Chapter 323 Doubts, Crisis, and Peril (Seeking Monthly Tickets)
Qiao glanced in the direction of the black chrysalis, then turned back and stared intently at Su Wei behind the counter.
His face darkened, his long tail stood on end, and he questioned, almost word by word:
"Didn't you bring a friend along too?"
The atmosphere in the bookstore changed in an instant. Even the echoing jazz music couldn't change the pervasive murderous intent. Su Wei frowned slightly, seemingly not expecting Qiao's senses to be so sharp, noticing the presence of the black cocoon the moment she entered the store.
At this very moment, the black pupa remained in the form of a transparent giant pupa, hanging motionless upside down below the ceiling.
He narrowed his eyes, thinking that this was the third time his invisibility had been discovered. Sure enough, in front of top-tier individuals like Gu Qiye, Lin Xingshi, and the Four Bee Lords, as long as they got too close, even if they used camouflage restraints to conceal their presence, they would still be discovered.
Should I go out on my own initiative? Black Chrysalis wondered, but her grandfather had said that she should never reveal herself without his permission, so it was best if she didn't make any rash moves.
Su Wei met Qiao's gaze and remained silent for a moment. He thought to himself that fighting the two horde lords here would not benefit them at all.
Their plan was to weaken Rainbow Wing's fighting power by using the four Bee Lords to disperse them. Then, taking advantage of Rainbow Wing's weakened defenses and lack of preparedness, they would launch a surprise attack to capture the four spies planted by the Salvation Society within Rainbow Wing, and at the same time kill the Puppet Father to avenge Su Ying.
Therefore, engaging in a confrontation with two homing bees here would be entirely detrimental to them.
"This is my bookstore, is it strange that there are other customers?" Su Wei said, taking off her glasses and slowly wiping them. "Or do you think I should keep the entire bookstore empty for you, ready to welcome you anytime?"
“I can accept other customers in the bookstore, but I can’t accept that person hiding,” Joe said coldly. “Human, are you trying to fool me?”
He crossed his arms, tilted his head, and a chilling aura emanated from his golden pupils.
It was a thick, almost tangible killing intent, mixed with an indescribable mystery and chilling coldness, like a foreign monster from the bottom of the abyss gently knocking on the window of the world with its claws, about to break free.
"Joe, should we kill them?" Cameron tilted his head, then suddenly smiled, his lips curling into a wide grin.
She had originally thought she and Joe were just there to play house with humans, but things had turned out this way as soon as she stepped inside, which suited her just as well.
Cameron never thought humans were trustworthy beings; rather, he saw it as absurd that someone at the top of the food chain would seek understanding and trust from their prey. Joe was just that kind of absurd guy.
Joe remained silent, only lowering his head, his expression growing increasingly gloomy.
At this moment, Su Wei finally spoke, saying to the black pupa, "Come out, stop hiding."
Upon hearing this, the black pupa slowly untied its camouflage restraints, revealing its true form.
Qiao stared coldly at Su Wei for a couple of seconds before turning her head away. What came into view was a giant pupa. The next moment, the pupa slowly opened, and a figure wearing a black trench coat and a dark red mask appeared.
Black Chrysalis remained silent, looking at Joe with composure and ease, and waved a restraint strap at him.
"Hello, Queen of the Bees, allow me to introduce myself. I am—" He raised his hand to his forehead, his expression suddenly turning serious, and solemnly introduced himself, "Swallow, Silver!"
Su Wei remained silent. After a moment, his face suddenly darkened.
The atmosphere was already heavy enough, but his grandson actually added fuel to the fire by making such an absurd joke at a life-or-death moment. He was simply fearless.
But then Su Wei suddenly laughed, a laugh born of anger. He thought, Su Ying was like that when she was little, often making inappropriate jokes in serious situations.
As he laughed, Su Wei relaxed, because his son-in-law had arrived. His earlier worry was that Gu Zhuo hadn't even returned from the basement yet, and the two powerful figures had already made their move—assuming that happened, protecting Gu Wenyu would be quite difficult.
Now there's no such concern. Gu Zhuoan sensed the murderous intent that Da Feng Hou Qiao had emitted just a moment ago, so he rushed over from the basement and is now hiding in the shadows of the underground passage.
As soon as the other side decides to make a move, he will use the clock tower to pause time and join the battle.
Even though their opponents were two queen bees, beings standing at the top of the Light-Eating Bee clan, Gu Zhuo'an did not believe that he and Su Wei would lose. Moreover, there was also that fluttering moth—the black pupa could suppress the superpowers of others, and it would work on the Light-Eating Bee as well.
The important thing is that, no matter what, the other side cannot possibly engage in a prolonged battle with them in a human city.
"I was just worried that you had bad intentions because you brought an extra person with you this time, so I had him hide first," Su Wei said. "If you have other opinions, then I can't explain anything more. I've already said what I needed to say."
Joe stared silently at the black pupa, and Cameron stared at it strangely as well. Both of the lord bees seemed to sense something extraordinary about the black pupa, and they froze in place for a moment, even taking a step back silently.
Why am I afraid? Cameron paused, then looked down at his trembling right hand.
Joe's face showed confusion, deep confusion.
Black Chrysalis squinted and sniffed herself. "I don't think I have any weird smell... right?"
Su Wei was equally puzzled, wondering why these two light-devouring bees were so wary of his grandson.
Joe frowned, raised his tail and pointed at the black pupa, asking Su Wei, "Who is he?"
“This is another guest of mine, we usually call him ‘Black Chrysalis’,” Su Wei said.
Joe stared unblinkingly at the black chrysalis, their eyes meeting. After a moment, he murmured:
"It's very strange... It doesn't seem to be human, no... It's a kind of existence that I can't understand. Could it be... a higher-level existence than the Light-Eating Bee? But that's impossible."
"What do you mean by that?" Su Wei looked up and asked, puzzled.
He never expected that the Bee Lord would make such a comment about his own grandson; it was simply unbelievable.
"Never mind, it's fine..."
Qiao remained expressionless as he withdrew his gaze from the black cocoon.
He turned to look at Su Wei and said, "It was indeed my presumption. I didn't say beforehand that I would be bringing one more person this time, so it's normal for you to be wary."
As soon as he finished speaking, Joe gradually withdrew his murderous intent, and the tense atmosphere suddenly cleared up, with light and elegant jazz music lingering in everyone's ears.
Wow, so reasonable? Black Chrysalis was stunned for a moment, then scratched her chin, thinking to herself that the Light-Eating Bee wasn't as brutal as she had imagined.
Cameron blinked her long, narrow eyes, her eyelashes fluttering, before belatedly realizing that a fight was out of the question. Even if she wanted to, Joe would stop her.
So she found a corner and squatted down, drawing circles with her paws while sighing.
"Boring. If we're not going to fight, I'm going back to sleep." She rubbed her chin and complained irritably. "Since you just don't want anyone to know where you've come from, you won't need me on the way back, right? Just fly back to the island."
“No… wait for me outside,” Joe said firmly. “Don’t go too far.” “Alright, perfect, I can find some fun on the way.” Cameron licked his lips, got up and walked out of the bookstore.
Qiao was silent for a moment, then raised his tail, and Su Wei and Hei Chang saw that three thick books were hooked on his tail.
“I’ve finished reading the book,” he said.
Su Wei was taken aback, and Hei Chang was also stunned for a moment.
"The reading speed of the Light-Eating Bees is truly astonishing. If it were a human, it would be difficult to digest these three thick books for several months, right?" Su Wei raised her eyebrows and smiled.
"Don't compare me to humans."
"Looks like you, the queen bee, have quite a bit of free time."
“Those superhumans haven’t made a move yet, and I have nothing to do on the island.” Joe said, using his tail to place three books on the bookshelf. Black Chrysalis glanced at them; the covers were well-preserved and not scratched. Then he curiously looked at Joe’s claws.
He thought, "Hmm, judging from the length of this bee mate's nails, he must have been quite gentle when he turned the pages of the book."
“There’s nothing to do right now, but those superhumans will be making their move soon, so let me give you a heads-up.” Su Wei took a sip of tea.
"Would you make a move?" Joe suddenly asked.
“No, out of principle, I will neither help you nor those people.” Su Wei shook her head. “But it’s hard to say once your battle is over.”
"Principles... are you worried that by helping me, humanity's strongest fighting force will be wiped out by us, and in the end, the Light-Eating Bees will be unstoppable and rule the world?" Joe asked.
"That's not the case. But ultimately, I am still a human being and should adhere to the basic principles of being human, so I shouldn't interfere in your war."
Joe lowered his head and thought for a moment: "If I'm not mistaken, you have a grudge against those superhumans, so you want to use us to reduce their fighting strength."
“I don’t deny it,” Su Wei said without looking up.
"So, you're so sure we'll die at the hands of those superhumans?"
Su Wei sighed and said, "Your race has a really keen sense of smell; you must possess some kind of mental ability?"
"I can't think of any other reason to explain why you powerful beings are hiding here without taking the opportunity to attack me."
As he spoke, Joe turned his head and stared unblinkingly toward the entrance to the underground passage. "If you were with those superhumans, you would have used this opportunity to capture me and use me to threaten the rest of the Bee Clan. But you didn't."
Su Wei glanced out of the corner of her eye in the direction Qiao was looking, and realized that Qiao had also become aware of the existence of the Gu Zhuo case.
He looked away and silently turned the pages of the book.
"Su Wei, what if I kill all those superhumans?" Qiao suddenly asked.
"What do you want to say?"
Su Wei looked up and glanced at him through her glasses.
“The mere mention of them sends a whiff of hatred through your expressions. I can see that you loathe Rainbow Wings.” Joe said expressionlessly. “I can help you kill them.”
"Don't be so arrogant. I don't think you can beat them." Su Wei casually adjusted her glasses.
"If our Light-Eating Bee clan wins in the end, will you take over Rainbow Wing's duties, stand on the side of humanity, and wipe us out in one fell swoop?" Qiao said coldly, slowly lowering his face.
Su Wei was silent for a moment, then suddenly smiled, "So this is what you care about."
He paused for a moment, then said, "Let me put it this way: if you can really destroy Rainbow Wings, we won't stop you for the sake of human lives... At that time, either the 'Salvation Society' or an organization called 'Lake Hunters' will stand in your way." He looked up at Joe, "If you can defeat them, then you can have whatever you want."
“Very good, then I’m relieved.” Joe lowered his head. “Human… Although we’ve only met once, I admire you. I don’t want to be your enemy.”
"I'm not someone who wants to get into trouble. Logically speaking, I should have been resting at my age long ago," Su Wei said irritably.
Joe looked at his face, as if trying to confirm whether he was lying.
After a moment of silence, Qiao asked, "What books should I read next? The books you recommended before were too superficial and couldn't meet my needs at all. If you keep giving me the runaround, I'll kill you."
His voice turned cold as he finished speaking.
Black Chrysalis held up one finger. "I understand. This is the time to give him a book on advanced mathematics! Right, Mr. Su Wei?"
"Shut up, I wasn't asking you," Qiao said coldly.
"Okay, I won't disturb your human-insect friendship." Black Chrysalis nodded and lowered her head to continue reading the comic.
"And the answer?" Joe asked.
“You use this tone when asking someone a question,” Su Wei said. “Go to the third row of the fifth bookshelf. Pick any books you like. I think you’ll be satisfied.”
Qiao snorted and moved toward the fifth bookshelf that Su Wei had mentioned. He used the back of his hand to drop a whole row of books down and then tucked them under his arms.
He nodded slightly, paused for a moment, then looked up again. "There are too many. I can't take them all back; they'll get damaged during the flight. I'll read two here first."
Su Wei glanced at her watch and said without hesitation, "Just a reminder, I close the shop at five o'clock."
"There are still three hours left, there's enough time."
As Joe spoke, he suddenly turned to look at the black cocoon, "Your name is Swallowing Silver... right?"
Black Pupa nodded and said calmly, "Yes, sir, you can also call me Silver Swallowing Rat."
“You make me feel very uncomfortable because I can’t smell anything on you…” Joe said coldly. “So, don’t hang around me, it’s making it impossible for me to concentrate on my book.”
"Okay, sir, I'll be going now. It's time for me to be a good boy who goes to bed early and gets up early, otherwise someone will get angry." After saying that, Black Chrysalis put the comic book into the restraints, and then wrapped her whole body in transparent restraints.
He swung out of the Osaka bookstore, his restraints swaying, and disappeared into the darkness.
