Chapter 214 Hydra's Re-employment Platform, the Unemployed Bureau Chief with a Hard-Boiled Egg

The Ancient One stayed with Roger for less than half an hour before getting up to say goodbye.

The two were outwardly polite and engaged in a friendly conversation, exchanging opinions and discussing the future of the Earth.

Before leaving, the Ancient One highly praised the delicious hamburgers at the fast food restaurant downstairs and generously left a few spellbooks as a return gift.

The moment the boiled eggs were removed, the braised egg head arrived right on time.

It was as if they had made a prior arrangement.

Nick Fury, wearing an eye patch and a black trench coat, appeared at the door.

His gaze fell on Roger on the sofa.

“Nice to meet you, Mr. Roger. I am Nick Fury, the director of S.H.I.E.L.D.”

As he spoke, he extended his right hand, attempting to shake hands with Roger.

Roger simply lay slumped on the sofa, offering no response.

Nick Fury's face flashed with embarrassment, and he was probably cursing under his breath, but he quickly withdrew his hand and sat down on the sofa opposite Roger.

As soon as he sat down, his professional instincts as a head of special agents made him sense something was amiss.

The sofa beneath me still retained warmth, and the teacups on the coffee table in front of me showed signs of having been used.

After glancing around the room layout again, Roger's usual workstation was clearly the recliner on the left.

But at this moment, Roger chose to sit on the sofa where guests were being entertained.

Judging from Roger's attitude towards him, it was clearly impossible that he was waiting specifically for him.

Nick Fury took a deep breath and put on his professional fake smile again: "It seems Mr. Roger isn't very welcoming of me."

"But it's okay, I've always enjoyed dealing with people who have personality."

He leaned forward and lowered his voice, saying, "I've come here with sincerity, on behalf of S.H.I.E.L.D., to invite you to join the Avengers."

"Perhaps you're not familiar with S.H.I.E.L.D., let me give you a detailed introduction..."

Before Nick Fury could finish speaking, Roger interrupted him.

"No need. I know more about your Hydra Bureau than you, the bald-headed director."

Upon hearing this, the director's pupils contracted sharply, and a dangerous glint flashed in his single eye.

Roger wasn't surprised that he knew about S.H.I.E.L.D.'s existence.

However, the name "Hydra" left him completely baffled.

"Moreover, Hydra has been eliminated."

Roger slowly sipped his tea: "Do I look like someone who likes to tell jokes?" "Hydra has never been destroyed."

"Your S.H.I.E.L.D. has long been hollowed out by Hydra."

"Of your men, eight or nine out of ten have Hydra employee IDs, and you, with your bald head, are still in the dark, working for Hydra for free."

The bald-faced bureau chief suddenly stood up, his face full of disbelief: "This is absolutely absurd."

"Hydra was wiped out by Captain America back in World War II."

Roger glanced at him.

"Hydra is protecting you from behind."

Chief Bomber felt like the sky had fallen: "You mean former Chief Alexander Pierce?"

Roger sneered, as if looking at a fool: "Still hypnotizing yourself?"

"Hydra has long since infiltrated every corner of S.H.I.E.L.D."

"The reason S.H.I.E.L.D. can still exist is because Hydra needs to draw sustenance from it."

"If S.H.I.E.L.D. becomes powerful, Hydra will become powerful as well. When Hydra feels that S.H.I.E.L.D. is no longer of any use to them, it will reveal its true colors."

"When the time comes, the first person we'll deal with is you, this eyesore of a bureau chief."

The director, nicknamed "Hard-Egg," felt his head buzzing and found it hard to breathe.

He froze before he could finish speaking.

"Just for fun!"

Roger shrugged, spread his hands, and wore a mischievous grin that seemed to enjoy watching the drama unfold.

Nick Fury had lost interest in continuing the conversation.

All he wants to do now is go back and investigate properly.
