger spoke slowly and deliberately: "Calm down, Captain, don't be so tense."
"We mean no harm."
"After all, who would target a walking, living advertisement?"
"Oh, right, there's also Captain America, a long-standing IP with extremely high commercial value."
After speaking, he snapped his fingers.
Steve immediately felt the gravity on his body ease slightly.
Roger then gestured to Gwen.
She hesitated before pushing the shield in front of Steve.
Steve grabbed the shield, the coolness of the metal sending a familiar sensation through him, which reassured him somewhat.
But he remained vigilant, holding his shield horizontally in front of his chest: "Who exactly are you people?"
"Why did you say you wanted to turn me into a Hydra captain?"
Roger said casually, "I just wanted to make a big splash."
"Today's audiences love to see contrasts; Captain America turning to the dark side would be a hot topic!"
Roger raised an eyebrow at Steve: "Let me introduce myself. I'm the chairman of Vought International, the company that specializes in launching superheroes."
"Welcome to the future, Captain."
"what?"
"Seventy years later?"
Steve felt a sudden darkness before his eyes, and his temples throbbed.
He opened his mouth, somewhat incredulous.
When he woke up, he found himself seventy years in the future.
Roger had Gwen explain it to him. Gwen cautiously began, "You've been asleep for seventy years; now it's a completely new era."
"There are cell phones, the internet, and even superheroes are emerging one after another."
Where is Carter?
As a simp, the first thing Steve thought of when he found himself seventy years in the future was his goddess.
"Peggy Carter, where is she?"
Upon hearing this, Gwen looked to Roger for help.
Roger shrugged, with a hint of teasing: "Carter's gotten old. Just looking at her, she could be your grandmother."
"Oh, by the way, she also married someone else."
"After all, it's been seventy years."
"Captain, time waits for no one."
These words struck Steve like a hammer blow.
He staggered back two steps, his mind flashing back to the night he danced with Carter and the promise they made when they parted.
And now, everything he was familiar with has disappeared.
Roger interrupted Steve's thoughts.
"You can choose to sign with my company and become a superhero under our banner."
“I’ll help you sue the government and get back all your wages and pensions from the past seventy years. I can even help you recover the profits from the merchandise related to the well-known Captain America IP.”
"Captain, you've been lying in the ice for seventy years, you deserve some compensation, right?"
"As for daily work, it's just small things like organizing fan meetings, global tours, and fighting supervillains."
“These are almost all things you did seventy years ago, and I have faith in your professional abilities.”
Steve looked at Roger warily, like a wounded beast: "Let me have some peace and quiet."
"random."
Roger spread his hands, gesturing for Gwen to step back.
"But you'd better think it through before you step out of this door."
“You are penniless, have no identification, and don’t even know how to use a mobile phone.”
"It's not easy to survive in this world."
"Oh, right, you also need to remember to repay the ice-breaking and thawing fees for getting you out."
"If you're willing to sign a contract, I can waive part of the fee and give you a rock-bottom price."
Steve shook his head and said, "Let me have some peace and quiet first."
"I will never forget your kindness in saving my life."
After saying that, Steve prepared to leave.
Upon hearing this, Roger raised his hand, and the vibranium shield flew into his hand.
"I'll leave the shield with you as collateral."
Steve stared at the shield that held countless memories, his Adam's apple bobbing.
Seventy years of slumber disconnected him from the world, and only this old companion remained with him.
Unexpectedly, I've now become a hostage.
"I will return."
"I will definitely redeem you."
Steve said in a low voice, turned and left, his back view as stubborn as a lone wolf.
Roger looked at Gwen: "Go and get the Department of Justice to get to work quickly and prepare to sue the U.S. government."
"Seventy years of wages, pensions, and all the profits from Captain America IP merchandise over the years—we want them all back, not a single penny left out."
Gwen was taken aback: "But the captain hasn't agreed to join us yet, and he hasn't signed a contract!"
"He will agree."
"He won't abandon the shield; it's practically his lover."
With that, Roger tossed the shield aside and lay back down on the beach chair.
Outside the villa, Steve stood under the blazing sun, watching the cars speeding by on the street and the smartphones in people's hands.
For the first time, he truly felt his incompatibility with this world.
Steve looked down at his Stars and Stripes suit and suddenly felt like an exhibit that had escaped from a museum.
Where should we go?
Now, he doesn't even know who to ask for directions.
