Chapter 157 Ferral Child (First Update, Requesting Monthly Tickets)

The moment Sun Changkong stepped into the cell, he suddenly regretted it.

She paused, her gaze passing through the brim of her baseball cap as she looked sideways at Ji Minghuan and Kong Youling's retreating figures.

As if she had seen something extremely bright and dazzling, she tilted her head back, opened her mouth wide in a daze, and her little tiger teeth reflected the light in the cold light.

After a long while, she realized that neither of them had noticed her.

Sun Changkong slowly closed his mouth, and the surprise in his eyes gradually faded.

She was neither disappointed nor unhappy; she simply pouted and quietly watched the backs of Kong Youling and Ji Minghuan, who were getting along well.

It took Sun Changkong a long time to realize what was happening. A thought suddenly struck her, and she realized something very important.

For him, Ji Minghuan was his only new friend.
But for Ji Minghuan... she was just one of his friends, and the two had only known each other for a few days. No, no, they hadn't even spent half an hour together.

Of course... that's okay, she can become good friends with them in the future.

But even if she went over there now, what could she talk to them about?

Online game? Movie? Or animated film?
Sun Changkong doesn't understand any of this. Yes... she doesn't understand anything and has nothing.

That's why other children called him a "wild child".

She was a homeless child from a young age, always wandering in the mountains and villages. She didn't even know how to use a cell phone, let alone a computer, and she had no connection with televisions.

The only time she ever saw television was when she was tired from playing on the mountain, so she secretly ran into someone's yard and curiously peeked through the crack in the door. She saw children sitting around the television, chatting and laughing about the plot.

The setting sun was red, and the slanting sunlight shone on Sun Changkong's face.

She watched their retreating figures expressionlessly, her expression unreadable—it was neither melancholy nor resentment, but simply…

Suddenly I feel envious of them.

I envy them for having TVs to watch and family to take care of them, while I can only run around in the mountains. It seems like I'm very free, as if the whole mountain belongs to me, but if there's no one to share these things with, then no matter how much I have, it's just deceiving myself.

Sun Changkong still remembers that the cartoon that the group of children watched was about a robot cat and a yellow little man. Later, she learned from her teacher that the cartoon was called "Doraemon".

She also learned the theme song of that animation from her tutor, and would hum it for a while every day, close her eyes, and imagine that if she had clean clothes to wear and parents to protect her, she could walk in confidently...

Would they welcome him? Just thinking about it made Sun Changkong very happy.

But now… staring at Ji Minghuan and Kong Youling chatting and laughing around the TV, Sun Changkong suddenly felt like he had returned to that time.

She seemed to have turned back into that dirty, wild child, and her heart grew colder and colder.

Yes, wild children are only fit to peek at other people's lives from outside the door, and then run away without looking back.

But actually, nobody knew that she didn't want to be an orphan.

If there were no other choice, who would want to be a wild child?
If possible, Sun Changkong also wants to have a home.

She wanted to sit in front of the TV with her siblings, instead of hiding outside and secretly watching their backs, only to be chased away with a broom, then huddled in a corner of the alley, drawing circles on the ground with her finger and muttering to herself:

"Pshaw, they're not free at all, they have their parents watching over them... I can play alone in the mountains, play until really late and no one will scold me, no one will drag me home and give me a good scolding. I'm... way better than them!"

Even though she was so free and capable, she still couldn't make any friends. Adults told their children not to play with her, saying she was dirty and naughty, and might even have some infectious disease.

Later on...

She finally found a kind person to adopt her, finally found a place to belong to her, finally found people who didn't call her a "wild child," but those people were all killed by her.

Then, when she opened her eyes, she found herself in this cold, desolate place.

Every day when she wakes up, strange, robot-like people come to ask her questions and perform various examinations on her.

But Sun Changkong knew he had nothing left, so he didn't make a scene or get heartbroken. He just stayed there quietly, numbly like a corpse, eating, sleeping, and waiting to die.

The daily routine... seems to have an end in sight.

But ever since her mentor told her two weeks ago, "You'll be able to make friends very soon."

Sun Changkong was stunned for a while, then his eyes lit up, and he suddenly felt as if his life had been given a glimmer of light.

She looked forward to seeing this friend every day, sometimes so excited that she couldn't sleep, constantly thinking about how to make a good impression on him.

Making friends… she had never made any friends. But she was also very worried: would she be disliked? Would that person hate her? Throw stones at her like the village children, and call her a wild child?

Before meeting her new friends, she asked her mentor for a baseball cap, saying she wanted to look more fashionable and less like a country bumpkin in front of them.

The tutor smiled gently and granted her request.

The day finally arrived when Sun Changkong went to see his "friend." He put on a baseball cap, mustered his courage, and walked over in a majestic and pretentious manner!
Despite being incredibly nervous and terrified of being disliked, she still pretended to be calm and chatted with Ji Minghuan.

It's as if he has many friends and doesn't need another one.

But Sun Changkong was anything but calm. In fact, she was very happy, so happy that she was about to jump for joy... She would often secretly open one eye and observe Ji Minghuan's expression out of the corner of her eye.

Despite this, she still had to pretend to be a capable person. Because she was afraid of being looked down upon, just like the children in the village called her a "wild child."

She was worried that Ji Minghuan would scold her, saying that she was a bumpkin who had never even watched cartoons.

But Ji Minghuan neither scolded her nor looked down on her. The two chatted very naturally, as if they had known each other for a long time.

Sun Changkong suddenly felt stupid. What was he so nervous about?
So she said a lot to him all at once, as if she had finally let out all the things she had kept bottled up inside for so many years.

Even when she told him that she had accidentally killed many, many people and was a big bad guy, Ji Minghuan didn't show any fear... nor did she dislike him.

Instead, he calmly said to her, "So what? I'm going to destroy the world someday. You're just a little Karami."

At that moment, Sun Changkong sat cross-legged on the Somersault Cloud, staring blankly with his head down for a long time, and suddenly felt that he didn't hate himself as much anymore.

She thought to herself: So there are many people in the world just like me.

If she could, Sun Changkong would actually like to be an interesting and fashionable person, and share more things with him. But she was empty-headed, a fool, a wild child, a jinx... Adults and children alike hated her, and those who tolerated her were killed by her.

The only thing she could share with others was her life in the mountains.

She ran around on the mountain alone, shouting and yelling. When she got tired, she would sit on the mountaintop and watch the grass grow and the birds fly. When the sun set, she would slink back to the village, hug her knees, sit on the mountainside, and look at the lights of thousands of homes in the distance.

Many places in the village were lit up, but none of them belonged to her.

Sun Changkong felt that a fashionable kid like Ji Minghuan would definitely not be interested in life in the mountains.

So she thought and thought, and finally had no choice but to show Ji Minghuan her somersault cloud.

She never let anyone else ride on her somersault cloud, because it was the most fashionable thing this wild child had!

She has no Gundam robot, no expensive cell phone, no parents, no friends. If even the Somersault Cloud is rejected, then she will truly have nothing left.

But perhaps her most precious somersault cloud wasn't nearly as appealing as those colorful cartoons on TV. Thinking of this, Sun Changkong's nose suddenly turned red.

"Don't cry...don't cry...don't cry..."

She wrinkled her nose, stared at Kong Youling and Ji Minghuan's backs, then looked at the cartoon on TV that she couldn't understand at all. She leaned against the door, stood there dumbfounded for a long time, hiding her red eyes under the brim of her baseball cap.

At this moment, Sun Changkong suddenly lost his stubbornness.

She suddenly had a strong urge to run away, to run back to that mountain.

Actually, being a wild child no one loves is better than being pelted with stones and ostracized by other children… Only now does she realize how pathetic she looked when she grinned and tried to approach them, only to be pushed away by the other children. Only she knows how heartbroken she was back then.

Kong Youling suddenly noticed Sun Changkong standing blankly at the door out of the corner of her eye.

She glanced at Sun Changkong, then at Ji Minghuan, quickly scribbled something in her notebook, and then asked Ji Minghuan, who was intently watching television:
"who is she?"

Ji Minghuan looked at the words on the notebook, then raised an eyebrow and turned half of her face to look at Sun Changkong.

Sun Changkong stood at the door with his baseball cap pulled low, rubbing his eyes and turning his face away forcefully. His ears were bright red, as if he wished he could ride a somersault cloud and fly to the sky.

Ji Minghuan felt somewhat confused, thinking that this "big sister" who was a few months younger than him was not as outgoing as he had imagined.

“Her name is Sun Changkong,” he said, turning to Kong Youling.

"Sun Wukong?" Kong Youling asked.

"Sun Wukong would also work."

After saying that, Ji Minghuan suddenly picked up a White Rabbit candy from the plate next to her buttocks and threw it at Sun Changkong behind her without turning her head.

Sun Changkong reached out and caught the White Rabbit candy.

"Big Sister, what are you doing?" Ji Minghuan turned to look at her and urged loudly, "Come and watch the movie with us, or our advisor will kick us out to sleep later!"

Sun Changkong was stunned for a moment, then rubbed his eyes hard as if he hadn't cried, and put on a smug expression.

After hesitating for a moment, she strode over to the television and sat down next to Ji Minghuan.

“What are you looking at?” she asked.

"The Robot's Dream".

“Oh, I’ve seen this before, I know it inside and out!” Sun Changkong said casually.

Ji Minghuan chewed on a White Rabbit candy and said without turning her head, "Then don't spoil it, okay? None of us have seen it."

Kong Youling also wrote in the notebook, then held it up for her to see: "Spoilers? No spoilers."

The girl looked serious, her soft white hair swaying gently as she touched the words written in pencil.

Sun Changkong turned his head to look at the words on the notebook.

She didn't actually understand what spoilers meant, nor did she know what "No" meant, but she still nodded and said with great confidence:
"Of course."

The three of them watched TV quietly for a while. Sun Changkong stared at the movie screen, his heart pounding, feeling as if he were an undercover agent infiltrating the enemy army.

A moment later, Sun Changkong glanced at Kong Youling through Ji Minghuan, then whispered to Ji Minghuan:
"Ji Minghuan, who is she?"

“My good friend,” Ji Minghuan said.

Sun Changkong belatedly realized and said, "Oh, I know, she's the 'white-haired friend' you were talking about?"

Ji Minghuan nodded: "That's right, but she can't hear you or speak."

"Really?" Sun Changkong raised a fiery red eyebrow.

"Really, otherwise why would we communicate using notebooks?"

Seemingly sensing that the two were talking about her, Kong Youling tilted her head slightly, her red eyes fixed on them.

Sun Changkong, seemingly unconvinced, suddenly turned his head and rattled off a long string of words to her at a rapid pace:
"You're so beautiful, just like a porcelain doll. And this is the first time I've ever seen white hair, I really want to touch it. What's your name? My name is Sun Changkong, taken from Sun Wukong in 'Journey to the West'."

Kong Youling stared blankly for a while, then wrote something in her notebook and held it up to show her:

"My name is Kong Youling."

Upon seeing the name on the notebook, Sun Changkong's ears and cheeks immediately turned red.

She paused for a moment, then frowned her fiery red eyebrows, turned to Ji Minghuan and said, "You lied to me! Didn't you say she couldn't hear me?"

"She can't hear, but she can read lips," Ji Minghuan said calmly.

Why didn't you say so sooner?

“If you don’t mind the trouble, you can communicate with her using a notebook, just like I do.” Ji Minghuan shrugged. “That’s how we usually communicate.”

"Who are you looking down on?"

As she spoke, Sun Changkong's hospital gown suddenly flashed with a strange light, and the fragments of the strange tale in her heart burst forth with fiery red light, flowing between her blood vessels and finally spreading throughout her entire body.

Ji Minghuan and Kong Youling were stunned for a moment, then looked over at the same time. Their faces were illuminated by the light, like bright red apples.

Then a cloud formed in the sky above the prison cell, like a white wave.

Sun Changkong raised a finger and manipulated the clouds to change shape in mid-air. Sometimes the white clouds turned into a line of words: "Impressive, right?" and sometimes they turned into another line of words: "I can write words with my somersault cloud."

Kong Youling slightly widened her red eyes, clapped her hands vigorously, and wrote in her notebook for her to see: "So amazing!"

Opening one eye halfway and catching sight of the three words on the notebook, Sun Changkong immediately raised the corners of his mouth, revealing his little tiger teeth, and said smugly, "Of course I'm amazing, even Ji Minghuan has to call me Big Sister."

"……real?"

Kong Youling turned to look at Ji Minghuan, seemingly disbelieving that Ji Minghuan would acknowledge someone else as his boss.

Ji Minghuan was focused on the television and was about to deny it: "I didn't..."

After thinking for a moment, he put a White Rabbit candy in his mouth and changed his mind, saying, "Okay, she's the boss."

Kong Youling wrote in her notebook for Sun Changkong to see: "Then you are also my big sister."

Looking at the line of text in the notebook, Sun Changkong curled his lips into a smile, revealing a canine tooth, and rubbed his nose with his index finger.

"Okay, I'll protect you from now on," she said confidently.
