Chapter 278 Time Gate Crisis

Su Wanqing was awakened by a stinging sensation. The back of her head hit the metal floor, making a loud buzzing sound.

She squinted and looked up. Above her head hung a huge ring structure, with blue light swirling around inside it like a living thing, creating a vortex.

Xiao Ran lay down next to her, his tactical vest torn, revealing bloodstains on his exposed skin.

"Awake?" Xiao Ran rolled over and picked up his tactical knife. The scabbard was cracked, and the blade was covered in charred material. "The jade bracelet's light cocoon is broken, and most of the equipment is destroyed."

He shook the empty magazine. "Only three bullets left."

Su Wanqing touched her wrist. The jade bracelet was still warm, but softer than usual, like a piece of jade that had been squeezed for a long time.

She struggled to sit up and finally saw her surroundings clearly—there was a control console at the edge of the platform, people in white coats were running back and forth, and the monitoring screen was full of jumping code.

Gray stood in front of the central control console, his back to them, his shoulders moving as if he were smiling.

“The jade artifact holder.” Gray turned his head, his glasses reflecting a blue light. “Your system’s teleportation function is stronger than we expected.”

He raised his hand and tapped the control panel. "But it's okay, it saves us the trouble of going to catch you again."

Su Wanqing pressed her throbbing temples: "A time portal?"

“Smart.” Gray pointed to the ring above his head. “We were forced to leave Earth three million years ago, and now we’re going home.”

He pressed a button, and the ring structure spun faster. "Fifteen minutes to go, the returnees will be here soon."

The alarm suddenly went off. The sound of metal clanging came from the east entrance, mixed with the low growls of the mutants.

Su Wanqing looked at the monitor screen—Lin Che stood at the front, his eyes shining blue, followed by seven or eight mutants, some of whom still had scales on their faces, and were using their arms to push aside the guards.

"Stop them!" Gray yelled at his men, knocking over a coffee cup as he turned, the brown liquid spreading across the control panel. "A bunch of insane mutants, what can they possibly do?"

Xiao Ran tugged at Su Wanqing's sleeve: "An opportunity." He crouched down and ran towards the nearest control panel, stabbing his tactical knife into the circuit board, "to interfere with their energy transmission."

Su Wanqing followed and moved towards the main control area, her heels hitting the metal plate with a "tap-tap" sound.

The commotion on Lin Che's side grew even bigger. A mutant was struck by a stun gun, swayed, and collapsed.

Little Bell emerged from the crowd and plunged a syringe into its neck.

The blue scales began to fade, and the mutant uttered a muffled "family" from its throat.

Su Wanqing saw Xiaoling look up and shout something at her, her mouth forming the words "backup system".

She looked in the direction Xiaoling was pointing and saw a secondary control panel below the ring structure, with a red light flashing.

Just as Su Wanqing was about to run over, Gray pressed the emergency button. A blue light barrier rose up with a "hum," covering the main control area.

Gray said into the communicator, "Initiate the weaver protocol."

Outside the barrier, Lin Che's mutants continued their charge. Xiao Ran's knife was stuck in the control panel. He looked up and shouted, "Wan Qing!"

Su Wanqing touched the jade bracelet, but this time it wasn't warm; it was scalding hot.

The jade bracelet has raised patterns on its surface, exactly the same as the brick patterns on the wall.

"They're here," Xiao Ran suddenly said.

Su Wanqing followed his gaze. Something was moving in the shadows beneath the ring-shaped structure.

It wasn't human; it was a translucent blue creature with skin that glowed with a blue light resembling veins, and its head was pointed like a streamlined arrow.

It stood in the shadows, its voice like the scraping of metal: "Your resistance is quite interesting."

"Master Weaver." Lin Che's voice came from outside the barrier. He stood at the front, blue liquid seeping from his forehead. "I can feel you speaking in my mind."

The weaver ignored Lin Che and stared at Su Wanqing: "Is the jade artifact something of the observers?" It raised its hand and pointed to the jade bracelet, "They shouldn't interfere."

Su Wanqing took a step back, her back hitting the control panel. The jade bracelet suddenly became hot to the touch. She looked down and saw a line of small text appear on its surface: "Guardian bloodline detected during system startup. Authorization confirmed."

"What?" she blurted out.

The weaver's pupils contracted to slits: "You?"

The sound of shattering glass came from outside the barrier. Xiao Ling rushed in, holding a silver device—Lu Zhao's improved decoder.

Lin Che covered his head, blue liquid dripping down between his fingers: "It's suppressing me from controlling the mutants."

Su Wanqing's jade bracelet began to heat up. She felt a thread shoot out from her brain and connect to the jade bracelet.

A scene flashed before my eyes: an old woman stood in the laboratory, clutching a jade bracelet exactly like hers, and said, "Wanqing, remember, you are the guardian."

“Grandmother?” she whispered.

The Weaver suddenly moved. It raised its hand and swung it, throwing Xiao Ran against the wall with a muffled groan.

Xiaoling's decoder flew out and crashed into the barrier. Lin Che knelt on one knee, and the mutants began to roar and scratch at the ground with their claws.

The words on the jade bracelet transformed into a large stream of data, floating before Su Wanqing's eyes.

She heard a voice, as if coming from a very far place: "I am the Watcher, the seventh branch of the Time Observatory."

Your bloodline has been confirmed and authorized; the ultimate defense protocol is now activated.

"What agreement?" Su Wanqing shouted.

The Weaver's attack came again. Su Wanqing instinctively raised her hand, and the jade bracelet lit up with a green light, blocking the blue light.

She saw the Time Watcher standing in the corner, a dark figure shrouded in mist, speaking: "The agreement is based on balance, and you have broken it."

The Weaver turned to the Time Observer: "You cannot interfere!"

"I can," Su Wanqing said. She felt the threads in her mind growing thicker and thicker, the light cocoon of the jade bracelet enveloping her, Xiao Ran, Lin Che, and Xiao Ling.

The countdown on the monitor jumped to ten minutes, and the blue light in the ring structure became even brighter. "Tell me, which way is the time gate going to open?"

The Weaver's expression changed, and a human-like pain appeared on her translucent face: "Earth is our home. Three million years ago, the Observer chose your ancestors, and we were forced to leave. Now, we want to go home."

Su Wanqing's jade bracelet suddenly vibrated. A line of text popped up in the data stream: "Time gate parameter abnormal, forced activation detected."

She looked up at the circular structure, and could vaguely see stars within the blue vortex. "This isn't our current home, it's your home?"

“Yes,” the Weaver said, “but the Observers won’t allow it. They say humanity isn’t ready yet.”

The shadowy figure of the Time Observer shifted: "Your return plan involves assimilation and modification, violating the principle of coexistence."

Lin Che suddenly stood up, blue liquid dripping from his chin onto the ground, burning a small crater: "I can feel that there are many people waiting on the other side of the door."

He looked at Su Wanqing, "They don't want to kill us, they want to...teach us."

Xiaoling picked up the decoder and pressed the switch: "Lu Zhao said this can disrupt the coordinate calculation."

She looked at Su Wanqing, "Want to give it a try?"

Xiao Ran got up from the ground and wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth: "Wan Qing, what do you suggest we do?"

Su Wanqing's jade bracelet was still hot, and various options were churning in the data stream.

She heard the Watcher's voice: "The final choice is yours." The blue light from the ring structure was so bright that she couldn't open her eyes, and the countdown jumped to five minutes.
