Chapter 280 A Fateful Choice
When the countdown reached ten seconds, Su Wanqing shouted into the air, "I choose the fourth path."

The jade bracelet vibrated with a "hum," and a blue light shot out with a "whoosh," condensing into streams of data in front of the control panel before plunging directly into the interface of the metal panel.

"Quickly, stop her!" The weaver's voice was like scraping glass, mixed with a sharp buzzing sound.

Several Weaver guards in silver uniforms rushed in from both sides in an instant, their leather shoes making a "clattering" sound as they hit the metal ground.

Xiao Ran twirled his gun and stood in front of Su Wanqing. The last two bullets in the gun "thudded" into the legs of the nearest guard, who staggered two steps and fell, knocking over the instrument rack next to him.

Lin Che squatted in the corner, his back pressed against the scalding pipe. Blue light surged beneath his skin, as if something alive was wriggling in his veins.

Xiaoling knelt down and pushed the last stabilizer into his arm. Just as the clear liquid in the syringe was finished, he suddenly grabbed her wrist and said, "The communication system... is experiencing interference."

Xiaoling didn't speak, but instead reached out and pressed her hand against his forehead. A light red bead of blood seeped from her palm and seeped into his skin.

Lin Che closed his eyes briefly, and a blue light exploded with a "boom," instantly turning the monitor screen on the ceiling into a cacophony of static.

Professor Gray huddled behind the console, his fingers flying across the secondary keypad.

He didn't even bother to straighten his glasses, which were askew, and kept muttering, "The parameters need to be adjusted, or it'll explode."

The Weaver suddenly turned his semi-transparent face, his pupils narrowing to slits. Before Gray could react, a beam of blue light struck, sending him crashing into the wall and shattering half a pane of glass.

The ring structure of the time gate began to vibrate, and the blue light on its surface churned like boiling water.

The alarms on the main control panel were deafening. Su Wanqing stared at the fluctuating numbers on the screen, and the Watcher's notification came through her headset: "Energy criticality, we recommend terminating your operations."

She ignored it and gritted her teeth to continue typing commands. Her nosebleed dripped onto the console, forming a small red dot.

Xiao Ran's gun was empty. He threw the gun to the ground and grabbed a wrench from the side, smashing it at the guards who rushed at him.

Three guards surrounded him, and metal gauntlets slammed into his back, the dull thuds and the sound of bones dislocating echoing through the air.

Xiaoling threw the medical kit on the ground, pulled out two syringes containing the antidote, ducked to avoid an energy wave, and then plunged the syringe into the neck of the guard on the left.

The guard suddenly froze, clutching his own throat and kneeling down. The guard on the right glanced at his companion, and Xiao Ran took the opportunity to smash his knee with a wrench.

Lin Che stood up unsteadily and placed his hands on the main control panel.

A blue light emanated from under his fingernails, making him look like a luminous being.

"I need energy." He turned to look at Su Wanqing, his eyes a deep, clear blue.

Su Wanqing bit her lip, and a beam of blue light from the jade bracelet split off and wrapped around Lin Che's wrist.

A pale purple arc of electricity rose between the two, the console screen flickered wildly, and the data streams intertwined like two snakes—one side was the Watcher's correction code, and the other was the Weaver's forced-start program.

The weaver rushed over, creating a gust of wind. Su Wanqing was thrown against the wall, and out of the corner of her eye, she saw a dark figure blocking her way.

The Time Observer's outline became clearer, its translucent body twisting into a barrier. The Weaver's attack struck it, scattering tiny specks of light.

"You've broken the rules!" the Weaver roared. The Observer's voice echoed, "You crossed the line first."

Suddenly, the time portal emitted a piercing metallic scraping sound. Several cracks appeared in the ring structure, and blue light hissed out, burning the skin.

Gray used the wall for support to get up, his sleeve was torn, and blood was flowing down his arm.

He lunged at the backup console, his fingers flying across the keyboard: "This should..." The console screen flickered, and the coordinates on the other side of the time portal began to shift, slowly moving from "Weaver's Homeworld" to "Unknown Spacetime Point".

"No!" The Weaver's voice was choked with sobs. He flung aside the Observer and rushed toward the main control panel, stepping over the shards scattered on the ground.

Su Wanqing looked up and saw that the steel bars on the ceiling were falling down continuously, and a crack appeared in the ground, revealing the dark pipes below.

Xiao Ran rushed over and grabbed Xiao Ling, shouting, "Retreat! Retreat quickly! This place is going to collapse!" Xiao Ling struggled but couldn't break free, and he dragged her towards the door.

The final moment came quickly. No sooner had Su Wanqing finished inputting her command than the Watcher's notification exploded in her ears: "Insufficient energy, new parameters cannot be stabilized."

Lin Che suddenly grabbed her hand, and the blue light in his palm burned her painfully.

“I’ll be the one to keep things stable,” he said, his voice sounding as if it were coming from a great distance.

Xiao Ling screamed and tried to rush over, but Xiao Ran held her back tightly, scratching several bloody marks on his arm with her fingernails.

Lin Che's body began to become transparent, and the blue light flowing inside could be seen.

He looked at Xiaoling, his lips moved, and he said, "That day at the water plant... you were the anchor point."

He pulled a data chip out of his pocket, intending to hand it over, but his hand scattered into particles of light in mid-air.

Xiao Ling cried and struggled forward, but Xiao Ran held her even tighter.

The Weaver stood in front of the control console, his hands tucked into the control core. His initially angry face gradually calmed down, and he looked up at Lin Che: "So... this is the bridge."

His hands stopped struggling and instead guided the energy along with Lin Che's blue light.

The three forces collided at the center of the time portal, and the air crackled with the sound of electric arcs.

The moment the countdown reached zero, the time portal exploded open with a "boom." The blinding light was so intense that people couldn't open their eyes, and when they could see clearly again, a blurry image was projected in the center of the portal.

A beam of light shone out from the door, projecting a holographic image onto the floor—a middle-aged man with light blue eyes and fine blue lines on his skin.

"Greetings, guardians of Earth." His voice crackled with static. "We are... the future."

As soon as the middle-aged man in the holographic projection finished speaking, a "crack" sound came from the metal floor.

The Weaver's translucent body trembled violently, and his once-shining skin cracked open: "Tampered with the coordinates! You actually changed the parameters!" He turned and lunged at Gray, who was huddled behind the control panel, his glasses shattered into a spiderweb pattern. "Did you change them? Tell me!"

Gray was lifted up by the neck, his feet off the ground: "No... the time portal turned on its own." He coughed twice, blood splattering on the Weaver's wrist, "The energy flow was being pulled by something, even I couldn't control it."

Adrian's projection flickered, and the blue light became more stable: "First Weaver, the time portal you activated originally carried the 'anchor' of Earth's civilization. The genetic imprint left by the pioneers who left three million years ago keeps the portal connected to the future of this planet."

He raised his hand, and the right hand in the projection pressed lightly against his chest. "It took our civilization fifty years to fully understand the choice of our pioneers back then—they did not flee, but reserved the possibility for the integration of the two races."

Su Wanqing wiped away the blood from her nose; the jade bracelet on her wrist felt hot. She stared at Adrian's blue eyes, the color almost identical to the light in Lin Che's mutated eyes: "What are you doing here?"

“End this crisis,” Adrian said. “The energy of this door is out of control now. It will tear apart all the underground facilities, triggering a chain reaction that will swallow half the city up by the time turbulence.”

His projection turned to Lin Che, "And this young man—Lin Che, his gene fusion is the only anchor point that can stabilize the gate."

Xiao Ling knelt beside Lin Che, holding his hand. Lin Che's skin had become translucent, and the blue light in his veins could be seen like a candle flame about to burn out: "He can't hold on any longer. When I used energy just now, I felt his pulse, and it was beating very slowly."

“We have a way,” Adrian said. “Using future medical technology, combined with Xiaoling’s blood characteristics, we can temporarily maintain his vital signs. But we need your cooperation to close this door.”

Xiao Ran threw the wrench to the ground, the clanging of metal mingling with the sound of steel bars falling from above: "Why should we believe you? You say fifty years from now, who knows if it's just a trap set by the Weavers?"

The weaver suddenly released Gray. Gray fell to the ground, clutching his neck and coughing violently.

The Weaver turned to Adrian, his semi-transparent face close to the projection: "Historical records? In the history you're talking about, I'm the 'founder of hybridity'?"

“Yes.” Adrian nodded. “You led a group of Weavers to remain on Earth and established a united government with humanity. Your genetic sample is preserved in a museum, numbered 001.”

The Weaver took two steps back, knocking over the instrument rack beside him. Metal parts clattered to the ground. He stared at his hands, blue lines faintly visible beneath his translucent skin: "I thought... we would rebuild our home planet civilization."

“Our home planet was destroyed two thousand years ago.” Adrian’s voice softened. “The Pioneers knew this when they left, which is why they chose Earth as their new home. Your insistence back then actually saved both races from extinction.”

Su Wanqing squatted down, looking directly at Lin Che. Lin Che's eyes were already a grayish blue, as if veiled by a layer of mist: "Can you hear me? They say you are the anchor point."

Lin Che moved his lips, his voice sounding as if it came from the water: "Xiao Ling's blood... can save me."

He raised his arm, his fingertips touching Xiaoling's hand. "That day at the water plant, you carried me and ran, blood dripping onto my neck. I thought to myself then, if only it could always be like this..."

Xiaoling's tears fell onto the back of his hand: "What nonsense are you talking about? You can definitely pull through."

She rummaged through her medical kit and pulled out the last two stabilizers. Her hand trembled uncontrollably as she inserted the needle into Lin Che's arm.

Another crack appeared in the ground, revealing churning black liquid underneath.

Xiao Ran tugged at Su Wanqing's sleeve: "The facilities won't last ten minutes. We either trust his method or run now—but Lin Che definitely can't stay."

“Running won’t help.” Lu Zhao’s voice boomed from the earpiece, crackling with static. “I just connected to the underground surveillance. The collapse has spread to level B3. The main facility you’re in is the center point; all the routes outward have collapsed.”

Adrian's projection suddenly flickered, with snowflakes appearing at the edges: "The energy backlash from the time portal is beginning to affect transmission. I need you to make a decision within three minutes—if you agree, I will synchronize future medical procedures to Xiaoling's terminal; if you disagree, this portal will drag you and the entire underground facility into the temporal turbulence."

Su Wanqing looked at Xiao Ran. Xiao Ran touched the signal flare in his pocket, then released it: "I'll trust you this once. But if you dare to play us..."

“I understand,” Adrian said.

Xiao Ling's terminal beeped, and a string of green code popped up on the screen.

She wiped her face and handed the terminal to Su Wanqing: "It's a medical program, and it matches the blood sample data I studied before."

The Weaver suddenly walked to the portal of time. His body was no longer transparent; the blue veins were as clear as blood vessels: "I want to see Earth fifty years from now."

He raised his hand and pressed it against the door, a burst of blue light enveloping him. "If what you're saying is true..."

The alarm suddenly escalated into a piercing waile. A steel bar in the ceiling snapped with a "crack" and fell half a step away from Su Wanqing.

Lin Che's hand slipped from Xiao Ling's hand, and the blue light went completely dark.

"Lin Che!" Xiao Ling rushed over and pressed her face against his chest.

Adrian's projection began to blur: "The medical procedure needs to be initiated immediately. Bell, mix the stabilizer with your blood and inject it into his heart."

Su Wanqing grabbed Xiaoling's hand: "Listen to him."

Xiaoling bit her lip, drew her own blood with a syringe, and mixed it into the stabilizer.

When the needle pierced Lin Che's left chest, he suddenly opened his eyes, and a light flickered in his blue eyes.

The blue light from the time gate began to shrink, changing from a ring to a single point of light.

Adrian's projection said something at the end, but it was drowned out by the alarm.

Su Wanqing only saw the shape of his mouth—"Good luck to you."

The ground shook violently, and Su Wanqing fell onto Xiao Ran. By the time she got up, the time portal had vanished, leaving only the charred remains of the control panel.

The Weaver stood still, her body no longer translucent, the blue patterns under her skin exactly the same as Adrian's.

Lin Che coughed twice and grabbed Xiao Ling's wrist: "I think I... can see fifty years in the future."

Another piece of cement fell from the ceiling, landing right at their feet. Xiao Ran grabbed Su Wanqing and ran towards the door: "Let's get out of here first!"

Xiao Ling carried Lin Che on her back and ran after them. Lu Zhao's voice boomed from the earpiece: "The backup escape route is ten meters to your left rear! Hurry!"

The weaver stood still. He touched his face; the blue veins felt hot against his fingertips.

More violent explosions came from afar, and the facilities began to tilt.

As Su Wanqing ran past the Weaver, he suddenly said, "Tell Adrian fifty years from now..." He smiled and said, "Tell him that the first Weaver said that this choice... was worthwhile."
