Controlling the Five Thunders and the Two Worlds

Chapter 162 Praying for Rain to Extinguish the Fire

Chapter 162 Praying for Rain to Extinguish the Fire
"Fire?" Master Jingfeng looked towards the back mountain. "Then why aren't you putting out the fire?"

"The firefighters have already gone up, but the transportation here is inconvenient and there aren't enough people. They're worried the fire is too big and they're asking us to evacuate first," the middle-aged Taoist priest said.

"Evacuate?" Master Jingfeng frowned. "Can the Scripture Pavilion be moved?"

“Yes!” The middle-aged Taoist priest nodded. “I have already arranged for Hua Yue and Hua Sheng to tidy up the books in the Scripture Pavilion.”

Master Jingfeng was taken aback for a moment, then said, "Let's evacuate first, but leave some people behind to help transport supplies up the mountain. Last time, the wildfire in Shancheng was extinguished by everyone working together, so we can't let ourselves be disgraced this time."

Several young Taoist priests nodded in unison.

Master Jingfeng turned to Gu Zhao and said, "I'm sorry, it seems I can't treat you to lunch. I'll have a car take you back to the county first."

Gu Zhao asked, "Isn't the Taoist priest going to evacuate with us?"

Master Jingfeng pointed to the Fengdu Temple next door, "I still have some things to attend to here. You are welcome to come again anytime after I finish here."

The middle-aged Taoist priest looked at Gu Zhao with confusion, while several younger Taoist priests also looked at Gu Zhao with scrutiny.

Gu Zhao looked at the fire on the mountain behind him and saw thick black smoke billowing out. It wasn't just the mountain behind Fengdu Temple that was on fire; the surrounding mountains on both sides were also ablaze. Coupled with the biting, dry wind blowing in from the north, if the fire wasn't extinguished in time, it could cause considerable damage.

Thinking of this, Gu Zhao looked up at the sky again and saw that the sky was clear and cloudless.

"It's a little troublesome, but not too troublesome."

Gu Zhao thought for a moment, then used his divine sense to send a telepathic message to the old Taoist priests, "Is everyone alright now?"

"It's alright, just let me know if you need anything," Master Yansong replied.

"Is there something you need, Sect Leader?" Daoist Yihong inquired.

"I'm free, do you need me to go back?" Master Mingyu asked.

"There's another wildfire here in the mountain city, on Fengdu Mountain. It's hard to get there because of the inconvenient transportation, and it's difficult for firefighters to get up the mountain. I'm going to bring you here to perform a ritual to pray for rain and put out the fire," Gu Zhao said with a smile.

Master Yansong laughed heartily, “We didn’t encounter a wildfire here at Da Luo Palace, but we didn’t expect to encounter one in the modern world first.”

Master Yihong was a little guilty. "I've read a few books recently, but I've never practiced them, so I might not be very skilled."

Master Mingyu seemed to be right next to Master Yihong, and said with a smile, “This is my old profession. The ‘Dulei Yinshu’ contains spells for summoning clouds and rain. Sect Leader, please take this old Taoist back.”

Gu Zhao replied, "There are no clouds in the sky here, and less moisture, so we might need more magical power. I'll bring everyone back; more people means more power."

After discussing the matter with the three old Taoist priests, Gu Zhao looked around at the people around him and finally nodded to Taoist Priest Jingfeng, "Alright, I will come to visit again after this matter is settled, but there's no need for a carriage."

After saying that, he turned and left, disappearing from Fengdu Temple in a few steps and vanishing on the left side of the road.

Watching Gu Zhao leave, the young Taoist priests exchanged glances, each unable to hide the contempt in their eyes. One of the female Taoist priests couldn't help but mutter under her breath, "I thought he would stay and help."

A male Taoist priest shook his head and tried to smooth things over, saying, "Never mind, they're not locals, they might have something to do."

Another male Taoist priest laughed and said, "At least he didn't make us take him by car."

"Alright, you'd be better off helping out at the temple." Master Jingfeng's expression turned cold, his face as fierce as a ghost king from the underworld, which frightened the young Taoists so much that they all scurried back like quails.

After glancing again in the direction Gu Zhao had left, Master Jingfeng's eyes showed a thoughtful expression.

Just before Gu Zhao left, she clearly gave him a wink, but he didn't understand what Gu Zhao was trying to say.

"It's our first meeting, and we don't have any chemistry yet. Just say what you want to say!" Master Jingfeng shook his head, but he still didn't believe that Gu Zhao would just leave like that, or that he really had something urgent to attend to. Master Jingfeng believed that someone who could cultivate true Daoist Qi in modern society would never be a selfish and petty person.

After thinking about it, he still couldn't figure it out, so Master Jingfeng returned to the temple to direct the evacuation.

Time flew by and it was noon. No one had time to eat lunch, so they just grabbed a couple of steamed buns to tide them over and continued working.

Master Jingfeng was getting old, and after making the trip in the morning, his magical power was completely exhausted. He had also refused Gu Zhao's offer to treat him. At this moment, he felt tired and straightened up, rubbing his lower back.

"Master, you can rest here and just direct us." The middle-aged Taoist priest who had just come to his side was none other than Master Jingfeng's disciple, Master Gu Ning.

Master Jingfeng nodded, "You..."

As soon as he finished speaking, Master Jingfeng's expression changed drastically. He turned around abruptly and looked out the window.

Ordinary people would not notice anything, but he felt an extremely strong fluctuation of magical power suddenly surging out from a certain place in the back mountain. The power was so profound and extensive that it even spread to this place, which was more than ten miles away, and he was able to sense it.

"A deity has descended to earth?"

Master Jingfeng found it unbelievable, because it was impossible for cultivators in the modern world to possess such terrifying magical power. He couldn't think of any other possibility except for a deity descending to earth.

Subconsciously, the wink Gu Zhao gave him flashed through his mind.

Then he felt that immense magical power shoot straight into the sky, and then seemed to disperse in the sky.

"Master, what's wrong?" Daoist Gu Ning asked as he came to his side.

Master Jingfeng did not answer, but simply looked up at the sky.

Following Master Jingfeng's gaze, Master Gu Ning saw a clear blue sky that had darkened slightly, with wisps of clouds gradually appearing and seemingly gathering in the low sky.

But this did not arouse his suspicion, because it is normal to not see the sun in winter.

"The wind is picking up," Master Jingfeng said calmly.

"Is there always a breeze?" Master Gu Ning asked curiously.

Master Jingfeng shook his head. "It's no ordinary wind."

Master Gu Ning blinked blankly, reached out the window to feel around, but didn't notice anything different.

Master Jingfeng continued to observe and discovered that the immense magical power was still merging into the sky, slowly spreading out and expanding to cover the entire burning area.

"The wind rises... the clouds gather... thunder roars... rain falls..."

The sky grew even darker, and Master Gu Ning finally noticed a thin layer of dark clouds obscuring the sun. He exclaimed with delight, "Is it going to rain?"

Then he heard his master's indifferent yet confident voice, "Stop packing, put all the scriptures back."

"Huh?" Master Gu Ning was taken aback, then looked outside again. "But that's not necessarily true, is it? And even if it rains, we don't know how long it will last, and it might not be enough to put out the wildfire."

"Put the scriptures back," Master Jingfeng said again, then turned and left. "I'm going to rest in the meditation room for a while. If Mr. Gu from earlier comes to the temple again later, remember to call me immediately."

"Yes!" Daoist Gu Ning was puzzled, but he still agreed.
