Chapter 285 Death, Out of Control, Promise

Chapter 285 Death, Out of Control, Promise (Seeking Monthly Tickets)

Ji Minghuan tapped her fingers absentmindedly on the table, making a soft clattering sound. She was tilting her head back, lost in thought, waiting for her mentor to speak.

The silvery-white prison cell was silent, like a deserted, desolate lake.

“Kong Youling, a few days ago when we were helping her develop her abilities…” the mentor paused, “she accidentally killed several test subjects.” The sudden words were like a torrential rain, creating ripples on the surface of a lake.

Ji Minghuan was taken aback, then slowly raised his head and stared at his mentor without moving.

"Does she know it herself?" he asked softly.

"She fainted at the time and probably didn't know what she had done. I was trying my best to keep it from her."

“You don’t need to hide it from her at all, as long as you don’t do it in the first place.”

The mentor shook his head. "Our people merely approached her and unleashed her powers. In an instant, they all went into a state of brain death, but their bodies still maintained basic vital signs."

"Why is this happening?"

“Because her abilities are evolving,” the mentor said softly. “There is another reason. During the days we suppressed her powers with the collar, we actually prevented her mental energy from leaking out naturally. So once it is suddenly released, this immense mental energy will pour out uncontrollably.”

"Oh, so isn't that your fault?"

“You want her to be an ordinary person, but with her qualifications, it’s impossible for her to be an ordinary person; without the Salvation Society, with her potential, she will be discovered by the country sooner or later,” the mentor said. “Only we can give you a stable life. As long as we find the key, we can definitely do it.”

Ji Minghuan remained silent.

He finished the milk in one gulp, casually pushed the empty bottle aside, and glanced up at his advisor.

“Are you all crazy?” he said.

"To be honest, we never imagined this would happen," the mentor said. "I had previously researched and learned the reason for Kong Youling's deafness, and I've been helping her slowly regain her hearing these past few days; so I was wondering if her inability to speak was also due to the influence of her psychic abilities, so..."

"Stop pretending, what exactly do you want to do?" Ji Minghuan asked, enunciating each word clearly. "You don't really want to use her abilities to hypnotize those people from the Lake Hunt, do you?"

The mentor remained silent and shook his head.

"Remember to keep this from her," Ji Minghuan whispered. "Don't let her know that I accidentally killed one of your men, or I'll kill you all."

"I know."

"Okay, I want to see her."

“She’s on her way,” the tutor said. “Wait a minute.”

After he finished speaking, a brief silence fell between the two of them.

The cell was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Ji Minghuan rested his chin on his hand and tapped the table lightly with his fingers. The instructor took out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, lit it with a lighter, took a deep drag, and then exhaled a puff of smoke.

The mentor lowered his head and said softly, "Julius, it was a pity he died."

"Were you and the officer close?" Ji Minghuan looked up and asked tentatively, "His death, is it worth being so sad?"

The mentor remained silent, only raising his hand to take a drag of his cigarette. Smoke swirled around his fingertips.

After a moment, he exhaled a puff of smoke and said:

“Yes, we’ve known each other for quite a while. Julius is one of the most senior members of the Salvation Society. The Salvation Society was founded hundreds of years ago, and Julius is already 150 years old. He was seriously injured by a passing Restricted 1001 during the Battle of Verdun a hundred years ago. The Salvation Society found Julius on the battlefield, rescued him, and so he joined us.”

The mentor paused, then said with a sigh, "In the past hundred years, the Salvation Society has changed several times, and among the older generation, only Julius is still alive."

"Oh, you must be very angry, right? The White Raven Brigade killed him?" Ji Minghuan asked curiously.

“No, I’m just blaming myself.” The mentor shook his head. “I suggested sending reinforcements, but Julius thought it wasn’t necessary. If I had insisted on placing one or two people in New Leaf Township prison as support, Julius wouldn’t be in this situation; at the very least, he could have evacuated the prison.”

“Isn’t that his problem?” Ji Minghuan said. “A self-righteous idiot.”

"He was actually a very good person, just a bit short-tempered, but very kind to his subordinates. When I first joined the Salvation Society, I was assigned to work under Julius."

At this point, the mentor paused: "He looks stern, but he has a soft heart. Every time we go out on a mission, Julius will try his best to take all the dangers on his own shoulders. Once he said to me, 'I'm so old, I'll definitely go to the grave before you. Come visit me with two bottles of red wine when you have time.' I never thought... that it would really come true."

He lowered his voice: "A man who was once known as the 'King of War' died at the hands of a group of bandits. He must have felt very aggrieved. When I first met him, he was so proud. At that time, he didn't realize that he was old and there were things he could no longer do."

In conclusion, the mentor chuckled softly and took a drag of his cigarette.

Ji Minghuan shrugged, too lazy to respond, and simply leaned back in his chair, tapping the table lightly with his right index finger.

He thought, "It's okay, I'll send you to see him in a month."

After a moment of silence, he suddenly asked, "By the way, am I going to be able to see my brother and that Zeus guy?"

“No, wait a little longer,” the mentor said. “Don’t rush, you will see him soon.”

"Actually, I was just curious. I didn't want to meet them at all, especially my brother."

“You two will have to meet eventually,” the mentor said confidently.

"Alright, alright, actually I'm not interested in listening to your complaints. What about the old officer who physically punishes children but is kind-hearted despite his cold exterior, what about the Light-Eating Bees, what about the brigade? None of that concerns me. That's a matter between you adults."

"I'm sorry for bringing your negative emotions to you."

"Don't apologize, I need to see Kong Youling." Ji Minghuan looked up at him. "Didn't you say she was on her way? It's been so long, why haven't I seen her yet?"

"She...it seems she said she's not coming." The tutor glanced at the tablet in his hand. "Why?" Ji Minghuan frowned.

"It's still unclear, but I'll take you to her." With that, the tutor stubbed out his cigarette, casually stuffed the butt into the pocket of his white coat, and then got up and left the cell.

Ji Minghuan followed silently behind. As always, the outside of the prison was filled with blindingly bright light.

After a while, the two walked through a maze-like, winding corridor, and then the instructor stopped.

The mentor watched Ji Minghuan walk into the cell. Ji Minghuan turned her head and watched the metal door slowly close. The man's somber face disappeared into the gap, his expression one of sadness and exhaustion lasting until the very last second.

"What a cunning old fox, putting on a convincing act," Ji Minghuan thought to himself before turning around.

He blinked and looked curiously at the silver-white dormitory room in front of him.

In comparison, Kong Youling's room had many more things, such as penguin dolls and fox dolls on the bed, as well as pretty patterned sheets and a bookshelf.

The bookshelves were filled with cartoon books. The television was playing "Doraemon," with Nobita and Doraemon being chased by dinosaurs. The noisy fighting sounds came from the television screen, but otherwise, the cell was silent, like a deep sea.

Looking around, Ji Minghuan finally found a figure in the corner of the room. There, a white-haired girl in a hospital gown was curled up in the corner, covered with a blanket.

Scattered on the ground were pages torn from a notebook, covered with messy black lines, circles of lines piled up, meaningless strokes.

She hung her head, hugged her knees, and remained motionless, like a broken little robot.

Ji Minghuan walked over, looked at the painting on the ground, and asked softly, "What's wrong?"

Kong Youling then lifted her eyes from her knees, revealing a pair of misty eyes beneath her white bangs.

“I…did something bad.” (Writes)

"what have you done?"

Kong Youling wanted to write, but she couldn't lift the pen. Suddenly, she clutched her head, as if startled, and lowered her head, her white hair drooping over her face.

Ji Minghuan was stunned for a moment, then sat down next to her, leaning against the wall.

"It's okay, if you don't want to talk about it, that's fine." He thought for a moment, then gestured with his finger on the ground, keeping it within her sight.

After he finished writing, he turned his head and looked into her eyes seriously and quietly.

After a long, long time, Kong Youling picked up a pencil and slowly began to write. She wrote and erased, wrote and erased again, until finally tears fell silently, pattering onto the notebook and blurring her crooked handwriting.

She lowered her hands and put down the notebook. Her lips moved slightly, as if silently lip-reading:
Am I a bad person?

"Don't be afraid, they were all bad people. They were the ones who were wrong. It's all their fault for having ill intentions, which is why they died." Ji Minghuan lowered his head, his bangs obscuring his eyes.

He pulled her head even tighter. "So what if you're a bad guy? Then I'll be the worse one... It's okay, don't hate yourself. Anyway... I'll kill them all without leaving a trace sooner or later."

A moment later, only after confirming that the white-haired girl was sound asleep nestled in his arms did Ji Minghuan remove his gaze from her face. He slowly raised his head, his dark, empty eyes fixed on the monitor.

He said something silently, and no one could hear him.

At 7:30 a.m. on August 9th, Japan time, Xia Pingzhou woke up on the roof of the attic.

He opened his eyes, glanced at the time on his phone, then slowly sat up and looked out at the hazy horizon where the sea met the sky, staring blankly at the rising sun on the horizon for a while.

A moment later, he brought up the main quest panel and checked the situation after the prison break mission ended.

[Main Quest 1 (Stage 5): Automatically unlocked after a certain time point.]

Main Quest Two (Phase Two): Infiltrate the White Raven Brigade and assassinate its second member—"Jack the Ripper." (Only 21 days remain until the quest deadline of September 1st.)

[Note: If you fail to complete Main Mission 2 before the time limit expires, your mech will be automatically destroyed.]

Xia Pingzhou glanced at the deadline, closed the panel, and descended from the edge of the roof into the attic, stepping off the windowsill and onto the floor. Then, he casually picked up a copy of "Rashomon" from the bookshelf, held it high, and then released it.

The book slammed to the floor with a thud, and Ayase Origami woke up on the bed, opening her eyes.

"It's fogged up," she said.

While looking at his phone messages, Xia Pingzhou said, "I should be awake by now. Staying in bed will mess up my biological clock. I'm going to make something to eat; someone's coming over later."

After saying that, he went into the washroom to quickly wash up, and casually prepared a toothbrush and toothpaste for Origami Ayase. Then, he stepped down the wooden stairs with a creaking sound, reached the door, and pulled open the gate.

Sunlight streamed through the glass door, and the wind chimes tinkled softly. He looked up and saw two figures standing outside the glass door, waiting.

One was a girl with long, straight black hair wearing a school uniform, holding a dark red scabbard; the other was a long-haired man wearing a white shirt and frameless glasses, who smiled at Xia Pingzhou.

Rukawa Chiba said, "Nice to meet you."

The Ripper said, "Open the door."

Xia Pingzhou glanced at the two of them, then silently pushed open the glass door, turned around and went into the kitchen. While brewing coffee, he kept an eye on the situation outside.

Halfway there, the Ripper suddenly summoned the Sky Chaser, gripped the demon sword in his right hand, and then stabbed Rukawa Chiba in the chest!
