Chapter 350 Gu Wenyu's Funeral

Chapter 350 Gu Wenyu's Funeral (Part Two)

Gu Qiye couldn't quite remember what happened after that day.

He only remembered that on the train back to China, Su Zimai first had red eyes, lowered her head, and stared blankly for a long time. Her face was pale, and her eyes, which had just been lowered, were quickly covered by tears welling up in them.

Only then did she suddenly react, slowly raising her head and looking at him resentfully.

For a long while, she beat and scolded him almost unreasonably, like a hysterical little madwoman.

But later, Su Zimai nestled in his arms and cried for a long, long time.

The light and shadow flickered inside the carriage, like a drunken dream. The girl wept silently, while the young man stared blankly out the window.

They also hoped it was just a dream.

If this were just a dream, how wonderful would that be?

But by then Gu Qiye had no strength left. He couldn't tell if it was a dream or reality. He just sat there quietly, raising his hand to touch Su Zimai's hair.

When Gu Qiye groggily snapped out of her reverie, the sun was already setting. Twilight enveloped the hillside, and a faint crimson glow illuminated Gu Qiye's bewildered profile.

He looked up; the funeral before him was still ongoing, or rather, had not yet begun.

Gu Wenyu's body perished in the fire on the deserted island long ago. The coffin is now empty. A simple altar stands with Gu Wenyu's tombstone.

A white bouquet of flowers surrounded the tombstone.

It was a funeral so simple it was almost laughable. There were no elaborate eulogies, no lavish decorations, only silent people gathered together.

After all, everything happened too hastily and too suddenly. No one could have predicted this unexpected death, and they didn't have time to put much thought into the funeral.
Another reason is that the family members are now either international fugitives, or are being targeted by the Salvation Society, or both. They are international fugitives being targeted by the Salvation Society, so they have to keep a low profile, otherwise they will easily get into trouble. How can they have time to hire professionals to preside over the funeral?

But the main reason is that everyone here knows in their hearts that Gu Wenyu wouldn't like such a formal and solemn funeral.

Therefore, every detail of the funeral arrangements was done very casually, like a makeshift troupe.

This guy was a carefree slacker in life, and he'll probably be a carefree slacker in death too.

If he were standing here, he would definitely say, "Hey, funerals are just something to be done casually. After all, the dead can't jump out of their coffins and kick your butts." Thinking of this, Gu Qiye suddenly chuckled twice for some reason.

He could even imagine the tone of his brother's voice when he said those words. That's the funniest part.

After a moment, Gu Qiye looked away from the tombstone and gazed at Su Zimai standing under the banyan tree in the distance.

Seemingly noticing his gaze, she slowly raised her head, glanced at him silently, and then quickly looked away.

Su Zimai seems to have not forgiven him, and also seems to have not forgiven herself.

She's locked herself in her room for the past two days, curled up by the wardrobe with her knees drawn up to her chest, and hasn't said a word. She didn't eat anything when Gu Qiye brought her food.

At this moment, their eyes met. There was no blame or resentment in Su Zimai's eyes, only emptiness.

"Xiaomai, let's go over there, your older brother is waiting for you." Ke Qirui walked over, put her hand on Su Zimai's shoulder, and led her to Gu Qiye's side.

On the other side, Su Wei adjusted her glasses, walked expressionlessly to Gu Zhuo'an's side, and silently pushed Gu Zhuo'an's shoulder forward with a withered hand.

The family members arrived in front of the ridiculous empty coffin. Gu Zhuoan hung his head, his face gloomy and dark.

A ruler flew out of Su Wei's sleeve. The ruler slowly grew larger, like a shovel, and dug a large pit in front of the tombstone.

Then it flew to the inside of the empty coffin and put it into the pit.

The ruler, swirling with sand, was about to be buried in the pit when Gu Qiye suddenly reached out and stopped his grandfather. Then, under Su Wei's puzzled gaze, he squatted down, slowly scooped up a handful of soil from the ground, and poured it onto the coffin.

In the dead silence, quicksand and clods of earth pounded against the coffin lid, the sound echoing through the cemetery.

Su Zimai stood behind Gu Qiye, silently watching his back as he earnestly and attentively scooped up pieces of soil from the ground and placed them one by one into the pit.

“The revenge has been taken… but the debt is not yet paid off,” Su Wei said hoarsely, his hands behind his back.

“Father-in-law, we need to find the Salvation Society members,” Gu Zhuoan said in a deep voice, his voice trembling slightly.

“No, Wenyu would prefer us to live a good life,” Gu Qiye said. “Let’s stop here, Dad, Grandpa, don’t dwell on it anymore.”

Without turning his head, he lowered his voice and said, "Would you be happy if you caused more people in this family to die for revenge? Would Mom be happy? If she knew... that Wenyu died there because of her."

Gu Zhuo'an and Su Wei both fell silent, speechless. But despite his silence, Gu Zhuo'an's fists remained clenched tightly, his body as hard as iron, and the deep crimson in his pupils lingered.

Su Wei put one hand behind her back and raised the other hand, gently patting Gu Zhuo'an's shoulder.

Su Zimai quickly and silently squatted down, joining Gu Qiye in sprinkling soil into the pit. After a while, the outline of the coffin became increasingly blurred, with clods of earth covering most of the coffin lid.

“What are we doing?” she whispered. “My brother’s body hasn’t even been left behind, yet we’re burying an empty coffin.”

She hadn't spoken for two days, and the words that finally came out of her throat were hoarse.

"I don't know." Gu Qiye shook her head. "If Wen Yu were still alive, he would definitely laugh at us for being idiots."

The two looked up at each other, chuckled softly, and then Su Zimai's eyes suddenly reddened.

As she dug her fingers into the soil and grasped a handful of sand, she said, "I wish he would suddenly jump out of the coffin right now, call us idiots, laugh at us mercilessly, and say that he didn't die at all and was just playing a trick on us."

Gu Qiye was silent for a moment, then said, "Maybe." After saying that, he threw another handful of soil into the pit.

Soon after, the coffin was completely buried in a thick layer of sand. At this moment, Lin Yilong came over and placed a white wild chrysanthemum in front of Gu Wenyu's tombstone.

Actually, Lin Yilong came here for his brother's sake. Lin Zhengquan was also buried here, and now only the territory of Lake Hunting is safe. This is the only place they can visit their loved ones' graves; there are no other viable options.

Lin Yilong stood silently for a moment, "Although we haven't known each other for long, you are a friend worth getting to know better."

Caesar also came over. He didn't bring any flowers, so he left behind a strange fragment with both the front and back blank.

This is a fragment he created using Li Qingping's method; it's a fragment that even ordinary people can use. There's nothing inside the fragment except for a ring. The ring will appear once the fragment is crushed.

This is a ring that the old king once gave to Li Qingping, symbolizing the noble status of the royal court team.

But what middle school student wears a ring to school? When Li Qingping later came to the human world to attend school, he was worried about being punished by the head teacher, so he simply left the precious ring in the miniature garden. When the old king found out about this, he was so angry that he almost got pneumonia.

Later, on the day he destroyed the Royal Court team and left the Whale Garden, Caesar found the ring in Li Qingping's bedroom.

Only now did he realize that the human world friend "Gu Wenyu" whom Li Qingping had been longing for was actually Mr. Black Chrysalis, who had been helping them all along.

So he had the ring made into a fragment of a legend and left it in front of the empty tombstone.

Actually, when Caesar learned the truth from Gu Qiye a couple of days ago, he was shocked and stood there in a daze for a long time, his mouth agape.

He only slowly came to his senses when the little shark in his pocket slapped him hard with its fin.

At that moment, Caesar was thinking, did Li Qingping know that Gu Wenyu was "Black Chrysalis"? And did Black Chrysalis know that Li Qingping was actually "Red Dragon"?

Caesar racked his brains but still couldn't figure out the answer. Maybe when these two were dying, they were both regretting not telling each other their identities?
"What an awkward and contradictory pair of people," he thought to himself.

"Big fluttering moth, Shark commands you to rest in peace underground."

Suddenly, Agubaru popped his head out of his pocket and spoke to the tombstone.

"Shh, Agubaru, hurry back... there are other people here." Caesar whispered, pressing the little shark's head back into his pocket, then turned his head to secretly glance at Zhou Jiuya, who was resting with his eyes closed under the banyan tree.

Zhou Jiuya crossed his arms, then suddenly opened his golden eyes and gave him a cold, indifferent look.

Caesar shuddered and quickly slipped away.

Next to arrive was Ke Qirui.

She thought for a moment, then took a pack of tobacco from her trench coat pocket and placed it in front of the tombstone.

"I know you don't smoke, but I don't have anything good to give you, so that's all." She said softly, "You're so silly, kid... You have a sister who loves you so much, yet you don't cherish her. How can someone be so foolish?"

After saying that, Ke Qirui put her hands in her trench coat pockets, turned around and left.

As dusk settled, a sea breeze blew in, lifting Gu Qiye's bangs. He squinted slightly and turned his head to look in the direction the wind was coming from.

From the mountain, one can see the distant bay. At this moment, the setting sun sank below the horizon, taking away the last rays of light that had fallen on the cemetery. The whole world turned dark, plunging into a pitch-black darkness.

“Brother, we’re home.” Su Zimai reached out and stroked the tombstone, speaking softly.
