Chapter 254 Emergency Stockpiling of Survival Supplies

The notification sound on the console disappeared, but the small red text "[Time Observer location success rate dropped to 30%]" remained on Su Wanqing's retina.

She glanced at the digital clock on the wall; it was 10:03 PM.

Inside the fortress, the purification device hummed steadily, and the newly breathed air had a slightly metallic sweetness.

"Di Di-"

Another alarm sounded, more urgent than the last. An orange warning box popped up: [System Warning: Level 2 Storm "Purple Mist" is expected to arrive in two hours.]

The storm will completely paralyze the city's logistics system and further disrupt social order.

A systemic shortage of supplies is expected across the city. Recommendation: Immediately establish strategic material reserves.

"Again?" Xiao Ran had just righted the chair that had fallen over when he heard the alarm.

"How long has it been since things calmed down?"

Lu Zhao was tidying up the medical pod. He stopped what he was doing, walked to the control panel, and pushed up his glasses: "A level two storm means that the scale of pollution and the speed of mutation will both escalate. The system says there's a shortage of supplies, which means we won't be able to buy anything soon."

Su Wanqing traced her finger across the map, marking several red dots.

“We must go out before the storm hits. Food, water, medicine, and some tools on Lu Zhao’s list.”

She looked up at Xiao Ran and Lin Che, "Xiao Ran, you know the way. Lin Che, your purification ability might come in handy outside."

She paused, then added, "Be careful."

Xiao Ran nodded and began checking his equipment. Lin Che looked at the scales on his arm that had faded considerably, said nothing, and followed suit to prepare.

The group quickly compiled a list. Lu Zhao circled the key medicines and medical equipment: "The hospital pharmacy should still have stock, but it may be in disarray. The underground warehouse of Wan Jia Fu Supermarket, which was converted from a civil defense project, has the largest stock."

“Xiaoling, Xiaoyu, and I will stay at the fortress,” Su Wanqing instructed. “Lu Zhao, you will be in charge of monitoring the system and their vital signs. Stay in contact at all times.”

The iron gate of the fortress slid open, and Xiao Ran and Lin Che disappeared into the darkness of the early morning.

Inside the fortress, Su Wanqing stared at the two green dots representing the two of them on the control panel screen, her fingers unconsciously tapping the table.

Xiaoling and Xiaoyu were arranged to rest on the soft cushions in the central area.

Lu Zhao was adjusting the communication equipment on the side.

Suddenly, Xiaoling, who was resting with her eyes closed, began to tremble violently. The red mole on her forehead, like a red-hot iron, burst forth with a dazzling light.

She suddenly opened her eyes, her pupils filled with a blur.

“I saw it…” Her voice changed, no longer the clear, crisp voice of a little girl, but low and hoarse, like many voices overlapping each other, “Three days… three days from now, at dusk, the Southwest Dam… purple lightning will split it open… the dam will collapse completely.”

Lu Zhao immediately grabbed the notebook on the table and started scribbling rapidly on the paper.

“Monsters in the water… thousands upon thousands… will flood the city like a tide.”

The little bell's voice echoed, sounding exceptionally clear in the quiet fortress.

Su Wanqing walked to her side and squatted down: "Is there any way to stop it?"

Xiaoling's light dimmed, she shook her head, her voice returned to normal but was weary: "That was an inevitable event, a fixed point in the timeline. We... we can only change our position and avoid the most dangerous area."

As soon as she finished speaking, Xiaoyu, who had been quiet all along, suddenly spoke up. Her voice wasn't loud, but everyone could hear it clearly: "The soldiers will leave before the dam breaks down. They... they've already abandoned this city."

Su Wanqing frowned. She immediately pulled up the system map and manually marked several major highways leading out of the city.

On the map, the lines representing traffic flow had changed from green to congested yellow, and some sections were even dark red. "Lu Zhao, what's the terrain like in that abandoned factory area in the north of the city?" she asked.

Lu Zhao pulled up a topographic map and zoomed in on the screen: "The terrain is very high, and it has its own independent water and electricity systems, although they are abandoned. If the dam collapses, it should be one of the safest places."

“If the prophecy is true,” Su Wanqing’s finger stopped at the location of the factory area, “we need to build a secondary base there within three days.”

By 10 a.m., the sky had completely darkened, with thick, lead-like clouds.

Purple lightning flickered in the depths of the clouds, without thunder, only a suppressed flash.

Xiao Ran drove an inconspicuous pickup truck at high speed through the empty streets.

“The supermarket’s warehouse manager was fairly easy to talk to,” Xiao Ran said as he drove. “We gave him two packs of cigarettes and he let us empty the warehouse of canned goods and compressed biscuits. He said that military vehicles have been heading out of the city one after another since last night.”

Lin Che sat in the passenger seat, looking out the window. They passed a government building, and several military trucks were driving out, forming a convoy.

The soldiers were fully armed and had serious expressions.

Xiao Ran parked the car at the street corner and picked up his binoculars: "They are escorting several high-ranking officials from the city."

His gaze settled on one of the trucks, which was covered with a tarpaulin, but one corner of it revealed a metal base and complex instruments.

“That device… is very similar to the time stabilizer that Lu Zhao drew.”

He put down his binoculars, picked up a small digital camera, and took several photos of the convoy.

"We need to hurry," Lin Che reminded him. The blue markings on his arm seemed to be reacting to the purple lightning in the air, and were glowing slightly.

The two quickly evacuated and headed to the central hospital. On their way back, they were stopped at an intersection.

A team of fully armed soldiers set up a temporary checkpoint.

"All vehicles, stop for inspection!" an officer shouted through a megaphone.

They saw a private car ahead being stopped, and the family of three inside were asked to get out.

A soldier swept a handheld device over them, the device emitting a piercing beep.

"Pollution test positive! Take them all away!"

The man tried to resist, but was immediately pinned to the ground by two soldiers.

His wife and children were pushed into a closed military truck while crying and screaming.

Xiao Ran immediately turned the steering wheel and veered into a side alley. "Let's take a detour."

His voice was deep.

By the time they finally circled back to the vicinity of the fortress, the second wave of the storm was already beginning to emerge.

Tiny purple particles, visible to the naked eye, float in the air, like glowing dust.

The roadside plants are twisting and growing at an eerie speed, with the edges of their leaves turning an unnatural purple.

The pickup truck rammed into the underground garage, and the fortress's metal doors slammed shut behind them.

At the safety gate, a white decontamination spray immediately activated, completely enveloping the two men and the supplies they were carrying.

Lu Zhao and the others inside breathed a sigh of relief when they saw them return. He began quickly taking stock of the supplies: "The food is enough to sustain the six of us for about forty-five days. The medicine can meet most basic medical needs." He paused, looking at the constantly changing environmental monitoring data on the screen, "But if the mutation continues to worsen, we'll need more specialized equipment."
